It probably sounds like a guitar without frets on it.
+Vow of Volition you don't say
really?
This guy gets it.
Fuckin call nasa, we have a genius here. :o
How to write like: Rob Chapman with a fret less guitar
Would it be possible to do a demonstration of the guitar without any distortion?
Jason Collins the eternal question
marpsr I can only assume they aren't to proud of how it sounds clean, understandably to, seeing as it must be near impossible to play in tune.
I just assumed it's because that's what so many people do anyways. They can be played in tune by a skilled player such as Adrian Belew. Check King Crimson/Man With An Open Heart.
Thanks for the reference, the effect of the fret-less guitar is much easier to hear in that; it sounded like there was even some skilled micro-tonal melody in there.
the puppet lol wat his tone sounds like straight butt
How To : Eliminate Fret Buzz
6 months old but fuck it:
Introducing the Neck Buzz.
Yea
make a fretted violin xD
violins sound shit anyway, no point adding frets
Joe I take offense as a violinist
As ling ling i do not approve of this idea, practice 40 hours and you dont need frets for guitar or violin
Check out Wood Violins.
@@lily-vt8ic Fellow TwoSetViolin follower!
I could really see somebody like Steve Vai just going nuts with this guitar! Sounds cool and I bet it's fun to play \m/
MetalJesusRocks MetalJesus!
+MetalJesusRocks Hey Metaljesus! How have you been?
+MetalJesusRocks yeah, looks like a new experience... i got a cheap guitar with dodgy frets i might see if i can get it done at some point if i can afford it
Never get anything cheap in this guitar playing unless you want to upgrade
+MetalJesusRocks I think I remember Steve Vai using a guitar with 4 necks one of which was fretless.
This guitar poses no fret..
MrWolf154 get out
Rayene Boussetta are you frettening me?
Don't fret MrWolf154, he's just a sad and plastic nut.
MrWolf154 very witty 😁😀😂
MrWolf154
You shouldn't fret it...
I am essentially still wondering what a fretless electric guitar sounds like.
Sounds like a regular guitar

actually this is what a distortion pedal sounds like...
no you don't
when? [Aw, you edited it to make sense :(]
Was just about to say the same ! Bet it would sound terrible clean !!
hahahahaha! ; D
It's actually what gain on a tube amp sounds like. CHapman barely uses pedals.
I'd love to see this guitar plugged into the Hatsune Miku pedal.

Propane is love, Propane is life
Okay okay, I got it: fretless guitar with some weird amount of strings, Miku pedal, played with a slide and an E-Bow, tuned crazy, with a talk box and a wah-wah.
What about the sustain? Is it possible to play "long notes" like Gary Moore? I think fretless is more related to bass guitar.
Maybe not on a neck made completely out of wood like this one but check out Vigier Excalibur Fretless Guitar on youtube. Its fretboard is made entirely out of metal from top to bottom so it should have a pretty decent sustain. Kinda like having an infinite number of frets
EnigmaBlue
That’s really easy to get. The cello could be used as a way to practice playing w/o frets . In addition, by bowing it one has infinite sustain AT THE VOLUME you start with , with option to change it at any point by pressing down or lightening your grip on the bow. Bow pressure, which cellists use to keep a consistent sound for long durations and at high volume, is definitely something you can’t do with an Ebow which uses laser technology, not physical contact.
just wanted to say im revisiting the channel for the first time in 5 years or so, this was my childhood
thankyou
Seems like I will just have to keep wondering...
Chapman guitars should make a headless guitar and call it the Chapstick.....budum tssss
I'd buy it
how would you tune it?

You guys are awesome. Funny and relaxed. Good work.
That was by far the best video of yours, pure fun, randomness and enjoyment came from your artsy self
Soooo, I'm probably the only one idiotic enough to suggest this, but I have to say it. Scalloped fretless guitar.
That topic's been discussed. Read comments below. :0)
Thank you.
No problem Brad. I left some other links for websites about fretless guitars spread around the comments, you may enjoy checking them out as well.
***** I've done it with my strat, and i found it easier not to bend the string, but to slide the string from side to side.
***** No, slide your fingers up and down the neck it makes a cool sound instead of bending.
Give it to Guthrie, he'll make that baby sing.
Or Seasick Steve for that matter. Both of them are utterly amazing!
True he wasn't really utilizing the fretless at all. Kinda wanted a showcase of that rather than his traditional showboating quick runs. (Not that i don't enjoy those but not really relevant on a fretless demo)
this is hilarious because i dont care at all what it sounds like with distortion. i just wanted to know what it sounded like clean and they didn't play clean for even a second.
its his intonation, fretless instruments require pinpoint accuracy
ruclips.net/video/Uc4CZxqhCJc/видео.html I think fretless is more effective with microtones, this is an amazing song, there is fretless solo guitar clean and drive was played creator of fretless guitar Erkan Oğur, from Turkey.

This is a fun video. A really enjoyed watching you guys having a good time messing around, getting some licks in. Good stuff!
Is that guitar tuned to drop Q?
I believe it's in drop log10^3/5
Liam Wade Its a detuned ABASI tuning
Liam Wade Wrong Rob, friend
Liam Wade it's tuned to drop FUCK
+Liam Wade It's tuned to drop IQ. Actually, most of Chapman's videos are.
Guthrie did it, with Vigier, several years back. where were you?
Jamming with Guthrie... where were you?
Vigier have been making the fretless guitars since '89, long before Guthrie. The first big name to use a fretless guitar (a defretted strat) was Zappa in the mid to late 70's. This was then disseminated to his pupils with Below, Vai and others carrying it over. Vai used fretless on the Roth album and a fretless seven on Passion and Warfare.
A lot of Jazz players use fretless guitars as well to get a more gypsy feel as you can get closer to fretless oud's and so on.
The main problem with a steel strung fretless is that if you for get an bend one of the unwound strings it can snap back and really hurt. This seems to be compunded by the metal fingerboard on the Vigier.
Rob Chapman get reckt kid ooooooh MLG
Rob Chapman Sure you were Rob, sure you were..... Ron Thal does some excellent fretless playing though, certainly worth listening to.
Steve Vai has RECORDED fretless - years ago.
I mean it sounds like a guitar with distortion.
I love this channel! Helps me consider guitars I’ll probably never buy! It’s still fun to watch the banter.
I wan't to hear a scalloped fretless guitar now
AnotherGuyOnRUclips hum...you do understand that these would be impossible?
Congratz, you got the joke.
burny6666 not really, some medieval string instruments actually worked this way
An apostrophe on want? Really???
+beatles7798 *wan't
I was bored one day in the mid 80's and decided to pull the frets out of an old Ovation Breadwinner that I'd stripped the white paint off of. Carefully filled the fret slots with some strips of walnut... been playing fretless guitar on & off for close to 30yrs now. You have to use flatwound strings if you don't want to chew up the fingerboard. Also I read since the walnut strips aren't as dense as the original fret tangs it's best to tune it to a lower pitch than concert, otherwise there's too much compression and the neck will bow quickly. I'll go as low as a low C on the 6th string with thicker strings (.013-.056). An alternative is to just file the frets until they're flat to the fingerboard (not my preference). Or as some bass players do (i.e. Jaco); put epoxy on the fingerboard to use round wound strings. With some practice your pitch will get better. One disadvantage is that you're typical chord shapes will become somewhat limited.... but it forces you into new harmonic(chord) directions as well. it's worth having the exotic sound of a fretless imho.
filing the frets won't work well at all. the tangs have barbs in them, so there will be gaps where the barb has compressed the wood, etc.
I defretted an old bass guitar, and I did it by pulling the frets, filling the slots with bondo (overfilled a bit), and sanding it back smooth with a radius block I made (using the neck as a form, before the bondo). I then painted on several coats of CA (super glue), and wet sanded it up to 2000 grit. It's not going to be quite as durable as epoxy, but it's pretty tough, and much cheaper and easier to apply. You can't use cheap epoxy, btw, but conventional CA glue seems to work just great. (I used loctite brand)
Also, I was shooting for something (very) vaguely like the sound of a stand up bass, so I got some nylon wrapped strings (rotosound 88). I quite like them, and they're much easier on the board as well.
also, your fretboard shouldn't need to contribute that much to keeping your neck straight... That's what the trussrod is for. ;)
nwimpney Filling the frets has worked well for me. Every luthier I know offers this option when converting to fretless.
I didn't go into every detail in my comment. A couple of the things I didn't mention.... I glued the walnut in and helped fill the space mixing the glue (super glue for wood) with sawdust to fill any spaces left by the barbs.. and put more of the glue in w/ a syringe. I also sanded the fingerboard with a wood block of the same radius (after having carefully sliced most of the excess hardwood with my wood carving tools). I've tried the black tape/nylon wound strings, still use them from time to time. But I like the thicker steel strings for a different tone. And they sound better on this instrument tuned down usually 1/2 to a whole step. Sometimes lower for more of that bass tone you're talking about. I kept it tuned to concert pitch for the first 18 to 20 years, without any neck problems other than more truss adjustment than it used to need. Drastic weather changes where I live too. But I was also using an .010 on the high E. I got the idea of tuning lower in the last 8 to 10 years... mostly because of listening to John Stowell playing fretless guitar and using lower tunings. I had read an article by Dan Erlewine about tuning lower if you're using wooden inserts, so I thought it prudent to mention. Annnd,,, the neck on my guitar is incredibly thin (for me). But 30 years and it still plays fine! Take care.
I meant filing (with a file), as in cutting them down with a file, leaving the tangs in the slot. I think that's really ugly, and a bad way to do it. Filling the slots, yes. :)
Honestly, I think one would be better off just leaving the slots empty than leaving the rough fret tangs in the slots. A lot of fret slots are cut with a very slight V at the top too, to better clear the usually-imperfect corner between the tang and the bottom of the fret, so that'll leave an exposed rough edge if it's just filed/sanded off.
I think the wood inserts needing you to tune lower is probably insignificant on anything with a reasonable truss rod. With a very slim neck, you might notice, and have to give the rod a slight tweak. With a beefier neck, I doubt you would even see a difference.
If you have a weird neck with a non adjustable, or non-existant rod, I might be worried about bowing, but otherwise I wouldn't sweat it.
That's not to say there isn't some merit to down tuning, either. I actually noticed that my short scale bass has an interesting tone, due to the lower tension on the strings. Contrary to what I've heard a lot of people suggest, I've found that I get a much heavier, chunkier sound on a short scale and/or lighter strings. Playing down-tuned on a normal long-scale is probably going to give you the same chunkyness at a lower pitch. Heavier gauge and longer scale lengths seem to be a bit brighter and more piano-like in comparison.
The question is why?
that sounds bad ass guys, nice job guys
I can't believe how fucking easy he makes it look. it's soooooo uncomfortable playing one of these for the first time, but it is goddamn fun trying
For anybody wanting to do this, make sure that you do slides instead of bends whenever possible if you want to preserve the fret board. Especially softer finger boards will get pretty chewed up from playing, but you can coat it with epoxy to increase the durability. Epoxy also makes the notes sound more glassy than a wood board.
This is whats happening to my frettless bass, scratch marks from bends. Thanks for the epoxy tip.
KillSwitch66627 on a bass you're supposed to use flat wound strings
***** No. If you like the sound of rounds you should use rounds.
No, if you like round wounds you should buy a fretted bass
KillSwitch66627
You can also use superglue. It's not as tough as epoxy, but the right kind of epoxy is $$$. You can't use the 5 minute stuff from the hardware store because it'll turn yellow and weak from light, etc.
Not sure if youtube will eat imgur links, but imgur.com/mXrdv7V is a pic of my superglue job on my bass neck, wet sanded to 2000 grit IIRC. I did it a while ago, so I don't remember exact details, but I think I just painted on a few coats (use a brush, not paper towels. It can catch fire!) then sanded it smooth, repeat until shiny. :) It's ordinary loctite brand super glue. I think I went through about 2 bottles.
I love how they say "It's not in tune." The truth is they are not PLAYING in tune. Not a problem with the guitar. The problem is they aren't used to having to stop the string in precisely the right spot to play the pitch spot on, because the frets do that for you and take the work out of it. Playing fretless is NOT EASY. Ask any classical string player.
well, they probably need to check the tuning and intonation. The intonation is probably _way_ off unless they lowered the nut most of the way to the fretboard.
They're not playing it well, either, but the setup is definitely important, even on a fretless.
I find playing fretless way easier. I started on cello though. Frets make noise and fretmarks on the neck are more confusing than a clean neck IMO.
Me being a classical string player (Violin, Cello, and Piano (Because Pianos are also classical stringed instruments), I have to say playing fretless is actually pretty easy. You just have to memorize the spots. You can start with putting tapes where the pitch spot is, and then after a while, take them off.
I don't think they actually understand how to approach a fretless guitar. Their stock licks and runs won't work. If you've never played a fretless before, start off slowly and make sure your fingers are where they need to be to hit correct pitches. These guys don't even tune the instrument. They're in a music store, surely there's a tuner around! This video does NOT show you how a fretless guitar sounds. The title is a misnomer.
I understand it this that they're saying its out of tune what they are playing and didn't mean the guitar. The could've tuned this instantly s. I think they actually meant their own playing.
I love your videos! This ones very entertaining. I've bought a jet club from your website last week and am waiting for it to be in stock. Super excited! Hopefully one day soon I'll be able to play like you guys! Rock on!
It's really Really REALLY fun!
As a violin player, I would love to play a fretless guitar
I make all my instruments myself (mostly 1,2 or 3 string... Things) and I never fret any of them, they work good enough for what I do.
Joseph rivas Haha, they sound really fucking useless to be honest.
Michael Townsly they're the disposable forks and spoons of the instrument world, they're use cases are limited and they fall apart but hey, when your broke you take what you can get.
Give it a try. You'd probably catch on quick. Check out these sites for more info if you like: www.unfretted.com/loader.php?LINK=main
fretlessguitarlessons.com/en/ They're good places to start anyhow...
You can purchase a fretless classical guitar made in Germany. It's not a special item at all. Something around $250 can get you one.
I swear Rob had a Skyrim shirt on
+Pokefan731 he did it was the imperial logo
SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS
nah fam i am no nord i am an orc
I am a Khajit lol
lel idk why but i rlly like the way orcs are set up via the power it is good for low levels (the power is you take less dmg and deal more dmg for a short amount of time)
Damn, I imagine sliding on it feels awesome
Play some chords without distortion, man. It is not that hard
kind of is on a fretless
Agreed everyone uses distortion way to much
Not to sound like a jerk but on a fretless the note dies almost instantly without any distortion, at least it does on a wood fretboard
geetar is life this man is right, orchestral instruments have sustain with bows. We have to use drive and distortion to get sustain
LordPolitoed yes! Finnaly
This is what it's like to work in a guitar store.
gazm2k5 this is what it's like to own your own guitar company lol
I worked at Guitar Center...you're preaching to the choir. You don't work at G.C. you suffer.
Poor baby.
Crimson Guitars for your Custom guitar needs....I have no doubt that Ben Crowe would figure out your 'ghost fret' idea
At what price though, haha.
I meant as a consultation for the ghost fret idea...they may be able to think of a better manufacturing method ......of course getting a custom hand made guitar would be an expensive option...having said that a custom hand made guitar at £3,000 will get you a far better instrument than spending the same on something like a Gibson
Amazing luthier with tons of talent.
Absolutely, I've been watching his stuff for ages now....his guitars look incredible.....id love to visit his workshop sometime
theres tons of other extremely talented luthiers out there.
Cool! I want this guitar!
I actually really like some of the sounds of this guitar and love the doomy power chords. Maybe a guitar concept for just a select few of us ;-)
sounds like sat morning at guitar center. cool vid.
I laughed when he played the Sweet Child O Mine intro. I've been playing guitar for 20+ years, and it's still the first riff I play when I pick up a guitar.
burny6666 Yeah, and I laughed at the other guys reaction. :)
for me its a bit compulsive, whenever I touch a guitar, I have a sudden urge to play Sweet Child Of Mine
+V10 FSI o' mine*
I really like how it sounds
These guys are totally my kind of crew. Peace's shredders.
Why the hell has it become some kind of a shitty trend to use distortion, when giving an example of how a guitar sounds?! I mean seriously, play it without any effects so we can hear what the guitar ACTUALLY sounds like. Pretty much any video about how a particular guitar sounds, the person playing it has the distortion cranked all the way up... bloody annoying.
Aaron-Christopher Hogan So criticism is not allowed these days?
+aDotFromTheFuture He's criticizing the criticism genius
Andrew Stewart How the hell was that criticism? The first part was an insult, and the second part was just utterly pointless, i.e. not criticism.
+aDotFromTheFuture nope. I feel you bro. and about Aaron yes...oh the Irony
Nobody is going to play a boss ass guitar like that clean... He's just being realistic.
Is it me or does it sound like the distortion is too high
it might be a little fizzy
The feedback was insane, lol. Similar sound to the one time I turned up the gain all the way on my amp, and then plugged in a boss distortion pedal and decided to max it out.
I've been sniffing round the Vigier Surfreter for a while now cos I love the fretless effect, but they're a huge way out of my budget range. Are any of these ones available round the 500 to 700 quid mark?
that actually sounds pretty clean
Everyone saying Govan is the only guy that can actually play a fretless. They'd be right. I really wish more people took the time to figure it out though, the rock industry would be forever changed (and probably slightly out of tune)
Bumblefoot ( Ron Thal ) is also famous for using one ( Vigier sutom double neck )
***** Yes but the musicianship in classical music is far higher to most rock bands.
Tom Fountainhead plays a fretless almost exclusively.
MrAntihumanism David Fiuczynski plays one too.
Fretless would probably now be a norm for rock because your average rock guy would not be capable of playing in tune. I think it should be left to your above average rock guys and to jazz guys and such.
Sounds really cool, I love the way Guthrie Govan uses them too!
Wow-what a difference in not having a fretted neck makes in the unbound sounds of the guitar, it's just totally mind-blowing almost frenzied sound!
How do you make the note jump the extra octave at 1:26 ? That's a technique I've been trying to find the name of, if anyone can reply that please, thank you!
That riff at 1:15 sounds very Alter Bridge
Yeah I always thought dorje sounded a bit like AB
If you didn't know, that's from one of the songs by Rob's band Dorje. The song is called Too Weak
I thought it was just because I've been listening to The Last Hero non-stop since its release! But you're right.
Only Guthrie Govan can play that thing right, otherwise it's just a fun toy, not a musical instrument, IMHO. I'll stick with slide on my pinky.
Bumblefoot can also manage himself with one.
Andy Birger And also Fountainhead, the new guitarist for Obscura.
WeIsDaTyrantz Obscura
steve vai did a tune with a double neck, and one of the necks was fretless.
Nonsense.
I have a fretless and now when I play a normal guitar, it gets frustrating how these little metal bars are hindering my expression.
Why would a violin or a cello be an instrument but not a fretless guitar? _Just_ 'cause of the rounded neck?
An old bucket can be a musical instrument.
My fretless definitely is a musical instrument and it makes sounds your guitar can't.
These guys have not been practicing for years on one.
There are so many cool things you can do, like droning while sliding notes around under the drone, doing "bends" that no guitar could do, w/out a tremolo bar (which would also effect the droning note)...and you can't apply a slide just to the b string while other strings ring out.
And you do artificial harmonics, but can then slide them around and it sounds exactly like a theremin, only way easier to control.
holy shit... sounds great.
the guitarist in my band has his own fretless. and it sounds beautiful when he uses it live!
He needs those frets back.
y Play-Doh
Wow that's awesome! Can't imagine what it would be like to play a guitar without frets. Must feel weird....
I miss these classic days ❤️
I did the same thing once while I was waiting for the new fretwire to arrive. Was fun to play around, but after a while you want your frets back :-)
Stick with frets. Not you personally, but for anybody concerned about control. No matter how precise one's fingers get, an actual fret is more precise. There will be unintended off-notes. Just my opinion though, I'm sure some appreciate the distinct sound.
Ever heard of Tom Geldschläger aka Fountainhead? He has perfect pitch and plays like a supernatural being.
WhiteSaucage Scar Never heard of him, but I did just check him out. He's quite amazing actually. But I would not say his pitch is perfect. It is extremely accurate but listening for it, I could hear slight off pitch on occasion. Now, I'm not complaining. I was quite impressed actually, but he uses the lack of the fret's precision to his advantage, perhaps by making transitions smoother. I guess what I'm saying is that if one requires absolute precision, one should use frets. Otherwise, it can still sound great without, as in Fountainhead, and I'm sure others too.
Yeah I prefer fretted instruments aswell, fretless is just a novelty and a great challenge, it also helps with hand posture :)
GW Bits There's no need. Violins don't have frets.
GW Bits But the same cannot be said for a fretless guitar. Nobody needs to put frets on a guitar, but there must be a reason that guitars have virtually always had frets throughout its history. The evolution of musical instruments seems to match fretless with bows, and frets with strumming or picking. Of course, the stand up bass is an exception, because it really does sound cool without frets. :)
Love the Elder Scrolls Shirt
Where can I get that slide open door for the truss rod? That is cool.
I was thinking of getting a fretless guitar and using it as a slide guitar. Do you think it would work well for that?
Looks to me like Rob was visiting the booger sugar in this vid
"So you could play your chords, and then you could *woahaaaazabueagh* on the lead"
Can you do more of this, sounded awesome?
What gauge do you guys use? I personally like 9 46s the best.. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky Cobalts
guys, i played in one guitar like this from a friend, and the sensation is completely crazy, i mean, ITS CRAZY, normally you feel the frets and the sound scaling with them, but, without them your brain will burn,
looks like play a HUGE violin (or cello).
play guitar without frets is something like, ride a motorcicle without helment. (i feel naked)
Dat Skyrim shirt made me emotional
Haha , so cool I try it!
Did you ever post the video where you were talking about the modifications that you were talking about in the beginning. Looked through both this channel and the Anderton's channel around the time this was posted and couldn't find it
That thing is cool looking, with a bit of practice that guitar could take you places
scotty To go places, I still prefer a car or an airplane. Or maybe sometimes a bike.
burny6666 You sir, are the sarcasm king.
Juan Pablo Rivera I think you just dethroned me.
Ouch.
that's crazy. I was just thinking about what it would sound like it he played Sweet Child O mine and he played the intro! Ahh!
ikr
funniest outro to any of your vids lmao
what's the best strings are for a fretless guitar? got regular slinkys on there at the moment but the sustain is next to none existent
they shouldve at least tuned it before demonstrating it.. the low E string was very off tune
+dan428 It was in tune, it was just in a different tuning.
+CineManiacs 3:45 "It's not in tune but, it'd be really cool if it was" they said it themselves and again at
4:16 "It's completely out of tune" perhaps you didn't watch the full video or your idea of it being in tune is completely different from the guys playing in the video. I agree with dan428 though.
Its in drop A. The guy above is an idiot.
+56madguy Perfect drop A? Would they want it in drop A? If I wanted to play in drop D and it was in drop C, that's out of tune in my perspective of wanting drop D.
+dan428 I believe the guy saying it's out of tune is the one who doesn't shred and likes everything standard "The way god intended" This is indeed downtuned so it wasn't really The "E" string anymore
What does a fret less guitar sound like? Always slightly out of tone.
That's what i would use for a kind of experimental metal.
Freedom! Love it.
Just sounds like a regular guitar out of tune.
+Foxayo look up guthrie govan, he actually knows what hes doing when playing
+Foxayo he said it was out of tune when he was playing it.
What the fuck did you expect? Sounds of a harmonica?
As a violinist, I don't feel that this would be a huge difference lol. plus, he is vibratoing wrong, it should be sliding up and down the neck, not sideways. And I hope that thing has flatwounds lol.
It looks like it has an ebony fingerboard, so I think he could get away with using roundwounds. Jaco Pastorius used them with a rosewood fingerboard, but he would practice on another bass to avoid chewing up the fingerboard. Some fretless bass players use roundwounds because it's easier to get certain sounds with them, but there is some risk of excessive fingerboard wear.
SiliconBassist Modern hard coatings mean it's possible to use round without worrying about wear, Jaco didn't use particularly good epoxy, it was really meant for boats.
SiliconBassist I've got a fretless bass with some kind of faux ebony plasticy kind of stuff. It's really tough and hasn't shown much wear at all over the past two years, and it was made in 2007 and I got it secondhand.

Is it ebonol?
SiliconBassist I think so.
I pulled the frets out on my first electric guitar. I was into Adrian Belew, Jaco Pastorious and John Frusciante had just done a fretless solo on "Mellowship Slinky".
"Big Electric Cat" & "Man with an open heart" are fretless guitar songs from Adrian. (Check out his "Electronic Guitar video from DCI)
And of course Jaco's wonderful tone and his butter knife story made me give it a try.
It was cool for about three songs and I was over it.
Now that guitar has a scalloped fretboard which I like very much!
Can you tell me where to find that Jimi t-shirt that guy has? Thanks!
Now how bad does it sound without distortion?
Congrats. Sounds like garbage.
Problem because the guitars low end and... chapman isn't a fret less player
AimlessMoto It's, frankly, a completely different instrument.
AimlessMoto Its not even on tune you dumbass :D
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man
TheRuoka IN tune you dumbass :D
Wait so if there aren't any frets for the string to meet with are your fingers meeting with the fretboard?
Sounds good,
That dude reminds me of Jonah Hill in Superbad.
am i the only one that kinda hates the intro?
i do as well, way to long and annoying
i hate that too and its overly loud...
Its when I know a video is cancerous, I don't normally look at the uploaders name on a video so ill just click on it. when this abomination of an intro comes on I immediately close the tab
Yea, just fuck the intro, skip randomly to like 2:00 minute mark. End of worry
Yes
Bartell of California had a fretless guitar back in 1972. I tried one out for a frustrating 3 minutes at Ted Vesley's Guitar in Las Vegas,Nv. In 1980,the jazz group,Kittyhawk also defretted a Les Paul for 3 albums.
Great video man, just imagine what Tom Morello could cook up with this! Aaaaaand yes I'm gonna make one :-)
Seeing people doing pitch bends and vibrato on a fretless instrument kills me.
The very beauty of the electric guitar in all it's guises is that you can do whatever you like on it, fretted or otherwise. Sounds like you need to go back and tell Paganini off for using improper technique on the violin. Yes, it isn't the best technique and can ruin the fretboard but it creates a sound that is unique and outside of what you would expect. I am sure given a few months with the guitar they would alter their technique but time and time again the stuffy classical ideals have proven to be boundaries and limits to creativity.
The difference is that Paganini knew what he was doing.
Jonathan Keeler Two words JK - Metronome, bro. It's also a bit rich that you commented on vibrato when you don't appear to use it ... ever.
Oh wow, attack the person not the argument. I'm a 'cellist so yes, I can use vibrato, however when i'm just doing youtube covers of 'spawn of possession', you can imagine that it is not my first priority,
You can't argue shit when you know nothing about the practical applications man. Go practice, experience life - then come back and rip on every one.
What amp should I get? Vox AD50VT, Orange Micro Terror or Bugera V22? I'm Looking for a good rock sound and I don't know which one is best.
I'm Looking more for an Hard Rock sound but I overall want an amp to sound good for any kind of rock music and sometimes maybe some metal. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro guitar.
Or maybe I should save more for an better amp?
Thanks for the answer!
MrMyKamilsz the bugera vintage 22. I have one. I use it for session and live settings. It has a great clean channel and sounds great with an overdrive in front of it. Super simple amp so you can learn and dial in a good tone.
save for the silverback ::) and you'll be good for everything ^^ but its pricey and in that kind of pricerange you have tons of options for something really nice.....the bugera is the only full tube amp so for the money you want to spent its not bad at all :) there is no real high gain so if you want to play some metal stuff you want some nice distortian pedal..i personally was never happy with transistor amps but if i had to choose between those 3 i would probably go for micro terror with a 1+12 speaker...it sounds amazing for home using..and its kinda cheap.. if you want something better :) you would be better off with saving more money. if you are looking for some nice amp to use at home i can highly recommend to check out the roland cube amps :) they sound amazing too ...i can't aggree with Dr DJ on the orange micro terror :) i like those little boxed very much ^^
What did you use to fill in the Frets after you took them out?
I'd love to try this, could integrate quarter steps into your music without trying having to try to bend for it and imagine the vibrato you could get!
This is not what a fretless guitar can sound like. It's what a fretless guitar sounds like played as though it had frets, with lots of distortion to boot. Not informative.
Regardless, it's still a fret-less guitar. Why assume it's supposed to be informative? It doesn't say it anywhere in the title. It even says in the description "This is a totally spontaneous & pointless video!".
Look up "Consider the Source"... the guitar player has a 2 neck guitar, one of which is fretless
Fuck you
Not only that, but in non standard drop tuning - this is not an improvement. Why on earth did you not use standard tuning and actually play something instead of noodling around out of key?
Distortion doesn't hide a deviations from just intonation IMO, but it exposes them, because the subtones and beats that are created with distortion are much more sensitive to the tuning than the undistorted notes.
it's like a circumsized guitar
What's the model of the red guitar the guy on the right was holding?
Anyone know where I can find this but w/o the shredding?
