    I run my roller over the ruler before I lift it out. That gets most of the diamonds through and I can just lift it straight off. Any that are left stuck I just push through with my pen as I'm lifting it off.

    I originally started doing the paintings w/ out using the ruler or a light. The rows are not straight, but once they light is turned off, you really can't tell. I did finally get a ruler and I have had 3 of them break. I find one that was a bit different and I love it. Instead of placing diamonds all the way across a row, there are some you place and others you do not until the ruler is taken up. I also found it a lot more sturdy than the ones that broke.

    Honestly, there is allot of tools in your kitchen cupboards you can use. I use different Tupperware products I had for years to move the stones in place. I also save allot of my old plastic covering from old paintings and cover the new ones as I work on it. I found that using all these tools takes the fun and challenges out of doing diamond paintings.

    I did the exact same thing as you and got my ruler thing super late into the painting. I figured out if you just lay the ruler on top of the already placed diamonds it helps you get them all even. Also a tip from a newbie I learned if you lay the first row of the ruler over the last row of 8 rows you did, then all your diamonds will stay even with each other. I’ve learned amazon’s 5d paintings aren’t exactly stamped straight, cut straight, and diamonds can be super small or to big so it’s easier to line your ruler off that last row, lay it back down over the last row and continue on. You can actually easily lay the ruler back down over the diamonds so you can easily lay it over the diamonds towards the top of your painting where your ruler didn’t reach and all will be OCD heaven. Lol. I totally get it, I have horrid ocd and absolutely hate uneven rows, odd numbers, and it’s so bad I will count how many diamonds I need of what number/letter/symbols and will pick out that many diamonds to put in my tray. I cannot stand not knowing how many diamonds I have in my trays at all times. Therapy and meds are a joke so it’s just part of being obsessively obsessive. I already do a lot of the class a signs of ocd only mine is like one of those people you see on tv.

    • @DPbyDoni
      @DPbyDoni  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, because the metal is so thin, it is bound to curve. I have found that if I place the ruler over the last row that was drilled, the rest tends to lay down better. I also sometimes will manually bend it a slight bit so that it will lay flat against the sticky canvas.

    I need advice. I love using the mesh ruler. I have one that I used twice for 8 rows across and 40 rows long. The placement was perfect. However on the third row placement, it is approximately a millimeter off. I cannot work the ruler far enough to the left to make that one millimeter disappear. And I'm afraid the NEXT row may be one and 1/2 mm out of whack. Any suggestions?

    • @DPbyDoni
      @DPbyDoni  11 месяцев назад +1

      This happens all the time to me. What I do is, when placing a new empty ruler down, I push it against the previous row until it is perfectly showing the symbols all the way up in order to keep the entire canvas uniform. She people will sacrifice one row by placing the first empty line over the last row placed in order to easily keep it from going off by any amount at all.

    • @DPbyDoni
      @DPbyDoni  Год назад

      These rulers are consumable, unfortunately. Once it starts to rip it is best to replace it with a new one. There are no other materials that they are made in. Strangly though, the square rulers are made in a much thicker metal material. I can see why now that I think of it. Because the round rulers have holes for every single drill, they have to be placed very close together making the metal area very thin. The square rulers only have holes in a plus design grid so they are able to make them much thicker.

    • @DPbyDoni
      @DPbyDoni  Год назад +1

      The only way I've found to avoid that gap is to push your ruler as close to the previous line as possible. As for vertical or horizontal, you will want to use whichever will fit your ruler the best all the way to the end so that you can utilize the full thing.

      @@aprilalfred2151 I have found that I use the 141 the most. I do a lot of Diamond Art Club canvases though and that is the size to use for theirs. I hope the 140 works for the canvas you are doing!

    Square drills prevent any gaps. Might be better for you.

      I used to prefer squares when I first started, but I now prefer the rounds because it goes much faster. I spend way too much time straightening the squares when I do those. They aren't supposed to have gaps, but that is a hard one to find where there is no gaps at all. I am going to try out the newer DAC kits because I hear they are a dream to work with.

    I really wish this video were to show how to place the ruler the first time. Not with diamonds already down. How to line it up for first use.

      @@MrsLolaLou I just reread your fist comment and I misunderstood what you were saying. You meant the very first time it is put down with no diamonds on the canvas, correct?

      I know this was an old comment, but if you still want to see the ruler placed down on a fresh diamond painting, I have that video here: ruclips.net/video/h5USogziq7A/видео.html

      An a4 light pad would be what you are looking for if you don't want to invest a larger amount on it. I have a couple that I recommend on my Amazon page.

      Some canvases are just odd sizeed and nothing seems to fit. Have you tried them on a different canvas?

      Corina Henry some canvases are printed not so perfect. Especially if you get them from places like amazon and wish. I’ve learned to just put the first row of the ruler back over the last row of diamonds and then continue on and that ensures all the diamonds are even. Sometimes it looks like the ruler is covering half of the symbol and you’re on the wrong symbol but I know I’m on that row and just keep going and in the end it works itself out. Wish I could post pictures to show you what I mean.
