I wanted to look at it because I want to upgrade from a Samsung CFG70 to "4k" curved. I'm an illustrator and use gaming equipment for my computer work because of the graphic capabilities. Your review was clear and I know that a visually appealing studio makes work happy and successful.
Hi Napoleon, I am so grateful that you find this review clear. You are right about happiness. Until now I’m still excited everyday to use my G9. The 49” curved screen has helped me so much with my productivity and I notice the difference if I am not using it. Would love to know if you decide to go for this one. Thank you and all the best.
I managed to get one of these for £700 new after some bargain hunting and I'm so happy I did. Other than the occasional popping sound I haven't had any issues at all!
The first monitor I got had 3 dead pixels and a horrible backlight bleed with HDR ON + crackling. I tried to return it and they told me that 5+ pixels accept the complaint, for the backlight bleed they said it was an acceptable image. I asked for the money back and bought another same device, no bad pixels, no backlight bleed, no crackling, no flickering, everything is perfect for now. I have been using it for 3 months.
Wow, that is cheeky for Samsung or whoever the seller was to refuse an exchange. I am glad you managed to get a refund and it looks like everything is working well for you. Wow! I have heard some users who got lucky with no issues. Not even the popping sound? You are so lucky!
What annoys me about these dead pixel policies of some companies..ie that a certain amount is not considered a fault is that if you knew it was there before you bought the monitor you would not purchase it and yet Samsung thinks it's ok to leave you with it after sale. From now on I'm definately searching out companies/retailers that allow the return of monitors with even one dead pixel as most of us would not buy the display if we knew about it before purchase. Also are you sure the pixel is dead. Sometimes they are just stuck. I had one such pixel show on my screen recently and strangely enough unplugging the monitor from the graphics card solved my problem or there are stuck pixel vids that can sometimes do the same thing. Great vid thanks so much Pia...PS my monitor was switched off as was the pc when i unplugged the display port cable from the monitor...something LG advised me to do.
Thank you, LionheartNh. I completely agree with you. Most of us won’t pick a monitor with a dead pixel if we was to pick in the shops. It was a bit of a situation for me as we were on a lockdown when I bought it, the monitor is big and awkward to send back and I may get a replacement with more than one dead pixel. I’m afraid it really is a dead pixel. Thankfully though it really isn’t noticeable not unless I try hard to look for it that’s why I decided to keep it in the end. Good to hear you managed to fix a stuck pixel.
Wow that's a cool design of screen and so many great features. Our TV is also from Samsung, we have it about 3 years ago and we're happy with the quality. Great review Pia and Thank you for sharing!
Nice review. I would just like to add my thoughts to the gaming aspect. The Odyssey G9 is a nice monitor, I would recommended anyone interested in getting this to do your research. For office use, it is a simple plug and play, but really though, I wouldn't pick this up for the price. Lots of other monitors out there this big at half the cost, if all you want to do is use it for productivity. Gaming on the other hand is a bit more of a pain to dial in. Very graphic card dependent for gaming.(2060 super or better to get full potential) This monitor also doesn't like to play well with other monitors. Can not stress enough, do your home work before buying one of these. I just returned mine because of issues that should have been fixed by now. Flickering has been an issue since these launched.
Unfortunately this is not true. if you look for 32:9 monitors with high resolution and at least 100Hz refresh rate (I know not everyone needs that for productivity but I do), this is really the only option.
I think that cable is not only needed for the refresh rate but to get the full resolution as well. My M1 Pro will not take up the entire screen, I have to use PIP and take the widest option when using the Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter.
I can't believe that popping sound is the noise of the heart plastic expanding. When I heard you say 1500 lb I thought to myself the TV is that heavy. LOL!
Just got mine setup yesterday and came by for your opinion. I absolutely love it. I will say that my work Macbook Pro (Apple Silicon) won't drive the monitor over an USB-C to HDMI connection when I switch back and forth between that and my mini. I have a USB-C to display port cable on the way. Thanks for the vid!

I was considering buying this monitor but after viewing it at my local store the curve was just too much for me - I know this is subjective but I would prefer a slightly flatter panel, unfortunately most of the other monitors of this screen size are all out of stock where I live.
Hi Rufdymond. This made me remember my reaction when I was unboxing this monitor as we bought it without seeing it in person. The curved seems extreme and it made us question our judgement 🤣. I got used to it so quickly though and I personally love the curve. It is subjective indeed as you rightly said. I hope you find one soon that suits your needs and preference.
@@PiaJustynn It has been wonderful. I use it for work and for gaming. Today I have the Ergotron HX mounting arm arriving so I can easily move it around above my desk.

Just some small feedback: I would have liked if the "mouse-clicking" sound you edit into some of your transitions were a bit softer - I personally think it's a little loud when using headphones. Otherwise thanks for a great video! :)
Hi BadgersEscape (love the name), thank you for your comment and feedback, it means a lot. I will certainly be more mindful of that in my future videos 😄. The G9 is such an amazing monitor and for the last 5 months that I have been using it, the issues outweighs the benefits for me. I just hope they fix the issues in the future. I've heard from other people they haven't had some of the issues that I am experiencing. Would love to hear if you'd end up going for it and how it will be like for you. Thank you and have a lovely weekend 😄.
I just bought the G9 and hooked it up to my M1 MBA. It'll flicker if the display setting reverts to Variable (60Hz-120Hz). This seems to happen when everything goes to sleep and comes back. If you bring up the control panel and reset it to 120Hz, the flicker should go away (it does on mine).
The dead pixel must be a pain. This monitor looks like it has everything a creative person needs!!! I would love in the future to try something similar, but at the moment I am ok with my imac's screen. It's way smaller than the Odyssey G9, basically it, 21.5 inch but enough for my space. Great Video Pia!!!! :))))🙏🙏🙏
Thank you, Tommy. I actually don't notice the dead pixel and it is quite hard to find it, thankfully there is only one 😄. iMac screen is amazing 😍. Have a lovely bank holiday 😄
@@PiaJustynn You're lucky that the dead pixel appears to just be inactive. My very first laptop had one that was a bright green all the time which was super annoying. You can avoid dead pixels though by just returning the monitor within the 14 days return period (at least here in Germany, not sure about other countries). And yes, it's not covered by warranty.
Thanks Pia, nice user impression review. I'll let you know if I bought one after I get released from the hospital, where I will be for a while being that my body is trying to recover from the blood loss due to selling several of my organs to buy it.
You need to enable VRR control under the "system" osd menu (keep scrolling until you find it) and that will get rid of the flicker. It will remove flicker but possibly introduce micro studder
@@PiaJustynn if you don't have VRR (gsync or freesync) there shouldn't be any artifacting with the max 240hz refresh @qhd . BUT if your Mac book doesn't support display port 1.4 with DSC then it will lock your frame rate lower and I believe these panels have a lot of overshoot between 95hz - 140hz.at least on mine
Hi Omar. Thank you for watching, it means a lot. I completely agree with you, it really is such a nice monitor, the issues are a small compromise but still is the best monitor out there at present 😄
the title is a bit off. 2months seems not that long for me. i play games and do multitasking work and only 4 to 6 hours monitor is off. pc on 24/7 most of the time because i do afk in game before sleeping. anyways, thanks for sharing your 2 months review off the monitor, looking forward for the update of this monitor.
Hi Nero. It’s been over a year now that I’ve been using this monitor on a daily basis and my review/experience on it is still exactly the same as mentioned in this video.
Nice review, 👍. Keep on making videos 😁😎👍. In my opinion a dead pixel should not be allowed as it would drive me mad !! I am thinking of buying one via a website so if it it has a dead pixel I will return it under the consumer rights act 2015 🤔
Thank you very much 😄. Go for it 😄👍. I could have returned mine but we bought it when we were on a national lockdown and it's not that easy to return this big beast 😂. In the end I thought it's really hard to find the single dead pixel anyway so I just stuck with mine 😄.
Just bought it Update: Now that i have used it for few weeks i can say it is just amazing, monitor had no problems, no dead pixels, no light leaks, even came with latest firmware installed. I am absolutely amazed by this monitor, totally a game changer, picture is clear and refresh rate is 240hz, which is super nice. Gaming with this is next level, all smooth and no flickers. Working is also adoptive, you can split it to 3 screens and do design, coding and see output at the same time. All in all 10 out of 10
@@PiaJustynn Hi, Can you get that 240hz with your macbook pro? As far as I saw on the video at the moment your screen is set to 120hz. Even with the new mac studio as far as I have read online you can't get that 240hz. :/
@@PiaJustynn Yes. Definitely is a completely different experience than you get from other displays and it is amazing. Can't work using regular monitors anymore ))) And also I have no issues like "popcorn machine" or broken pixels. I use it as a 2 monitors. One half is my working macbook for cording, and the second part is my pc, where I have turned on RUclips or music. It is a little bit expensive, but I could recommend it to all my friends.
i bought the monitor loves it amazing at games but that popping noise was to much for me. I cant justify spending 2400.00cnd and living with it. I ended up bringing it back and bought the 38inch Alienware IPS panel instead. I hope it works out for you thanks for the video
Hi Franco, I do agree with you the popping sound can be a bit too much. Overall I stuck by this and I do love it despite it’s flaws. I’m glad you found something that works better for you. Thank you and have a good week.
I got the popping on the bottom corners like crazy. It drove me to the point of cracking open because Samsung support was absolutely no help at all. Broke the cheap plastic bottom bezel but stuck some foam on the bottom corners and solved my issue. It seems the be the expansion of the metal and plastic glueing the panel together its all one part. Never seen a monitor made this way.
Hi Jonathan. Wow! What a genius fix! It really should’ve been a better build quality for this price point, isn’t it? I hope Samsung fixes this in the future. Despite it’s issues, I still really like this monitor. How are you finding it?
Hi Blop, Love the name! This monitor has helped me with productivity if that's something that's similar to what you are interested in? You may want to check this out. ruclips.net/video/2va3bQmiJr0/видео.html All the best.
Just got this ysday. Had to get an adaptor for the display port (given with monitor) to work with my Mac Mini for that 5120 x 1400 resolution. It's gorgeous!!!
Hi Thibault. I'm glad you like this, thank you very much. It is the Quntis Monitor Lamp and I am actually working on a video on that as I do get asked quite a lot about it. Here is the Amazon Link so you can check it out US Link: amzn.to/3qFNMia UK Link: amzn.to/36aAbWl
I have this and wanted to note about the screen flicker, I only ever see it in certain games. In fact, one game flickered so bad I decided just not to play it so I didn't do any longterm damage to the monitor.
Is your monitor still experiencing popping sounds? I just received mine last week and it pops. Guess samsung still haven't resolved the thermal expansion issue. However I noticed the popping stops and settles down after an hour and half when the monitors warms up. Perhaps a little longer if I have the brightness up high.
Hi Kelvin. Yeah I’m afraid I am still experiencing the popping sound. You are right, mine does settle too and then I would hear it again, then it would go. To be honest at this point I rarely hear/notice it because I am mostly editing videos with audio anyways or have a background music of some sort. That’s a bummer that they haven’t solved the thermal issue just yet! I heard some users have been lucky and don’t have this popping issue like ours.
@@PiaJustynn I have the lower 55w model and I thought that would eliminate the pops but I guess not. However at lower brightness at around 20% the pops are less frequent and settles eventually. I did game at 60% and pops quite frequently for half hour before settling again. Luckily I have no other issues besides that.
Oh dear. Yeah the popping sound can be quite a nuisance. I remember wondering what was that weird sound when I first heard it 🤣. Lucky you at least you haven’t got the flickering.
I'm not trying to knock you, but why would you buy this particular monitor if you don't game? So many of the features and specs are specifically for gaming and contribute directly to the massive price. This would be like buying a porsche and only using it to haul large items. There are so many cheaper 49" monitors out there if you're just using it for Excel, Word, etc.
Hi Artistry, I completely understand what you are trying to say and I appreciate your concern. I do use this monitor everyday for my personal and work related tasks, more than excel, word, safari. So for me and my personal workflow and usage, I do make the most and enjoy the specs even though I am not a gamer. Some users solely use this monitor for work, productivity and stocks too and not for gaming and they seem to enjoy it and make the most out of their monitors.
@@PiaJustynn I understand. :) Well enjoy your lovely monitor. There is something to be said for having the best! And i'm sure movies and graphics will look beautiful on it, which is something I didn't consider before. Thanks for the reply and take care :)
The flickers happen because your monitor went to sleep and wakes back up. Its a bug. You would need to turn the monitor completely off and back on to avoid flickering
Great video Pia! Are you finding the quality of the fonts and text on the screen are abit blurry and not as sharp? Im finding the text quality is poor. Any help in this area would be helpful
Make sure to use the monitor at the correct resolution (if your graphics card / cables aren't good enough it's possible you won't be able to select the one you need). Make sure to set Scaling to 100% (windows recommends 125% which won't work with many apps and will create blurry fonts, etc). Make sure that your color settings are 4:4:4 / Full (and not something like 4:2:2 or 4:2:0). Nvidia reduces this automatically if you select a high refresh rate + high resolution and don't have a cable / graphics card that supports the required DP / HDMI standard. In this case you might need to either reduce your refresh rate or buy a newer graphics card / cable. Last but not least always remember: Just because a cable claims to support a certain standard does not mean that it will.
Good review! I can afford one but haven't bought one just yet, the neo is the 2nd release and I'm sure soon a 3rd, which is why I am waiting. Any dead pixels is a return for me within 2 days of purchase. That would annoy the hell out of me for the price of it.

Hi Pia, Thank you for your video. I just installed my samsung 49” to my macbook pro but when i go in sertings/functions majority of them are not available. Are you exerincing the same issue?
Hi Vladislav. There’s a rumour that a mini LED version of this is going to come out this month but there isn’t any confirmation yet. I do hope they release a better version of this addressing the issues especially the flickering and popping sound.
Definitely, no buy YET! Next month will G9 with mini-led tech be released. So I will definitely be waiting for that one. It could also be improved regarding all the current issues.
Yup, you are right. At this point, it’s definitely worth waiting for the mini led announcement 😀. Hopefully they will resolve the issues with the new one.
Hi Pia, if your M1 Mac can only output 120, why buy a 240 Hz monitor? Would have been better to buy a cheaper monitor or two of them! Going to update your PC at a later date?
Hi Pia, thanks for review, it's great! Can I please know what's your desk depth, and whether you think the monitor is too big and makes you fatigue after 5-6 hours using, salamat ;)
Hi Cameron. I’m glad you like the review and I appreciate you for watching it. The depth of my desk is 60cm. I have been using this monitor for over 6 hours straight some days and I don’t experience any fatigue related to the size of the monitor. Despite it’s issues, I absolutely enjoy this monitor and I find that it has been better for my eyes and the 1000r curvature does makes sense for a monitor of this size as it stops me from swaying my upper body because I can see everything despite it being quite long. Are you thinking of getting one? 😆😀. Walang anuman and have a lovely evening ☺️
@@PiaJustynn Hi Pia, yes, currently am using a 2x24" monitor and thinking to get 1 x 49" 32:9 monitor, but just have a bit of concern as my desk is static and glue to the wall (which means i can't install any arm), and my desk depth is 60cm (which good thing to heard from you there's no distance constraint).. Thanks for your response, it's a good insight indeed, have a good weekend and stay safe!
I know it is crazy. I am in the UK and I could’ve returned it but I bought this during the first lockdown. Returning it because of it’s size was quite tricky so I decided to just keep it as I don’t really notice it and I even have troubles finding it. Thankfully there’s just one.
After the 49" (I owned one before), try a dual 5k2k monitor then mount it using ergotron arms. What's great with this setup is you can tilt your monitor vertically and horizontally whenever you need to. And, I don't want an occasional flicker and popping sound. Hahahaha! Paalam...! :D
Hahaha that is such a nice surprise! I am always very happy and excited to meet fellow Filipino in this community. Oohh that sounds like a nice setup. Will definitely have to try that in the future 😄

@@PiaJustynn Thank you Pia!!! Enjoy these days to the maximum :)
I cant wait in till i return it flickering flickrind and more flickring ,in every games. Its insane
Thanks Pia, nice user impression review. I'll let you know if I bought one after I get released from the hospital, where I will be for a while being that my body is trying to recover from the blood loss due to selling several of my organs to buy it.
Hahaha! I hope you recover soon. I have fully recovered now 🤣😆
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very nice video Pia! Can't wait for the next one 👍😁
Thank you! 😃
You need to enable VRR control under the "system" osd menu (keep scrolling until you find it) and that will get rid of the flicker. It will remove flicker but possibly introduce micro studder
That option is greyed out for me. I think it's because it's an M1 MacBook and not a dedicated GPU 😬
Thanks for the review, I have Exactly the Same issues that You Described, But with All that Aside, I Stil love it.
@@PiaJustynn hi, that would make a great review, 1 year g9 usage
@@neroprintingservices that’s a great idea! I”ll work on that. Thank you, Nero 🤗
Thanks for your response. I’ll get one😁👍…….only if my wife let’s me🙄😂🤣
Best of luck 😂😂. Thankfully my husband let me 😂😂😂🤣🤣
😎👍
Just bought it
Update: Now that i have used it for few weeks i can say it is just amazing, monitor had no problems, no dead pixels, no light leaks, even came with latest firmware installed. I am absolutely amazed by this monitor, totally a game changer, picture is clear and refresh rate is 240hz, which is super nice. Gaming with this is next level, all smooth and no flickers. Working is also adoptive, you can split it to 3 screens and do design, coding and see output at the same time.
All in all 10 out of 10
Nice one 🥳! Let me know what your first impressions is so far 😀
@@PiaJustynn Hi, Can you get that 240hz with your macbook pro? As far as I saw on the video at the moment your screen is set to 120hz. Even with the new mac studio as far as I have read online you can't get that 240hz. :/
Looking at the monitor, I definitely agree that it does boost productivity. Ahhh!!!
Thank you, Switblaze. It does indeed hihi.
Great review Pia. I really like this monitor. Looking forward to get one for my son.
Aww your son is soo lucky, Olivia. Let me know what his reaction is like 😄
@@PiaJustynn I definitely will
Thanks for sharing Pia getting mine tomorrow. Being a geek sometimes hurts the pocket book but worth it
Hi Jeremy, hahahaha! I completely agree with you 🤣🤣. Nice one! Exciting times! Let me know how you get on.
Waitng for my one. Will be delivered on Monday.
🥳 have you been enjoying yours?
It really
should’ve been a better build quality for this price point, isn’t it? I hope Samsung fixes this in the future. Despite it’s issues, I still really like this monitor. How are you finding it?
I'm not here because I love tech, I'm here to get a review on something that might help me accomplish my goals and tasks.

Just got this ysday. Had to get an adaptor for the display port (given with monitor) to work with my Mac Mini for that 5120 x 1400 resolution. It's gorgeous!!!
Hi Keith, glad to hear you are loving your new monitor. It really is gorgeous! Have lots of fun with it.
Thanks for this information. Good video 👍

It would've been indeed. Thank you very much. Have a lovely weekend 😍
Great video, thanks for sharing this review !
Say, what's the bar atop of your screen ? Is that some kind of fancy lamp ? Microphone ? Webcam ? :D
Good to hear that you can identify what the trigger is. Unfortunately for my usage, it is inconsistent. Although it hasn’t been to bad lately.
It's Most definitely my next monitor
Nice one! I’m very excited for you 🥳
def buying this, ty for the solid review
Thank you, Rebirthflame. Enjoy your new monitor 🥳
It’s very cool how you are using it
Thank you very much. I have been enjoying this monitor indeed 🥹
Thanks for your review. It helped me a lot to take a decision whether to buy the Odyssey G9 or not.
I am so happy you find this useful. Thank you for watching 😊😀
Hey Pia this is so beautiful as I've said before. Thanks for sharing this review xx

@@PiaJustynn hey your welcome my friend and I hope u have a nice weekend
@@artistryartistry7239 Thank you very much and have a lovely week ☺️
I hear the monitor pops if the room is cold, this is due to it heating with transient ambient temps
Unfortunately it pops regardless of the temperature. We’ve had heatwaves and still does the same.
Have you integrated your MacBook in your workflow or do you leave the screen closed? Thanks
The flickers happen because your monitor went to sleep and wakes back up. Its a bug. You would need to turn the monitor completely off and back on to avoid flickering
Full watch and great review 👌
Thank you very much. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend 😄
@@PiaJustynn and you pia
Great video Pia! Are you finding the quality of the fonts and text on the screen are abit blurry and not as sharp? Im finding the text quality is poor. Any help in this area would be helpful
Hi James. So far the fonts and texts appears as sharp as they were when I first got my G9 to me.
Thank you, Tremor. Would you be considering the samsung odyssey ark? Looks cool but is way too expensive for me 😬😅
@@PiaJustynn I do like the Ark, I need to wait for Samsung to give you one to test and then go from there 😊
@@tremorflow3614 That would be the dream ☺

Thank you for your video.

Great video!! Really!
Thank you very much. I hope you have a great weekend 🤗

Basically all hdr issues will be fixed.
That would be great 😀

Hi Pia, if your M1 Mac can only output 120, why buy a 240 Hz monitor? Would have been better to buy a cheaper monitor or two of them!

That sounds perfect! Thank you Cameron. Have a lovely weekend too ☺️
Hi, can you please explain, how I can setup the picture without stretching out?
Awesome video... very helpful this video🥰
I think its crazy that yours has a dead pixel. To me that is unacceptable especially at that price. Lucky I'm living in the EU
I know it is crazy. I am in the UK and I could’ve returned it but I bought this during the first lockdown. Returning it because of it’s size was quite tricky so I decided to just keep it as I don’t really notice it and I even have troubles finding it. Thankfully there’s just one.

Oh no, so sorry you are having that problem. This is the cable that I personally use for my MacBook geni.us/BTZL6

I used to have the flickering on Windows alienware - then I stopped gaming, purchased the monitor for work (crazy right but true); and since i did not have a USC to DP cable around I connected with HDMI 2.0; since I am not playing I dont mind a huge a refresh rate, but guess what? the flickering stopped with MBP and hdmi
