To add to this awesome video, Always hold the fan blades when blowing air, when it spins fast built up charge can burn the circuit for speed control. I ended up with a CPU fan always running 100%. Also, oil will last a year or two but if you want longer go for Lithium Calcium grease. finally if the noisy fan has bearings instead of a sleeve, there is not much you can do about except replacing the bearing, most PC fans use 693-zz. avoid cheap Chinese bearings as they are noisy brand new!!!!

I woke up this morning to my laptop making a grinding noise when I power it on. I noticed one of the fans wasn't spinning and seem to be sticking when I try to spin it. It's still under warranty, but due to covid Acer wouldn't let me drop it off anywhere. So would have had to ship it somewhere and been without it for a few weeks maybe.

I would also like to thank you for this very helpful video! Your suggestions helped me fix a noisy fan, which seemed to be getting worse every month. I had assumed I would need to replace it, especially after opening up my laptop and realizing the fan is embedded in one of those metal cases like the one you show in the very last minute of the video. But after cutting off the plastic chips and adding some oil to lubricate the shaft, closing and taping the case, and cleaning up the dust accumulated onto the motherboard heat sink it is now as silent as it was on day one. ¡Gracias! :)

Hi It's Birth Repaired. I just tried this now, thanks. it worked. I got to revive the PC 12v .27A but I discovered something, you can take the blade off by just carefully removing the locking plastic washer (it may be metal on some branded ones) after you've pull that rubber cover covered by the sticker (I used the most powerful PVA glue to stick both the cao and sticks back, I hope it works- I'll find out after 25 minutes). You can use a good thin tweezer (I used a Victoronix Swiff Knife's trimmer to do it but it warped it a bit but your can hammer it lightly to make it as close to straight as possible) to pull out that locking thing or washer, that locks the axel of the fan blade in place. I used 99.9 isopropyl alcohol to clean the shaft hole (w/ kitchen tissue and paper clip but I think a wipe you buy without any fragrance would be more durable to wipe it with if no fragrance exists) and the magnet on the fan blades.
I then tested it with a 9v battery directly connected it to two protruding wire (careful not to cross them, put an insulator between them).
It took a little less than an hour the first try (but most likely it'll just take 15 minutes on the 2nd or so when another fan needed reviving), about the same amount of time, you'd spend to buy (and take risk w/ Covid though) to go the mall, park and buy and less time to wait for the order ,online:-)
It's nice it's working now, I can use it again (on our CoolerMaster PC so it still has original parts, though I'm mostly a Mac user) and it just needed cleaning and it's not the windings of the motor or any sub-components like the capacitor or resistor. I think I can apply this with the iMac's fan and save $US50 and a month of waiting for it to arrive
    :-)
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

One other thing: Spinning fans real fast while plugged in will create inducted voltage back into the control circuit. If you spin it way too fast or too much you can burn it out. The motor is a magnet so spinning it creates current. The needle is good for stopping that, too.

[GOOD TIP] 14:30 for better cleaning these fins you have to use soapy water dipped tooth brush and carefully clean those fin holes after vacuuming and removing big bust piles on the fins. Then use moist brushing second third times to remove the soapy moisture out fins with careful brushing, you will see a lot of dirt on the brush. Because micro dust particles settled on the fin surfaces and soapy water brushing after vacuuming will do 2nd stage better cleaning of fins so next time the dust wont settle inside the fins so frequently.

Lithium Grease is better then motor oil, as it drys out a lot less over time.
I noticed motor oil in an unsealed and dusty enviorment is just asking for you to take that fan apart, while grease will at least push it off to the side until it gets too much, but will increase the time between service.

For long-lasting lubrification, use lithium grease (good for bronze bushing. Use light synthetic oil for ball bearing) you can also use light oil for bushing. 5/W30 synthetic motor oil work well. Be careful, if you use compressed air for cleaning. High-speed rotation of the fan will generate voltage that can be harmful to the electronic circuitry of your fan and computer. Disconnect the fan from the motherboard or lock the rotor (fan blade part) with a toothpick before blowing compressed air to be absolutely sure that you don't break anything.
