Great instructional video. Thank you. One thing I do when removing the various size screws from a laptop is to use some wide masking tape sticky side up to hold the screws. I create a mini map of the the screw locations on the tape (screw from top left comer, to top left corner of masking tape etc). I also do this for the internal crews that hold the main board and other components in position.

This video came right on time! My Toshiba laptop has had the loud fan problem for months, and now it's overheating. I told my Dad, who used to service laptops, and he told me to replace the fan. I was a little freaked out at the idea, so to buy time, I started using my husband's newer Toshiba laptop. We've only had it since Christmas, and yes, it decided to start making THE SAME NOISE. I was in a mild state of panic until I checked my e-mail the other day and saw this video in my RUclips digest. I've watched your handy tips and now feel ready to try disassembling my machine. (And I'm going to vacuum my husband's laptop vents and stall the job there if I can.) As a side note, thank you for describing the type of screwdriver you use. We are still building up our tool inventory and haven't yet bought one that works for tiny screws. I will use your advice and get a good one. Especially since we now realize fan vent problems go along with owning Toshiba laptops. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for being so detailed and easy to understand.

I was always looking for how to be careful with the connectors, coz the last time I took apart my toshiba A660, I broke the keyboard connector without knowing how it works. so this time I wanted to get in there not before knowing how to handle those as there a bunch of those and you simply nailed it for me ! Great work chief... thanks once again ! :)

All quiet now and laptop stopped shutting down intermittently due to over heating. I have an old HP Pavilion with very loud cycling fan. I turned it off and used my large shop vac with needle tip with suction applied to the fan port grate and other cooling ports. Large dust particles came out. I downloaded Speccy and Speedfan freeware. I launched MS Essentials and Spybot full scans to load the CPU to 100%. I watched temperature rises and the fan came on progressively to cool the CPU and Cores to within operating specs. I will elevate the rear of the laptop about 1/4" to ensure better flow characteristics. Your video will help if things ever get worse. Thanks!

They have some of the screws hidden; two are under two foot pads and one was under a sticker that looked like a plastic piece built into the chassis. You were right in that they need to make it hard/impossible so we purchase another one. Well, not me. My new fan will be here Tuesday. $12 off Amazon. Also, if you want to leave the business, you have a future in RUclips ASMR community.

Very nice teardown/repair video. At work I order the EliteBook series of laptops and the difference between the consumer and enterprise laptops are so different. With the Elitebook series, the bottom panel comes off and you have access to the fan, SSD/HDD, RAM and everything else without having to tear into the laptop like the consumer versions.

Isn't gonna be a good idea also to change the thermal paste on CPU and GPU?

My Sony VAIO had the same problem and after a nice cleaned up it really fixed the humming noise; however, it comes back at times particularly when one is working with multiple applications. I'll try upgrading my old hard drive for an SSD, a Micro Center tech recommended me that too.

I'd love you to take apart my Acer 5733 laptop, so designed, never to be taken apart., I have a noisy fan that I have to live with because to get to the fan, you are looking at a major strip down, just about every component has to come off to get to the motherboard, who ever designed it needed a brain transplant, apart from that though, its a good laptop. I bought one of those fans that the laptop seats on to keep the temperature down and it seems to work.I know that's only a temporary solution, but it never overheats to the point that it shuts down, I done all the usual fixes like the can of air, with the same results, noisy fan going up and down every 2 or 3 minutes. I not too fussed, as the laptop does all I need it to, so I'm happy. Good video btw.

Thank you for making this video, it was very useful. But, it is true, HP made it difficult to get to the fan. But thank you.

I have this laptop for at least 5 months and at most 6 months and it suddenly vibrates now, I don't know if it was like that from the start and I am just being paranoid but what do you people recommend I should do? This laptop is very expensive and it's the first time I've ever had a laptop.
