Thank you very much for this video! I did this 2 weeks ago and it worked perfectly for me...laptop and fan are both working really well. Saved me the $200 the guy at the repair shop wanted. But some tips to add to this video: - Check the exact model of your computer and go to your laptop brand's website to download the user manual for your exact model. I did this and they provide a step to step guide on how to open your laptop - every laptop is different! My laptop had 2 hidden screws I wouldn't have found if I didn't read the manual. - Be careful your hands don't carry any static electricity (walking on a carpet or rubbing against felt can cause this). Make sure you touch an uncovered piece of metal before opening the laptop to discharge it - Don't spin your fan too fast while testing it. Blow on it lightly with your own breath if you need to but using a blow dryer like that is dangerous
I would not recommend using a powerful blow dryer like the one on the video. Exceeding the rotation speed for the specifications of the fan might actually damage it, as it was not designed to spin so fast. I recommend stopping the fan from moving with your finger when air (vacuum cleaner, compressed air, etc) is used to remove the dust around it. I also recommend using a medium or small brush to wipe the dust off more easily. Other than that, it's a good video for those who want to know how to clean a laptop fan.
Thanks for this awesome guide.... It works for me... :D For those who asked whether oil do the job.. The answer is "not really".....Applying a small amount of cooking oil wont work as effective as grease.... Cooking oil seems lubricating, yes. but it does not specialize and use as a lubricant substance. Take note that your fan might shoots temperature as high as 90-110 degree (crucial state).... This will eventually cause the oil you apply to be evaporated...Hence no more lubricant to lubricate the rotary motion inside the fan. As a result a squeking sound or buzzing sound will come once again. Hence, a high temperature grease would be an outstanding option for every case. To be exact i use bearing grease where it can withstand high friction temperature. P/S: Justification made based on my experience. Good Luck Guys.
Sheesh.. DO NOT use grease for very small machine parts. Use grease only for big, beefy gears. Grease is too viscous and dust PLUS grease makes it cake over time. Use transmission fluid or machine oil -- the same one they use for sewing machines.
I had the same problem, exclusively with the GPU fan. Initially, I took it to a repair shop and he barely looked at the GPU fan before suggesting I need to change BOTH fans. I didn't trust him so I went to another shop, who suggested that he would clean the laptop which should fix the problem. So I paid the second shop but the problem was still here. This video was the actual solution. Now I am seriously starting to doubt these "professionals". Cheers.
TYVM! I was prepared to buy a new laptop, but after seeing this video, i've managed to stop the montruos continuously sound the fan was making. Vaseline to the rescue! :D
DUDE THIS FUCKING HELPED ME, FAN WAS NOT MOVING A BIT, LAPTOP WAS SHUTTING DOWN IN SECONDS. TURNS OUT HAD TO JUST LUBRICATE IT A BIT. a blow with my mouth moved it like a gyroscope. THANKS A MILLION
Very useful post. I used two fingers against the hub connected to the blades and it came apart very nicely. I tried it with my properly running fans and it was far harder. I make a guess the fans that are binding have tighter and newer clearances.
Hey , my acer fan is not makin noise at all, is it broken or what? It keeps shuttin down suddenly after get overheated, how do I fix this n kno if the fan is broken or just jammed?
Really? My GPU fan of Helios 300 stopped ( work a ,05 sec every 10 seconds and stops ) I try everything but not this method and i cant find the fan in amazon. My ends 17k13 all i find is 17k14 :(
@@zvezdelinpetrov630 Let me give you an update then. I didn't have greace so I put a weird spray on it that's supposed to have the same effect. It worked perfectly for 8 hours, then it started to get worse. At some point it was so bad that the fan destroyed itself, leaving half of it's blades flying around in my laptop. I ordered a new fan but it was hard to find one. I'm never going for laptops again. I ordered a PC. Only been having fan problems with every laptop.
Nickw00t Well, my fan is with metal blades and It can’t open. I will order new one but shipping will be 5-7 weeks because of Corona... Yeah, desktops are always better. Thanks for the info :)
There's resistance if I pull the blades. They'll break if I try to force it. Suggestions? The other end to access the bearing (beneath sticker) has a metal cap that doesn't just pop off so I'm not sure how else to get lubricant in there.
@@EpicBunty Not true. Consulted actual technician and it requires special tool to deal with the metal cap. It can only be further disassembled if I choose to apply force and break it, rendering it useless. *edit: I've encountered some laptop fans that do simply "pull" apart, but that is not the case for all of them.

Good advice thanks! I didn't know that a laptop fan was serviceable. Repaired my Eebox B1502 fan with your technique and a little dab of lithium grease (I usually use this on plastic gears on Laserdisc players and so on), worked like a charm! Cheers!

Thanks for this video. Thanks to it, I know how to remove the fan of the laptop cpu cooling fan. Berore I didn't know that just pulling out the propeller could remove the propeller. My laptop cpu fan is not working. after removing the propeller, dusting it off, adding oil, my fan is back up.
I couldn't take off the spinning part of the fan. I even used force but I couldn't. And this way I can't clean the center neither lubricate it. My fan is: Sunon Maglev MF60090V1-C210-G99. Can you help me plz?

Hello, thanks for the video. I have a HP laptop and the fan hasn't been working lately; and during the startup, there was a message saying that the fan isn't working properly. And this is true, because the fan hasn't been turning on for a while. So I checked the fan by opening up the laptop and system board to get to the fan. There seems nothing wrong with the fan (except a minor scratch / crack in the plastic cover of the fan), and the fan spins well when I blow air to it... Do you think the problem is with the fan itself, and I need to replace the fan? Thanks
Allright, I think I have the same type of fan in my GE62 2QF MSI laptop. For the second time now a fan is failing for some reason. When the RPM increases it starts to play really loud rattling noise and vibrate. It does not happen all the time (yet), it sometimes stops when I tilt the laptop, starts again when I move it or tilt again, evntually (from experience) it will start to rattle as soon as I turn the laptop on. The thing is, MSI does not provide info on what failed exactly. Do you have any idea? I'd say the bearing, but then again it would just make the sound all the time from the moment it started. It looks more like the ribs of the fan brush over something.
You are in a rough spot friend, i have the GE72 and have the same problem. I have to take mine to a repair shop to get this crap taken care of. Buyer beware of MSI
Thank you so much I was trying so hard to pull apart and it wouldn't move, almost broke the board. Mine was so stuck I had to wedge small pliers under, because it was FULL of fine dust in the hub...
[GOOD TIP] For better cleaning the radiator fins where dust piled at the fanning end you have to use soapy water dipped tooth brush and carefully clean those fin holes after vacuuming and removing big bust piles on the fins. Then use moist brushing second third times to remove the soapy moisture out fins with careful brushing, you will see a lot of dirt on the brush. Because micro dust particles settled on the fin surfaces and soapy water brushing after vacuuming will do 2nd stage better cleaning of fins so next time the dust wont settle inside the fins so frequently.
They make Turbine oil which I have used for decades repairing all kinds of fans. Bottle has a pull out tube to get into oil felt cups on most fans. I think in your example white lithium grease would work better than car grease. (less viscous)
Hi , my fan spins fine , but it has a pretty low buzzing noise, i think its dust, when i clean it should i put grease? Its 1 year old i dont want to put grease and end up making it spin more than what is it made for.
