    Jubilatoire!!!

Brilliant! Shows a deep knowledge on how JSB composed his partite. I must admit I was reluctant to listen to a Hauptwerk organ, but I am happy to have overcome my reluctance. Good job :)

Jesu, meine Freude! BWV 227 One of JSB's best motets.

An amazing and brilliant performance by Mr. Cassan. It's also an excellent demonstration of the Arlesheim sample set. Joerg Glebe continues to be the gold standard for Internet organ videos.

This is Baroque improvisation of a very high order indeed- not just Baroque pastiche but identifiably J.S Bach's style, something that very few improvisers really achieve. Even fewer can achieve a genuinely contrapuntal trio with 4ft Cantus Firmus in the pedal. Each variation adopts a systematic and consistent form of established Baroque variation technique. Phrases are characterful and very well shaped, rather than with the fluent but rather aimless figuration that one so often hears. Just about everything is very focussed and structured with strong patterns that enhance character and memorability; also length is almost perfectly judged for the content. One can think of a lot of written music from established Baroque composers that is a lot less accomplished and interesting.
One slight qualifications might be that overall, the improvisation is perhaps just a little too hard driven. On a few occasions the counterpoint becomes slightly convoluted with some playing untidiness, amid textures that are maybe just too busy; for example from around 11'.00". The tempo in the variation from 5':20" has hints of instability too. Slightly slower tempi in some variations with more chance for phrases to breathe would provide more 'thinking time' and enhance both compositional and performance aspects of the music. Nevertheless, hindsight in even the absolute finest of improvisations will always reveal some elements of weakness. Absolute perfection across all parameters is virtually impossible to achieve.
The St Alban's 1st Prize winner of 2014 delivers something of real maturity and insight, and considerably beyond most Baroque pastiches; impeccable performance technique too. Very good sound and visuals. Please let us have plenty more from David Cassan, of whom I am sure that we will hear a lot more in the future!

John Riley Has certainly said it all and then some! He must be an accomplished organist also. In what city is Joerg Glebe's Hauptwerk organ located? It would seem to be the premier virtual organ in the world.

A wonderful performance on a tremendous instrument! I am wondering how the audio was made. Was it done with microphones set up in the room, or was it done through a direct plug-in to the computers controlling the organ? Just curious.
