  • Steven & Chelsea Tyler & Emmy Giarrusso singing Aerosmith's cover song Remember (Walking In The Sand) for the opening of the Thayer Academy Center For The Arts in Braintree, MA on October 18, 2008 and in 1980. Along with his daughter Chelsea on the right (19 yrs-old at this time), past student Emmy Giarrusso on the left, and guitarist Colin McDonald on the right who does an excellent solo, past graduates performed as well, some going back as far as the Class of '57. Chelsea and his son Taj attended Thayer Academy as well & Emmy now attends Berklee College of Music in Boston. The new Center is to further promote the visual and performing arts at the academy. You can still read an article about it here: tinyurl.com/lqgbauu & the school's site: www.thayer.org/page.cfm?p=1366
Sort of a summer song, I thought I'd combine it with Aerosmith's 1980 live version of it since it's performed so rarely (which I can't understand why). This show was January 25, 1980 at Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland (also referred to as Largo). Joe Perry is not at this show since he had left the band in the summer of '79 so Jimmy Crespo took his place here. Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Richie Supa on keyboards are also present. The song is featured on their album Night In The Ruts released November 1, 1979 on label Columbia Records (Sony/SME). Mary Weiss, lead singer of The Shangri-Las, sang back-up on the album. It is also on their 1980 Greatest Hits album. [I have this entire concert uploaded.]
About the song: It was written by George "Shadow" Morton who produced it for the girl group The Shangri-Las. It was released in 1964 with a B-side "It's Easier To Cry" on the record label Red Bird. It was a hit reaching #5 on the Billboard 100 chart. The group was from Queens, New York City, and being that Steven is from the Bronx (then moved to Yonkers), and around this time he was playing with his band The Strangeurs/Chain Reaction, he said he saw the group and met lead singer Mary Weiss. The Shangri-Las are also known for their #1 hit "Leader of the Pack" in 1964. See here: • The Shangri- Las - Rem...
I like the old version for it's kind of tortured singing (as in a torch song), albeit druggy, and this newer performance. It's also a treat to see and hear his beautiful daughter Chelsea who currently sings in her own band 'badbad'. She is the daughter of Steven's ex-wife Teresa Barrick. Her band: badbadmusic.com/

So true. Don't shoot the messenger, but just to let you know, the phrase is "spitting image," as in someone is so alike as if they are of the person's spit; as if they spit them out of their mouth. Some people have asked about this, and a teacher told them the wrong thing. It's even more distinct when you look at his photos of him when he was 25 (1973) which is Chelsea's age now. Thanks for watching.

Steven Tyler never gives up with his mick jagger poses circa mid 70s no matter in what decade we find him

    • @Grendelmonster8u
      @Grendelmonster8u  Год назад +2

Huh? What Mick Jagger poses? Being a Stones fan, I’ve watched many Stones videos from the beginning of their career and in the mid-70s while Mick was bouncing around the stage and being all sorts of weird and stage props, there was no similarity then or now and not even the clothes. I had a video that showed this but the song Monkey Man was sold from Columbia to a fanatical copyright management company. Both had some split jumps in the 70s but it all looked so different. Are you saying microphone holding like here? You might as well compare him to Janis Joplin or Jim Morrison. Mick also was a clapper. As far as microphone stand holding-carrying it around, lifting it up, I’ve seen Rod Stewart do that with the Small Faces and in the Jeff Beck Group but not with scarves hanging from it. Mick didn’t jump with his stand, at least I can’t think of a show where he did. As far as clothes, Steven was more similar to Freddie Mercury.
Steven and Mick had very different stage styles. I’ve always thought comparisons to the Stones-Mick and Keith, Steven and Joe-were ridiculous. The only comparable thing was they were both stand-outs in the band and attention was devoted to them. Everything else was very different including the music.
Perhaps you can clarify and give examples. If my video hadn’t been taken down it had live clips of Mick from different periods of the Stones. The video was visually all devoted to Mick and his stage “weirdness.”
Despite disagreeing, I appreciate your bringing up the subject because it’s one of those I’ve commented about many times.

Back in 2012 when I saw them in my state a friend had corporate seats that was so close to the runway. She was there and I guess he wanted to show her off, so she walked to the end in a simple, short glittery silver dress. Striking. Time flies, she’s in her 30s and a mother. Still looks good.

I think you meant to say Brad Whitford who left after Joe to do the Whitford St. Holmes group. In hindsight, it’s probably good they took off and did their own thing. Besides Joe being broke, they learned they can’t replicate their dynamic.

great. In the second performance I thought it was absolutely
awful, I couldn't believe how perfect the first one was and then
to hear the second one - sorry, was garbage, imo - was NOTHING
like the first version which I could listen to over and over, but would never listen to the second again. It would be hard to imagine any other artist doing a worse job, was an insult to the Shangri-las. Should have just played the first one. It was like going from a grade A straight to an F.

Steven was on serious drugs and they were playing many back-to-back shows which was also tiring. It was the only recorded performance of the song. Chelsea had stage fright the first verse...

She doesn't seem nervous, she just messed up the timing, and they probably didn't practice much. There are monitors in front of them with the lyrics (you can see both she and Steven looking at them). That's the Thayer Academy of Arts where she went to school, and thus she's performed before. Steven has screwed up lyrics while not being nervous, and thus he needs monitors to remember all his lines--the monitors are always there at every concert he does with Aerosmith, and sometimes at small shows he does on his own. This is only the third time he's performed this song live, and he doesn't remember the lyrics. In the second part of this in 1980 he messes up the lyrics, but then he was also on a lot of drugs then too.

Out of tune man... this girls should learn to sing before exposing to the public, or even expose their father... i know his father is drooling, but teach her.

This was just a school thing and no doubt without much rehearsal. Chelsea was 19. This is a student taken video, not a show exposed to the larger public, per se, except it was uploaded online elsewhere. A lot of fans can't even tell they're out of tune--a majority of fans in general can't tell when songs or instruments are out of tune. The song was only played live once in a concert in Japan since the public concert in 1980 that follows this student show. I know a bunch of fans are just happy to see Steven sing it live in any way, shape or form--it's not even really about Chelsea to a bunch of them, but the song. Also, the young guitarist does his solo fine, so it's about him too.
You have a good ear, but in no way can it really embarrass Steven when there are uploads and concerts of him singing all druggie and what not, such as the one in this video. Yet Jimmy Crespo is flawless on the guitar, and Steven messes up a few lyrics lines but his voice isn't far off from the studio version, and in a way it sounds more pained live, that is, emotionally pained. These students were still in a learning phase of their lives. Even now AS will play a guitar part out of tune, but only a few notice it. Even Mick Jagger sang out of tune on a song at a show this year, and he's been doing it since at least 1961. Shit happens.
Chelsea has put out songs since then with her band--I put all the links in my last post here. However, those songs are more "machinized." I have no idea what advice Steven has given Chelsea/students at any time or after this show, but sure, you'd expect he would. He clearly knows that Chelsea messed up her timing here and attempts recovery. It's a good learning experience. Thank you for your comment. (:

He sings it the best...she needs a lot of fine tuning for sure. Think it was a bit of stage fright too. Then again, SHE is no Steven Tyler.

nina bates It's all good. Steven has screwed up many times too, but he knows how to better adjust to mistakes. The guitarists, etc. make mistakes also...it happens.
