      Nobody is able to write a master piece at this level of complexity today (even using AI ;) )

      @@floriandevuyst so true man. Bach had the best understanding of counterpoint.

    I can play this piece on harpsichord, but I envy how calm and controlled your execution is.
    In the ricercar a 6, each finger is summoned to full attention, so I usually feel the piece is playing ME.

    Great performance, David! There aren't enough organ recordings of this Ricercar. I can't imagine how much time and energy it took Bach to write something like this...

      Well the whole Musical Offering was published about 2 months after Back was given the theme iirc. So in other words, he wrote the work in less time then most people spend studying it.

    Nice to see mechanical couplers on a modern organ.

      It can be seem moving because there are no counterweights on the back of Keyes.

    Rumor has it that Gould, if his organ Art of Fugue recordings were a success, was going to do the Musical Offering as well. But the reviews of his AoF on the organ were so bad, he never even completed the AoF, and never recorded on the organ again.

    Frederich the great challenged Bach to improvise a 6 voice figue from the same theme.

    • @m.r.5990
      @m.r.5990 3 года назад +1

      And he said a six voice fugue needs a proper preparation. So he wrote the "musical offering" and send it to the king Frederich. This piece is a part of that offering. It's a response to the challenge. Wikipedia ==> "The Musical Offering"

      @@m.r.5990 you are right.
      Bach did decline to improvise the 6 voice figue on the same theme on the spot, saying to Frederick that he needs the time to properly prepare and work out the musical score and would send it to him later on.

    The organ case is totally unsympathetic with the surrounding architecture. What the hell were they thinking?

    • @uriahpeep9036
      @uriahpeep9036 6 лет назад +1

      The same thing was done at Notre-Dame cathedral........a very cheap-looking light wood casing replaced the original casing. You can observe it on videos of Olivier Latrey at the console.......it looks hideous and totally out of place with the surrounding architecture.

      that is exactly what I was thinking. it just clashes horribly. I was never a fan of contemporary styles anyway, Gothic is the only style a church and its instruments should be

      The Vatican II sect have no love for holiness or beauty. They claim to follow Christian traditions, yet they take an insufferable pride in their own ugly innovations. The St Pierre website says it all: "We wanted the organ to be an extension of the architectural surroundings WHILE AFFIRMING ITS MODERN ORIGIN." These fake Catholics idolize 'modernity'.
