- The song I chose for the AMV is about a pyramid scheme, where the romantic promises made by an Instagram startup later give way to the illegitimate nature of the company. It is a cycle of trust, deception, and betrayal that continues to recruit more and more people as time goes on.
I found this to be fitting for Desertduo in 3rd Life, considering that Grian found himself bound to Scar, a snake oil salesman with a charismatic wit and manner of action. Scar spends the season scamming their peers out of their shoes, loyalty, and later their lives, promising alliances and all sorts of treasures and trinkets.
Without realizing how attached he’d become, Grian was fooled by Scar’s romantic promises, ultimately being betrayed in the same manner Scar betrays everyone; with a charming smile and a playful gesture.
With it being Grian’s perspective looking back on 3rd Life, there’s a couple inconsistencies and missing/hidden details. I wonder if you can spot them :]

Haha. and then the explosion montage. with both the tnt and the no kill pass/friendship points papers. like. those literally are equally dangerous in scar’s hands. the sun once again staying still dead center something something certain things stay the same
grian’s face of terrifying pure joy when the tnt trap works.. and just reaching for the sun……. his EYES….. oh ohhhhhh i love your interpretation of him so much.
and then just STRAIGHT into total desperation trying to grab the no kill pass vs. scar’s gleeful expression as he’s about to KILL ONE OF HIS ALLIES. man. and how he’s smiling a little as he kills grian. ough im gonna be sick. the way grian’s red life heart dissipates in a similar way to scar’s green one. im ill.
the way that scar reaches out like it’s a hug as grian is lunging for hiim….. oh oh ohhh oh. oh. and even when grian has him pinned down and helpless. he’s smiling. AND THE POPPIES AND LILACS IN THE BACKGROUND OF THAT SCENE !!!! AHHHHHH
when theyre fighting. grian’s wild angry big movements vs scar’s smaller more planned fighting moves. and the way grian pauses to look him in the eyes before kicking him over the edge. haha. ha. haha.
the way that the paper airplane flies past as grian is taking scar’s last life life??? and then how scar’s once again reaching out open armed??? grian’s sharp sharp smile??? hhhhahahahahaha
and the paper airplane AGAIN… augh. augh. aughhhhh.
and in th final bit the way that grian’s grabbing impulse “take my hand through this magical land” the same way scar did to him……. Man. man.
THE ANIMATION IN THIS WHOLE VIDEO IS. FRANKLY. INSANE. i am in awe and shock and a little bit of fear of what you’ve managed here. the lighting. the expressions. the FIGHTING???? AND BACKGROUNDS??? ALL FULLY COLOURED??? you’re insane for this one man. and i LOVE IT. the storyline and the unreliable details from grian’s retelling…. im actually exploding. the little consistent themes, the way you’ve got each character’s personality shining through in EVERY single frame, god. you’re outdone yourself man. good job.

I am ASTOUNDED by the work put into this, everything is so cleanly animated and your acting and movement is to DIE FOR. I will never get over how much volume you animate with and all the little details, like Grian’s face wings expressing emotion. This whole project is absolutely gorgeous and I’m so so impressed with how it turned out!! I’ll definitely be watching it again and again!!!

Ok time for a longer comment because WOWOWOWOWOW
First of all, love the "unreliable narrator" being taken into animation. How Grian's recollection conveniently leaves out him leading the Creeper to Scar... leaving out the fact that Scar offered his surrender to him at the end... leaving out his jump off the mountain. And that Scar was actually the one to kill BDubs!
LOVE the kill pass being a paper airplane and its return in the scene with Grian taking a life from Scar in Last Life. A life for a life.
Scar's vehicles are awesome too and I overall adore your design for him. The little *punch punch* he does in the cactus ring oh my god.
And Grian is such a little CREATURE. I love his expressions and the absolutely stunning wings you drew.
This is seriously so cool. I'm gonna watch it like a thousand more times.

first of all, the fact that this absolute BEAST of an AMV is FULLY COLORED and EXTREMELY ANIMATED is absolutely insane, props to you.
the way you animated Grian tackling scar after being killed by him is so COOL, i love how he gets extremely aggressive and bird-like, it perfectly encapsulates what i think he would be feeling in that moment.
the way you designed everyone in the southlands + last life scar has me ROLLING i LOVE THEM. mumbo looks so scrungly and impulse looks SO cute with his little horns

This is incredible! The animation flows so well! The way their lives disappear, Scar killing Grian, and him returning, the transition to last life, with the changing alliances, and all the movements, are so cool!
You are crazy for this. You are so so crazy for this. The animation is so smooth AND FULL COLOR and the amount of details that give them so much character and the transition between story points? Phenomenal. And don't let me start on the fight scenes. Oh i'll be coming back to this so often.

Grian's design is amazing. His entire character can express emotion from his eye's shape to the way his teeth look. And the action shots are so smooth I have to rewatch them over and over in amazement. It is awesome. Hope you continue to the other life seasons.

holy shit this animation!! I'm such a sucker for animation like this when it almost feels like even very low framerate makes it smoother than it would be otherwise. It's finally out!! Proud of you man! It's felt like you've been working on this forever, I loved when you dropped WIPs in the discord chat and now that it's finally here it's amazing! I still love the way you draw Grian's wings and the expressions and body language and everything WOW! This is sooo so cool! The only thought I could describe this in my brain was just a positive keyboard smash a good ol AKDJFHFYDUSHFYSUF!! Anyways everything so well animated too, once again so cool and proud of you! This is an incredible animation - the movements are so fluid and the transitions are so stunning!
Since you mentioned deliberate inconsistencies, here are the ones I spotted:
Only Scar was near the creeper explosion when animated, but during Third Life Grian led the creeper to a whole group of people - this sequence also portrays Grian as more passive in the event, not taking as active a role as he did in Third Life itself
In Third Life, Bdubs was the one to kill Grian, but in this animation, Scar did.
In the Last Life scene where Grian and Joel bargain for lives from Scar, Scar isn't shown at all, which isn't exactly an inconsistency but still something I wanted to point out.
This is all to say I am definitely going to revisit this animation again!

AAAAAA !!! i think one of my favorite details is at 1:37 the lyrics, "and so are YOU." sync up to grian's mouth animation and AAAA. it just helps show how angry he was, especially with the your incredible animation!! i love this video!! it's definitely one i'll be watching over and over. I love the way you showed Grain after his death to scar!! The way he came after BDubs and Scar like a bat out of hell! It looked so cool
Grian is so immensely terrifying by his laughs in this but at the same time it's quite strangely satisfying. He was also quite terrifyingly wild when he turned red but then again it's also enlightens my imagination so much more with that light from Grian's glowing vermilion eyes. And Scar, he was amazingly and surprisingly so calm and happy. He looked so disappointed at 1:31 but then a second later, his expression changes to the look of betrayal that he is glad about doing. That was one of the parts that made my heart skip a beat. I love this animatic. He was also the one who was just going to die over not even until episode 8 of 3rd Life. But thanks to Grian, we got to see just how lucky and interesting the two can be together till the end. Everything about this animatic was amazingly satisfying. So incredible and it's possibly the best 3rd life animatic from how detailed and colorful it is. No matter what series comes our way, each story will be different and interestingly incredible in their own way. And everyone should subscribe to you right now because of how well you have done. It's absolutely incredible. My mind is blown from seeing this. It's amazing. You're amazing. I can't stop actively talking or immensely thinking about the good things about this.
