    Hi Jane,
    Your speech touched my heart!!
I want to share that I have been practicing gratitude since last one and half year. Since then my life has changed a lot, I feel I am happiest person I ever felt of myself. People around me also realizes it and says to me :). It give me power to practice more and more gratitude. I also felt that it took away all my resentments of my life, I had and made me free to fly with my dreams.
I also realized that only gratitude helps me to stay blessed and opens door for more blessings.

While I do agree with her about practicing gratitude and not dwelling on the negative, I think it is still important to understand the source of our trauma and then heal it with self love. So I don't think we should avoid the negative things that happened when done in a constructive environment.

As a side note I recently took a course in Pastoral Counseling and what you said about accentuating the positive and eliminating the negative as much as possible in counseling is right on target. People spend countless years in expensive and destructive counseling activities because the counselor keeps going over old hurts and pain instead of helping their patients to look for the positive things in their lives and give thanks. Again thanks for this great video, this is priceless and free information that anyone can benefit from immediately, if they really listen to your wise words and take action.

I am giving thanks for the birds again, they are wise, and I have noticed them above there many times recently, keeping watch, seeing sharply and showing us all the way of nonattachment.
I hear them singing on the breeze and I am meditating on what the birds are communicating
Maybe it is a simple bird nest call
But maybe it is actually a friend if listened to, passing on
The subtle jokes and comments advice that friends do.
    They are nonattached but they
Are also willing to provide insight
I am thankful that birds exist, what a great idea! I am thankful they see a very good spring to come

Totally agree I work with clients as a coach and we always start from a place of gratitude. Gratitude has been particularly a key element in my recent coping with my mothers dementia and then passing away. I cried, I grieved and I was and still am incredibly sad about her death. BUT my grief comes from a place of grace love and gratitude so is easier to handle and I have learnt many lessons from it.

Wow I was listening to this driving home and stopped at a gas station. When I was walking out an Alicia Keys song “girl on fire” came on and I thought about how grateful I am for that song because it has always reminded me of how much I love my daughter and how strong she is growing up and becoming.
Then I got back into my vehicle and restarted the sound on this video and the next thing the speaker said was that the gratitude could be for “someone’s art that inspires you”
I couldn’t wait to get home and write this. Talk about a sign. Wow. Absolutely love it!!!
Also this gratitude stuff is amazing I’ve been doing it every single day since last July and it has made a world of difference. My goal was to have a list of stuff I liked about myself when I had bad days. I’ve had a zillion great days and even the few bad days I find ways to be grateful for. “I’m grateful that I’m crying because it helps me appreciate the vast number of great days I have AND it lets me know that I have a wide range of emotions within me which is a good thing.”
I hope other people see this and start doing it!

P.S. A wise person once said all irritations are either a reflection of a part of ourselves that we don't like or something we are envious of..

To all those who project their negative associations towards the way this lady tells her story. Why dont you just lay that aside and listen open-minded/hearted to what she is trying to share.
The message itself is more important than they way it is given / how it is presented.
Why is it so important for you to vent/express your negative associations. I mean what do you get out of it? In what way is it constructive to anything or for anyone? Cant you see that (to some extent) it only tells something about yourselves... And not in a particulary flattering way.
What does the mirror tell you, about yourself? (when you project your negative associations towards and unto others) Only you yourself can know, because it´s your own projections. Meaning it has more to do with you, then it has with others. ;)
Instead of choosing to focus on the negative aspect of things, try to focus more on the positive aspects of things.
The more you do it/practise it, the more natural it becomes an automatic way for you to percieve the world.
See the possibilities instead of the limitations.
Some might argue that constructive criticism could help this lady give/present her message in a "better" way. And yes, while you would or could be be partly right. Ask yourselves, is that really so important?
Should she change the way she presentate things? Or should we change our way of receiving/percieving the message?
The content is more important than the package it comes in/with. Even though the package/presentation helps with getting the message delivered, it is still the content which is most important. Don´t you think so too?
A well-meaning greeting to you all, and a wish for a better tomorrow for all. Take care of each other. We need it, the world needs it.

If i where to answer my own question, about what people get out of projecting their negative associations onto/towards others. It would be, that they do it to boost their own ego, and to feel like they are more then those they belittle. But in reality we are all the same. We are all on the same journey in life, we are just at different places/junctions, and on different levels of understanding. Nothing more nothing less.
But its interesting that to som extent, it is as though, that we are grown up and raised to do it. (An ingrown habit) From the time when our own parents gave us those disapproving looks because we did something "wrong" and dident live up to their expectations. In that regard and out of habit, so do we also project the same disapproval onto others.
And as it is said in the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. People are in such a hurry to have a meaning about how other people ought to live their lives, while at the same time, they dont even know how to live their own lifes.
      Its a paradox :)

I am a Psychologist and really rate this speech. Yes, this lady is nervous. She is making some sweeping comments but I think she does a great job of conveying the gratitude message. People are dubious of positive psychology and gratitude but it is (together with Mindfulness) the future of psychology. I agree that we need to sometimes look back on the past and make sense of it. It makes us who we are, we can't ignore it...but gratitude is something that will makes us feel better. Isn't that what we all want? Life is short.

***** I have recently begun to focus my spiritual practice on both mindfulness and gratitude. Would you be willing to share any resources (books, meditations, etc) that you use in your own practice? I am looking for practices, beyond the use of a gratitude journal, that actually activate the feeling (vibration) of gratitude; for example mantras, nature videos, but of course not limited to that. Of course, anything you share is welcomed.
      Thanks.
