    Lot's of great tips. I have mine sitting in my shed still to be rebuilt. I switched over to a Hurst and have been very happy since.

      Hurst is great, the biggest problem is not the shift to itself but the actual rod assemblies for a Galaxie with a Borg Warner T10

    Hi, Jeff and Crew,
    I don't have any Ford blood in me, yet (Dreaming about getting me a McGarrett boat.), but I still learn a lot from you.
    Thank you 👍🇺🇸

    I’ll be looking forward to the transmission tear down. I’m a weirdo, I enjoy gear work (most of the time).

      I'm hoping to find green grass and blue skies forever in there. But I'm kind of figuring it's gonna be a pain and a slog no matter what lol.

    Bill Heeley in Olney, MD rebuilt the factory shifter on my ‘64 Galaxie 500XL.

      Bill and his son are great people and do an AWESOME job. They are still selling stuff on eBay under fordfourspeedshifters.

    I just found out the stock shifter assembly from my ‘66 Mustang is worth about $500. Crazy! 😮

      @AutoRestoMod  2 года назад +1

      Yep the shifter everyone threw away is now the cost of a brand new Hurst shift box less rods.

    So what you are saying it …. Get a Hurst? 🤷‍♂️😂 unfortunately I have an auto in the floor but one day I will be going 5 speed manual. Just love the feel and sound. Keep up the great work and sharing with us.

    • @AutoRestoMod

      In some respects that could be true. Hurst no longer supports the shift rods for the Borg Warner T10. So that kind of sucks.

    I got a 1962 Ford galaxie I need the spring on the outside of the shifter (it's by your hand at 7:20) where can I get one of these?

      We're sending the shifter off to Healy to have him redo it then when we go back into the car and reinstall the engine and transmission we will do a final setup

    Who is the manufacturer of these shifters? is it Borg Warner? Is it FoMoCo?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 месяца назад +1

      That is a Ford Motor Company shifter

      Hurst shifters are expensive, and try to find one for a Borg Warner T10 nearly impossible!

      @@AutoRestoMod I can understand that. I have a toploader. Positive stops on the shifter are nice as well.

      We have looked around for a Hurst shifter for 62 Galaxie T10 to replace ludicrously long throw of the stock shifter. Almost the same as 63-64 I believe? Unobtainable because of the odd 62-64 tail housing with huge relief cast in the tail housing for the shifter. To complicate matters even more,, we are adding a 63 console and buckets (in a 61 Sunliner). Comes up through the floor in correct spot for 63 console, but the throw of the 62 shifter is way too long for the console plate.
      Decided to hand build a mounting bracket for the T10 to enable a 68 Torino Hurst toploader shifter to bolt up and come through the console in the correct spot. The Hurst shifter main body is the same as all the Hurst Competition Plus shifters for most applications (also Mr. Gasket Hurst knockoffs..). Think we have that done.
      Next problem is shift rods are dramatically different between the factory 62 shifter and the modified 68 Torino Hurst toploader shifter. Shift rods for a Hurst shifter for 62-64 T1o are apparently not available either, so will have to modify the 68 Torino top loader shifter rods to make it work. Fingers crossed...
      But that is why people usually end up just resurrecting the old Ford factory shifter when they have a T10, even though they may prefer the Hurst and could afford a new Hurst. But again the Hurst does not have a shift rod kit available for a Ford 62-64 T10 either... So, it is a very big job to use anything but the Ford shifter, unless you swap out the T10 for a toploader and who knows where the shifter comes up through the console then?

    Too bad they're not including the blue boats ....Edsels, Starliners, late Fairlanes 57-61, Monterreys, Primers, or Canadian Meteors

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 года назад

      The Starliner would have possibly come with a 4 speed in 1960 and a 1/2. I think that is when the 4 speed was introduced into the full sized cars.
