People like to bring up Buddy Guy....awesome in his own right.....Stevie Ray brought it to a whole 'nother level....in my mind he blows Eric Clapton out of the water....he was so raw and real, just a hard sound....nobody ever played like this.
I’m 58, I was lucky enough to get to see him at the Royal Theatre here in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, back in August, 1985. It was So LOUD!!!!! My ears rang for a month after that. I shook his hand after he played. He used to hang after the show and sign everyone’s things or books. A great guy and in my opinion the best guitarist ever.
In 1984, I was a sophomore at UT. At around 3 in the morning I was on my scooter waiting at a stoplight on Guadalupe. Street was completely empty....until Stevie and his band members pulled up in his Cadillac. Thank goodness for the long wait that allowed us to exchange some hellos and pleasantries.

Every time Stevie picked up the guitar he played with the same intensity and passion, unrivaled by any other guitarist, to pour out his soul for the music. That is why every solo is so magical, we can feel his soul through the sound.

The album you mentioned In Session was a show broadcast on CBC here in Canada, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it advertised in TV Guide and skipped school that day, my Mother recorded it for me, all theses years later one can see it on RUclips, and can probably buy it on Apple iTunes, one last bit, it was In Session with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King.

This performance is what introduced me to the blues. I had never heard of SRV, and one night I was up late as a teenager and I saw this concert on PBS. I was absolutely in a trance. It just blew me away!

I heard a track on the radio and went straight out bought the album Texas Flood, then I found out that he was already dead. I bought every album available and I have watched every video, but this the one I always come back to. He was a genius.
