I get so annoyed by TicTok particularly when it comes to beauty content. I remember the facial symmetry filter and seeing video after video where people were either bragging if they had facial symmetry or lamenting their lack of facial symmetry and how to fix it. As you said, creating a whole new insecurity for people to feel bad and use makeup or get a procedure to correct something nobody even thought about until the stupid facial symmetry filter test became a thing.
@@jvonderbrelje875 The ads are overwhelming agreed. I wouldn’t bother with it except I have a few people that I follow and try to just view their content while I’m there.
The worst are these natural make up looks that require 20 products you have to have. The other day I watched a YT vlog by a very popular and beautiful European influencer who did a super quick make up look with minimal products that she pulled from her make up bag and not from a new box gifted to her. When she was done she placed her face right up to the camera where her pores were clearly visible and said "gorgeous". I loved that. I wish there was more of that real confidence on social media.
Oooo would you share the video or her name? I hate the sensation of too much makeup/foundation on my face. I'm constantly trying to find folks that are ok with my pores breathing.😅
Can I just say, as a non TT user, how happy I am that your content is existing and thriving here on RUclips. Too many influencers have completely transitioned to short form content and I'm just not here for it. Thank you for consistently putting out quality long form content here on the OG platform Kackie
Ah! No. We alllllllll absolutely turn to you!!! All day everyday. Sephora associates know nothing about customer service I’m sorry. They don’t. And it’s not even their fault. It’s absolutely Sephora itself. That said. (And believe me I WISH I HAD REALIZED THIS SOONER listen up kiddos!) aside from maybe the manager and maybeeeeee a few here and there-when you ask a question nowadays they answer with questions. Like what? I just asked you a question 🙃and then it’s like they basically make you do your own work which if I wanted to do that, I WOULDNT HAVE ASKED YOU and I wouldn’t have spent my precious gas and time going into the store... 🙂.
@@maggiemurphy4092the critical thinking in schools is only taught against targeted points. You’re not taught to think against school system, society’s way of working or even the lobbies that are destroying the next generations.
@@maggiemurphy4092 Yes and no. I think your average American K-12 English education (the only education system I can speak to) does provide the building blocks for media literacy. But especially with the rapidly changing media landscape, I think said education now only covers a fraction of the information kids need to be truly savvy. Filters and any other tech that uses generative AI is a whole new ballgame of deception, and it’s getting harder and harder to recognize it from real life. It’s only going to get more convincing, and I genuinely don’t know how to best prepare kids for that.
I'm so old I remember when Sephora opened, long before beauty insider. It felt like a luxury to shop there and the perks were amazing. Now it just feels like a trend factory for teenagers with no real perks or incentives anymore. I joke that I would rather shop at a department store beauty counter with pushy salespeople for a more quality experience.
So true. I buy from Credo if I want a one stop shop because they have way better rewards. If I want something that Credo doesn’t carry, I’ll order direct from the brand. Sephora has no place in my life anymore.
And, department stores lack that special claustrophobic feeling of Sephora, with children running around and whining at their moms to buy shit they don’t need.
these days ill just order straight from the brands website if I want something- more times than not you'll be able to get 10-15% off and maybe a free gift/better samples
I had very noticeable hip dips when I was younger and although there was no name for them I hated them. From looking at magazine models I thought I was not supposed to have them. None of the clothes I tried on were flattering because they were made without curves. That was the 80s, 90s and 00s. Nothing was flattering and until City Chic appeared there was nothing that could even cater to my natural pear shape. Even when I was having a nervous breakdown and dropped 2 sizes I was still pear shaped. Things were not actually better then. They were just horrible in a different way.
❤🎉😂 I feel the exact same way! I don't have any favorites saved to my Sephora and Ulta accounts. Whenever I want to buy something next, I also want it to be a treat yo self moment. I'm looking forward towards going to my mall to the department stores.
As a mental health therapist, I want to say a huge THANK YOU for speaking out about the dangers of short form content on our mental well-being. I come to this channel for my escape and love the opinions, and most of all the honesty about all opinions being just that… opinions. Thank you for keeping us all sane!
right?!?!?! it has destroyed the self esteem of some of my friends who just can't get past the fact that they are never going to be famous 20 year old influencers (because in reality they're 40 years old and can't get past the fact that aging is part of life, so instead they chase the dragon of getting likes from a handful of old perverts they've never met before....sigh.) It's very sad to watch. I used to really hate seeing the mundane photos of what people cooked for dinner every day, but I wish I could have that back instead of 15 almost identical pictures of 38 year olds with butterflies floating around their heads and doing duckface.
It has been such a heartbreaking to see someone in their middle aged/elderly looking at their own youth picture and saying "I wasn't actually bad looking at all", knowing that they thought so back then. I've seen it, and it is so wrong.
The worst thing is, I read these kids comparing the nicotine dosages they get with different brands. And they want the most nicotine possible! That is the thing that is more addictive in your brain than heroin. And I know they're also getting as much caffeine as possible from energy drinks and strong coffees. They're all going to be busting blood vessels before they're 35, with the constricted circulation and high blood pressure. I can only surmise that Big Capitalism has decided it is way too costly to let lots of people live to an old age. None of these things are allowed to happen, unless the wealthy and powerful decide that's what they want to happen to us. Why else the expensive and hard to access health care? Why else all the guns? Why else all the stress of working and trying to survive in our society? They want it that way, and the hell with all of us.
This is a small thing, but I really love that you DIDN’T edit out the influencer’s handles/usernames. It holds them accountable. I’m tired of people scratching out the usernames whenever they critique an influencer - that influencer willingly has a public account, where they willingly post content for anyone to see. Having your username reposted, particularly if you’re being criticised, is part of the game. I do 100% agree with scratching out usernames for private accounts - that is a protection of privacy, to some extent - but we’re not talking about private accounts here. We’re talking about the public accounts of influencers who are wreaking havoc on others.
on your last point, i’m 20 and the amount of insecurities that i didn’t know i was supposed to be insecure about until i went on instagram or tiktok… like i remember when i was like 14 and i found out what hip dips were and i looked it up, and all the search results were how to get rid of them!!!! oh my god it ruined me 😭 can’t imagine being younger than that. it still sticks w me to this day.
Yea, fuck that shit. At 51, I’m still letting go of the insecurities I grew up with…so just know, as you age 1) it gets better and 2) you will most likely look back at pictures of yourself at ages 20 to whatever, and think , “damn! I wasted time and had angst over looking that great?! What was I thinking?!”
I was in my late 30s before hearing that expression. They just come up with new words for labeling our bodies. Only YOU have the power to decide how to feel and talk about your body. Many women's bodies have those curves bc of how our bones and pelvises are 'designed.' Nourish your body with food, water, and exercise and enjoy your life. Screw these people making money off making you feel insecure. Signed, your 42 year old auntie
Trust your instincts. You were right. You’re not supposed to be insecure about the range of things people fixate on, on social media. Reality is not as shallow as the artificial worlds of TT and Insta. Remember: you’re a human being, not a fad. Wishing you the very best.
For me the frustration is the unending search for the Holy Grail (in an ever-increasing number of increasingly contrived categories) and the cold hard reality that no one in the beauty industry wants the Crusades to end.
I curbed my beauty purchases a whole lot when I realized I was chasing the next best product, rather than enjoying the perfectly fine products I already have. If I enjoy the blushes, mascara, etc that I have, why am I spending so much money on products that are supposedly better?
This is actually a great reality check bc I realize that I do end up "chasing" foundations that I see on TikTok bc they look SO blurring but end up looking crusty IRL, so I end up purchasing just a neverending parade of decent but not miraculous foundations. I wouldn't call it "bullying" but the fact that TikTok has a beauty filter built in that you CAN'T turn off kinda makes it an impossible place to research makeup.
I used to do that, now I've quit wearing foundation completely because I realized it always makes my skin look worse. Now I am looking for the holy grail lip color, LOL. Baby steps.
I love you and your content. Thank you for your authenticity. You are so unapologetically real. I’m so tired of the fake voices I see in most videos and I swear if I see one more video where the girl strums her fingernails on the product, I’m going to scream. I’m so glad you’re not that girl. So refreshing 💜💕❤️
Marketing skincare to kids annoys me to no end. They do not need actives! Their skin is already perfect (acne not included in this rant) and they can actually damage their skin. Although, it does seem like these companies are ensuring that they are creating future problems to then solve.
So I'm 55 and have never been on TikTok. I think short form is a complete waste of time and my generation, GenX, is unlikely to trust a beauty influencer that only takes 60 seconds to "review" a product. We are much more likely to spend money on the latest and greatest when we trust an influencer. There's absolutely no way I can gauge someone's integrity in just a few seconds. Love you, Kackie, for being more about being able to live with yourself. I hope your channel gets that viral moment just for being who you are. ❤
I'm 50 and only watch long form content, I cannot bear short videos, especially from the creators I enjoy. Imo the longer the better. I do NOT have TikTok l
I'm 40, so I grew up without internet until probably 18. AOL was all that we had. I've always picked items based on what I want, not because someone who is getting paid is telling me it's good. I do not use TT. I do love Utube for videos like this. They make me laugh! You made awesome points! I truly hope those under 30 were listening. ❤
I stepped away from consuming beauty content quite a while ago, but I’ve been having a great time with Kackie over the last few weeks! Thank you for bringing art math and critical thinking/commentary to the space!
I just recently bit the bullet and signed up for RUclips Premium and that ~$70 (which is, ironically (?), the upfront cost of an appointment with my shrink) and my anxiety was halved. Those commercials exhausted me, no matter if they were accurately targeted or not.
I'm sure it feels so peaceful to not have to deal with ads (seriously, I can feel my attention span shrinking with each one), but I think we have to look at the bigger issue of *why* we can't deal with watching (or, in my case, ignoring) something for 10, 20 or 30 seconds. What has social media done to our brains to cause us such turmoil if, god forbid, we have to wait in order to view what we want to view? I definitely don't blame you for ridding the ads from your life - I would do the same if I could justify spending the money each month. Instead, I've decided to build a habit of doing breathing exercises whenever an ad pops up. It's like a meditation bell (just not as soothing). Just putting this idea out there in case anyone else is looking for a way to grin and bear their free RUclips.
When you have (recently diagnosed) ADHD all your life, menopause has sent you spinning into a second adolescence, and none of the traditional meds are working, and you have vestibular vertigo with exponential anxiety? Please don’t tell me to breathe.
My company CEO has a cyber truck and someone put a picture of Oscar the Grouch on it. But also, re: venture capital and company buyouts…the dirty little secret is that lots of people launch companies with the goal of selling in five years.
Boomer here who loves your channel. Getting all my beauty info, advice, and body consciousness from massively airbrushed magazines with a very narrow range of models when I was a teenager was bad enough for my young and developing sense of self. But at least Seventeen magazine only came out once a month! I spent a couple hours with it and moved on to other more important and interesting activities. I truly cannot imagine what it must be like being a teenager and being constantly bombarded with all this garbage and believing it is real. (And grateful that I have no reason to have to download the TikTok app onto any device I own. I don’t trust the ownership of that app for a milisecond.)
This is my first video of yours that I've ever watched. I'm so happy to find an influencer who still has integrity, honesty, and puts real effort into their videos.
I'm equally curious and terrified just how much this virality and short form content phenomenon is going to influence kids on an emotional/social development level. Also, you are so right, about ALL THE THINGS, thanks for taking the time to educate and, if nothing else, validate our feelings on this!
People in the tech space don't let their kids use social media, especially monied people. Rich tech people send their kids to Montessori school and don't let them use phones, tablets etc. Food for thought.
Well-said! This makes me even more grateful that I never vibed with Twitter or Tiktok, and that I continue to enjoy my nuanced, long-form videos. You just can’t make well-informed decisions in 30 seconds or less. Give me 30 minutes or 30 days to formulate my opinions 😂❤
Did I just find my Soul Sister?! Seriously, how did I just find you!? I love you, you're amazing. You're my age, and you speak every word I truly feel and believe in too. ❤
I'm an Auntie, and I am absolutely going to direct my 13-year-old niece to this video! Probably my 19-year-old niece too, for that matter. Thanks so much for this; you've been on fire lately!
I work in a high school and I would say 10 years ago I was so inspired by how the girls seemed so much more body positive and comfortable in their skin than my generation did at their age (Gen X). Lately I've seen an insidious trend of insecurity and I'm sure TT is responsible.
I feel so fortunate to discover this channel. I feel like I can finally relate to a beauty influencer and have good down to earth advice instead of just having products pushed onto me
This video got me all fired up! I completely agree with everything you said here. As a mother of a 10-year-old girl, and even for my 14-year-old boy, I’m constantly worried about the subtle messages that they don’t even realize their brain is absorbing.
I feel like you, Robert Welsh and Alexandra Anele would get along so well. Informative educators, honest and passionate about helping ordinary people. Excellent content!
I had friends try to convince me to download it just so I can see the tik toks they share with each other that are funny. I said - nope sorry if I download it my already on life support attention span will completely disappear!!! No ragrets on not downloading tik Tok.
Do you girls watch you tube shorts ? Just asking .. or Instagram? I get on tik tok for specific product swatch search and then soon enough it’s toxic and I delete.
Fun theory? Patrick Ta may have a large supply of the duo component sitting around. ...pour some highlighter in that and call it a new idea. Like a product sitting on a retailer's shelf, space in a storage facility costs money. I need to rewatch this. What a fantastic video from one of my favorite people. 👏👏👏
I'm on some beauty/skincare groups on FB. From time to time I see people looking for help with their "enlarged"pores and 99% of time are accompanied by a photo of... you guessed it, perfectly normal looking pores. Some are even difficult to notice. And I'm always baffled at how much the filters are affecting the way we see ourselves/reality. And no, it's not just teenagers making those posts. It's also people well in their 20 which is always quite a surprise to me. I don't use tiktok and to be honest, I really wish it goes down at some point
This is why I love your content. Even on my 30s and growing up with youtube and being suckered into new products that will “CHANGE YOUR LIFE”, tik tok will be doing it too. It’s triggering for me, having body dysmorphia and low self esteem, it grabs my attention for the wrong reasons. It makes me sad cause I know the feeling of growing up feeling “ugly” and I walk around and see so many beautiful people.
Nearing the end of the video now, in your last segment, and I couldn't agree more. For a generation that seems to hail body positivity, they sure are bent on all looking the same. As a 46 year old woman, I miss seeing individual character in people's faces. I hate the influence social media is putting it to our children. And, maybe random and not hitting the most important aspect of this, but I really hate the way movies now point have actors that are all "beautiful" by social media standards and so injected and sculpted and they look fake. I purposefully watch 1970s and 1980s movies with my son and point out how much more rich a movie experience can be when all the characters have character in their face. Individual features.
I'm 69 and have a beautiful daughter of 40 who still looks like most young mums (she has two kids under five). She is fortunate to have lovely thick brows and lashes and wears very little (but high end) makeup. It disappoints me that so many young women are starting to look generic - pretty but generic. It's the huge fake eyelashes and pillow lips that they seem to strive for - they are already young and gorgeous and it just seems superfluous to me. That's not to say that there aren't some lovely, natural looking young lasses out there - they stand out!
Boy did I get an education today. I appreciate how dedicated you are to presenting your channel. I wouldn't waste my time or be influenced by Tik Tok but I know many are. Thank you for what you do Kackie!
I’m 30 now, but I was very up to date in the makeup community between 2011-2018. It was so fun! My daily art therapy to paint my face everyday. But after surviving 2 years of watching TikTok I’ve never felt so ugly, and I’m still trying to build up my self esteem. Now I feel like I’m relying on makeup to feel better about myself
I'm so sorry to hear that! You don't deserve that! I'm coming to realise that looking at myself that way, or for anyone, anywhere, to took at themselves like that, is literally the same as looking at puppies saying "you're so gd ugly!" which of course is utterly ridiculous and untrue. I'm about to become a mom, and the idea that my daughter would ever feel less than beautiful and absolutely precious is bonkers to me. How insane this world is! How insanely hard we are on ourselves! What weird animals, to gain self reflection and then use that awareness to put each other and ourselves down for things we have literally no control over. Like having hair in places where it _naturally grows_! I think you're precious, and I will bet my money that you're beautiful! I hope you find your way back to feeling that way. I'm working on it too, and what helps me is realising that I'm not perfect, and _I don't have to be_! Imperfections is what makes a lasting impression in art. ❤️
This is reminding me of one of the first videos of yours I ever watched. It felt fresh and truly analytical and I immediately subscribed. I can’t imagine growing up in an environment where filters exist. I remember when my daughter was younger and I felt I was competing against social media platforms to raise her and bring her back to reality. Critical thinking skills are an absolute basic when looking at anything online. We better brace ourselves for the product of the generations being fed this stuff.
You're on point. So on point that when you're someone over 40, you know how much this industry has changed for the worse. Anything that is "viral" I stay away. Also, It's hilarious how all influencers are "obsessed" with every viral crap that comes out. Consumers are stuck in a loop of overspending on these viral products that really suck because they are trusting these influencers. Back when you tube only existed, you tube makeup content creators really gave you honesty on products, and they educated you on the product itself with hour long videos that they explained in detail. Also they showed you how to use products correctly in tutorials.
LOVE this rant so much-yes on toast to all of this in perpetuity. I needed some salty cynicism today. Also, and I know this might sound yawn-inducing, but I adore this look...it's so natural and subtle and freckly and fresh-faced, as though you might just be off to pick a basket of apples from an orchard. Yes. Might you be able to make a how-to video for it? Yours hopefully and thankyou for making me smile so often x
@@kackie Oh sure and no pressure OBVIOUSLY, but I'll say this, if you gave the loveliest makeup to me I would NOT be able to conjure the beauty equivalent of a laid back, effortless-seeming utterly delicious carbonara or arrabiatta 👀. You're super skilled with this, believe me.
You are impressively well-informed and thoughtful about so much more than makeup. I admire your content for its frankness and cognitive complexity-Smart is beautiful!
This is one of the most important things I’ve watched lately because I really was starting to get bogged down and forget what people look like. I refuse to download TT but there is enough cross posting on other platforms that I’m getting hit from all angles anyway. Bringing it to our attention helps us think about what’s we’re consuming and why they want to get our attention that way. Thanks for this
My view is that these kids will learn. The more they buy and realize the reality, the more they'll learn. And at least they're spending their foolish parents' money and not their own yet. Really appreciate your thoughtful takes, Kackie.
I’ve never had a video leave me so utterly depressed yet be so legitimately entertained throughout- such a good vid! I think increasingly it’s become an exercise in self-delusion to not assume the worst when considering the potential damage that TikTok & social media as a whole is inflicting on the world, & whilst unideal, I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling uneasy apprehension! Just nobody mention AI now 👀
Kackie, I rarely subscribe to anything on media platforms. I'm nearing 50 and quite skeptical. But this video made me hit the subscribe button. As a teacher and aunt of a teenager, I am terrified of what TikTok is doing to our kids. Thank you for this.
Longtime viewer, first time commentor. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your content. Your credibility, honesty, and professionalism. I watch your videos because I actually care about formulas, nuances, textures. Your video really resonated with me.
Just recentley learned that if you have makeup in sephora or ulta they dictate what makeup you put out... For instance like the new Natasha Denona palette thats why it looks similar to her other ones is bc they told her that thats what will sell... So thats why most makeup have become so bland is bc of the store not the artist!!
I wanted to let you know that I just recently discovered your channel and it is absolutely, truly the most valuable and positive content that I have come across lately. I love how passionate you are! I do believe that you care about all the people watching your content and I appreciate you so much. I look forward to binge-watching more. lol. Thank you again for your insights and your care. And, just so you know, that "find your perfect red lip" video was life-changing. What I found really fascinating is that even though my lips are more pigmented than yours, my perfect shade turned out to be very very similar to yours. So cool. I am still hunting for the right lipstick to buy and try because "straight up mauve" is going to be about right for me and since I never even imagined that color would work for me I don't own anything close to it. lol
I literally agree with every single thing you said. You're the first beauty-content provider I've suscribed to in ten years. Love your directness and authenticity.
Clicked for the truth bombshell, subscribed for the rants about TikTok and bad influencers. We need more than people who talk about these things. Keep up the great work Kackie! P.S. I love your mannerisms and your funny quirks, like the random singing you do in some of your other videos. I would actually listen to a commentary show by you because I find you very entertaining and love listening to you talk.
I recently started following you, omg you’re amazing. I never really dared to put makeup on because it always looked bad and with your videos I’m starting to understand why, thank you so much for the great content and your passion for teaching about beauty.
New subscriber here. You popped up in my feed and I am so glad you did! Your commentary is SPOT ON. Thank you for exposing the hideous underbelly of the beauty industry, especially in social media. I have teens with jobs, and therefore their own money, and they are constantly influenced by so many viral products, and believing that there is something wrong with themselves, even though they are unique and beautiful! I deleted TT and Insta simply to get rid of the rubbish out of my feed. As a Gen Xer, you hit nail on the head with your comments about rehashing the beauty insecurities that we all fought to destroy and accept ourselves as we are. Also, my girls are addicted to vaping - this infuriates me so much, especially since they think it is healthier than smoking! Where are the viral videos about people becoming ill, injured or dying from vapes?? Thank you for your content Kackie. New fan here ❤ Keep doing what you're doing 👏
THANK YOU Kackie!❤ Will save this video and share with one of my closest friends that got two daughters, a three years old and a newborn. These points are GREAT for the future when her daughters may start getting interested in beauty products.
I scroll right past the beauty gurus on TikTok, and the algorithm now gives me more of what I love on there (primarily cute animals 😺🐶🐮🐴and people who have triumphed over tragedy). I have a very select few beauty creators here on RUclips, and you are top of the list, My Dear. ♥ Love you!
It took me a minute to start paying attention to this video b/c....my goodness your lip color and look today is just...chef's kiss. What a stunner you are! THIS video is beyond perfection... my neck hurts from agreeing so often and nodding up and down! lol How many TIMES have I gone to the drug store to buy a dupe when I already had 3/4 of a bottle of its luxury counterpart LEFT. This is just a spot on video, Kackie. Well done, you. xo
I'm rather new to yt, like I only got on board with social media at all around 7 yeas ago with Insta, but you are speaking to my soul at 20min mark ( I have no idea how to refer to that point here either). Watching your vids as a form of easy access color theory too. Very enjoyable. Thank you!
I swear I have tried to talk about all these concerns to people in my life but it's like way over their heads, it's so much more than short form content and lies, it's the destruction of generational progress for acceptance of ourselves and natural beauty. Everything you said, thank you for your passion for art theory and real talk ✌️🖤
Love this!! So glad I found your channel from my suggested videos . Instant subscribe. 💕 I truly dislike Tik Tok and have personally seen the effect it has had on the younger generation. It is so sad.
I don't comment much on your videos but I love your videos and really rely on your take on makeup. But I definitely agree with you on all those points. And I'm guilty of buying both the high end and the drug store for comparison even if I go watch multiple videos doing those comparisons. And I don't watch TikTok, just don't really trust those creators. YT is still the platform I go to for makeup content. Thank you again for all the hard work you put into making these videos. Really enjoying your recent videos on the color theory too!!
This was so eye opening and validating as to why I don’t trust TikTok and why I’ll continue to keep my kids off devices & social media for as long as I can. Thank you @kackie, keep doing what you do
Thanks for your work, for being that passionate, authentic and true to yourself. We need more of that in 2024. I'm "only" 28 and I am scared of how social medias in general are evolving. I installed Tiktok to follow the account of a dog that I personnaly now, just one second after opening the app, I felt "attacked" the agressivity of those contents thrown in your face... ! It reminded me why I never wanted to install it in the first place... ugh. The word "discusting" is really appropriate. xx from France
I went down a Royal Horse Guards YT rabbit hole, (don’t ask), and am just now catching up on Kackie videos. Then I noticed that you not only made it to 100k subscribers, you surpassed it by 5k! Congratulations, you deserve a million subscribers! I share your channel and videos on FB, often, and will continue to do so!
Thanks for sharing your takes. Tik tok (and reels) really is brain rotting us, myself included. One thing that is particularly scary that Jen Luv reported on is the use of AI models, meaning a model is photographed and voice recorded so that they can be AI generated to do anything/say anything. It looks like a real and credible person sitting in their car sharing a product they love but it's an ad.
I wish you could help everyone see this in every aspect of people’s lives. I get so mad about all the click bait and misinformation people don’t value their own research!
OMG! What a cool and important video! I've found your channel about a month ago, immediately started following and really LOOOOVE the way you're talking, reviewing things, explaining things, doing makeup. You're soooo awesome! Thank you for all the job you're doing 💜
Amazing content!! I have unfollowed several content creators recently because the product they are delivering is just commercials. These are content creators I used to love but they have changed and not for the better. Love your content! It is intelligent, educational, and non biased. Keep up the great work.
So much of what makes you angry makes me angry as well as Gen x! I despise the messages our young people are getting on social media. It is detrimental to our society and our future. 😕
“Sunscreen doesn’t need to be fun, sunscreen needs to be effective” is THE LINE.
...and cosmetically elegant.
Couldn't agree more (although the fact that I'm an oncology nurse has me biased!!!).
@@The_Viking_Highlander cosmetically elegant enough that I will actually wear it (and also, please don't burn my eyes).

Id like to know as well!

pleeeez don't leave Kackie 🤗🤗
I agree!! I feel like short form content is more appropriate for hmm 🤔 like performing rather than reviewing lol
Ah! 🙂.
Agreed. I will NEVER get a ticktock. Toxicity in an app. No thank you.
Agree!!
“They don’t care if you like it, they just care that you buy it.” Exactly.
Media literacy and critical thinking needs to be taught at school, and at home, over and over again, from grade school to college level...
Idk about you but I definitley was taught this is every english class.
@@maggiemurphy4092the critical thinking in schools is only taught against targeted points. You’re not taught to think against school system, society’s way of working or even the lobbies that are destroying the next generations.
It is taught in school but stronger things are in force here. Peer pressure etc.
literally!!
Just finished a book called „stolen focus“ and it talks about endless scrolling, algorithms, how negativity draws people in. Highly recommend it.
Absolutely. I need to check it out. how to do nothing is amazing on that too.
Is the author Johann Hari?
I think a big part of knowing you’re a true grown up is when trends don’t affect your style and especially your bank account.
I've seen it, and it is so wrong.
the vaping thing infuriates me. big money was like shit they stopped smoking. let’s rebrand and start fresh with this new batch of children
Exactly. Big Tobacco just rebranded as Big Vape. 😔
EXACTLY. Even when you learn that you shouldn't feel bad about something, it still exists in your mind. You never un-learn it.
Im 46. Had to go away and learn what hip dips are. Now Ive read you can get a filler to 'fix' these. WTF Some folk out there are absolutely bonkers.
For me the frustration is the unending search for the Holy Grail (in an ever-increasing number of increasingly contrived categories) and the cold hard reality that no one in the beauty industry wants the Crusades to end.
True. I've been noodling on a video like, "in defense of imperfect products"
This sounds like an *excellent* idea.
@@kackie please I want to see this!!
I curbed my beauty purchases a whole lot when I realized I was chasing the next best product, rather than enjoying the perfectly fine products I already have. If I enjoy the blushes, mascara, etc that I have, why am I spending so much money on products that are supposedly better?
😂😂😂
Ditto from this 49 year old woman. 🦋👩🦰
Gen X grew up with books and magazines instead of online content - so our attention span is not short enough for itty bitty TikTok content.
I 100% agree! I’m 54 and I didn’t try TikTok until this year and deleted it after only a week. It just felt like all noise, no substance.
@@valeriesjourney17 Me either I'm an old 47...
PREACH!! I am so, so, so happy I never got into TikTok. I feel like I really dodged a bullet.
I got premium too and life without ads (other than just sponsored content from creators I trust) is so great!
I am halfway through and I have seen three ads. By the third ad, I thought the video was near finished. Nope.... 😂😂😂
@@BethKetelaar have had premium for a few years now. Don’t think I could watch RUclips without it anymore.
When you have (recently diagnosed) ADHD all your life, menopause has sent you spinning into a second adolescence, and none of the traditional meds are working, and you have vestibular vertigo with exponential anxiety? Please don’t tell me to breathe.
Kackie, that lip color was MADE for you. Your videos have been amazing lately!! I feel so inspired. ❤
Thank you so much!! Hermes really knows how to reel me in on a lip color and they ALWAYS NAIL IT, darn it!
agreed. it's stunning, classy, elegant, everything. couldn't stop looking at it on you.

I knew there would be a comment about this! Thank you! I loved it so much, but can't spend that much on a barely three lipstick!
My company CEO has a cyber truck and someone put a picture of Oscar the Grouch on it. But also, re: venture capital and company buyouts…the dirty little secret is that lots of people launch companies with the goal of selling in five years.
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD POINT!!!!! (And L O L @ oscar!)
Oscar the Grouch, I love it!
What is a cyber truck?
@@janice8514 That ugly, expensive thing that Elon invented. It's a real turkey.
Yes I'm telling my kid to look at birds. LOL
People in the tech space don't let their kids use social media, especially monied people. Rich tech people send their kids to Montessori school and don't let them use phones, tablets etc. Food for thought.
Legacy member xD 1:56
I'd only ever heard "legacy" being used in computing so I loved the use of that word here :D
Lately I've seen an insidious trend of insecurity and I'm sure TT is responsible.
agree, millenials in my experience are much more body positive than younger generation
It is really sad that body positivity was just another marketing trend….and also diversity.
I’m not on tik tok. And i never will be. You always put out great videos. I look forward to them every week.
I feel so fortunate to discover this channel. I feel like I can finally relate to a beauty influencer and have good down to earth advice instead of just having products pushed onto me
Omg thank you!!
This video feels plucked right out of my brain. I've been in the beauty community since 2006 and seeing how has changed is *wild*.
The fun vs effective sunscreen rant unearthed a memory of the purple and blue sunscreens in the 90s lol anyone else remember those?
WHOAAAA core memory
Zincs!!!
Oh wow. I don't know that I would have ever thought of those again without this prompt.
You make me so happy that I don't have tiktok. Yikes.
Same, have absolutely no interest.
I've never been on it, never will be on it.
Same . Waste of time
I had friends try to convince me to download it just so I can see the tik toks they share with each other that are funny.
The dose of sanity we all need! Bring on the xray vision... tired of the lies! 💯🎯💜
YES and thank you!!

I need to rewatch this.
What a fantastic video from one of my favorite people.
👏👏👏
Any chance they discontinuing the foundation? It comes in the same compact. 😝
I’m so with you about TikTok - it’s so toxic and for lack of a better word, primitive.
Where is the triple like button! Girl you are killin’ it with these videos. I can’t wait to show this one to my 14 year old daughter.
Every single part of the video is so honest. Especially the part regarding the malicious children's exploitation @23:32
This is impressive commentary. Beauty and marketing and economics. Home run, Kackie!
Thank you! I can recreate it in an IG reel maybe? It's like Italian food - mostly quality of ingredients. Not so much my skills in preparation 😂

Queer Eye is so wholesome I always cry ❤
I wanted to let you know that I just recently discovered your channel and it is absolutely, truly the most valuable and positive content that I have come across lately. I love how passionate you are! I do believe that you care about all the people watching your content and I appreciate you so much. I look forward to binge-watching more. lol. Thank you again for your insights and your care. And, just so you know, that "find your perfect red lip" video was life-changing. What I found really fascinating is that even though my lips are more pigmented than yours, my perfect shade turned out to be very very similar to yours. So cool. I am still hunting for the right lipstick to buy and try because "straight up mauve" is going to be about right for me and since I never even imagined that color would work for me I don't own anything close to it. lol
Well said! Your/our anger, shock and disappointment about what is happening in social media and how is it influencing adolescents is justified!!!

Thank you!
The colours of your makeup and shirt look absolutely stunning on you
I swear I have tried to talk about all these concerns to people in my life but it's like way over their heads, it's so much more than short form content and lies, it's the destruction of generational progress for acceptance of ourselves and natural beauty.
Thank you @kackie, keep doing what you do
I love you! No bullshit just normal common sense ...so so rare. Thankyou!!
I love that shimmer on your eyes!!
I can’t stand TikTok and you’ve articulated all of the reasons for me! Thank you friend 🥰
Kaki. I love you. I appreciate you. I feel less crazy now. *Thank you.*

Preach. This all needed to be said.
Thank you for this video. Short form is killing my attention span. Thank you for this long form. Watched the whole video.
I have to say I am mesmerized by whatever that lip shade ur wearing is. It is stunning!!
I wish you could help everyone see this in every aspect of people’s lives. I get so mad about all the click bait and misinformation people don’t value their own research!
I discovered you with your video about red lipsticks and i m so happy i found a sincere and interesting person to watch. Thx
