We need a 2010 version when makeup skills weren’t as good as 2014. Coastal Scents was all the rage.
I don't know if it was 2010 or earlier (maybe 2006) when I saw people with white eyeshadow around their eyes, looked like a flour circle lol
Don't forget that HIDEOUS shade of pink lipgloss that looked AWFUL on all skin tones for some reason, and it was never flattering 😭 oh yh and don't forget the panda eyes, no setting or primer, ashy af blue eyeshadow, EXTRA frosty dollar store shimmery eyeshadow, pencil thin eyebrows, patchy bronzer and blush
I don't think 2014 is any better or more informed than 2010, it's just a different aesthetic. It's interesting because in the 2010's, makeup companies and influencers started pressuring people into buying more products for their daily routine. They insisted that so many of those products were vital to your makeup routine, and it just so happens you have to shell out even more money to make it possible. The makeup trends of the mid to late 2010's are a bit of a scam. These companies want you buying more and more products so they can rake in the dough. I bought into it for awhile, believing I needed all sorts of skincare, highlighter, huge eyeshadow pallets, etc. I realized how much money I was spending and that most of those products were not that important to my routine. I look so much better now with a more simple look, though I still love my eyeshadow.

I honestly think they do this so people can think “wow they must have a lot of money.. their value of the dollar is way different than mine.” Lame.

I don't even wear concealer anymore... My makeup is very much 2014 meets vintage style. And let's just say I had my bad makeup days... Now I have my style guaranteed to not look bad.

@@shiprayadav9409 lol I just didn't understand it as a teen so I really looked goofy as a grown adult trying to work it out 😂 but oh well Lolol. what I've learned from watching different makeup channels on RUclips is that baking works for some people, but if you have dry skin, all that powder sucks up the moisture that you do have and leaves you flaky and leathery. If you have dry skin, no need to use powder at all, if you have combo skin, lightly powder those areas rather than baking. Or those are general guidelines that I've heard. Some channels and definitely Instagram make it seem like baking is good for all skin. Also baking looks great on camera for them, but in-person might look bad. So like, the real rule is figure out what looks good on you in person, and what is good for YOUR skin.

They talk about breaking away from techniques that don't work for everyone, especially Robert Welsh and Snitchery. This era of make up was so contradictory. Like...you wanted your face to be super matte and dry, but you still proceeded to use a ton of hilighter in every spot for the shiny look. But we used powder highlight on top of our ALREADY powdered faces. And we got all surprised when it looked chalky. ☠️

@@nathaliearias3235 too much powder makes u look like a chalk board. Everyone has a different way of doing it, but I like using a liquid highlight under my concealer/bb cream and it give a natural glow, and even if I powder under my eyes, (usually do to keep my concealer in place) then I don’t look cakey.
Remember when they tried to covince us highlighting and strobing were two different things?
ppl still do this tho. you’ll see them baking their entire face w that white powder and then using a shiny highlighter for a “natural glow” like huh
but then you end up using about $20 of setting spray to get the dewiness back and all of your makeup ends up rubbing off halfway thru the day anyways

I had a cherry scented eos that I used until it was flattened to the point I couldn’t use it anymore and in retrospect I wonder if the reason I used it so much was because it sucked and I needed to keep putting more on

Oh myyy this was like my early 20s around the time I REALLY got into make up after not really wearing anything more than mascara, and I remember watching videos just like this, and how everyone was obsessed with the exact same products, super expensive products, and I have ADHD so I just like, hyper fixated on make up for about 6 months and ended up with sooo much make up. I remember browsing MUA on Reddit like it was the holy grail of make up information. This really brings back memories hahaha. I don't wear much anymore though, I live in the desert and sweat uncontrollably, so it's all kind of too much of a hassle. I can't imagine what it must have been like to get that all off your face.
