      They have told me, that they are still testing the vehicle. It is already road legal. It should be legal to fly next year. But I agree with you, that there are other projects more promissing

    All they have achieved is a three wheeled go cart that looks like it can fly.The only platform you can fly is a simulator resembling the proposed cockpit.The problem they have is that designing it to be Road worthy and then trying to make it fly will make it too heavy to be a autogyro.Right now it’s a concept model that drives,there is no information on the engine, gearbox to the prop,fuel system etc etc. On another video they show the prop turning and from the sound it is clearly a small separate engine that would only get a model aircraft off the ground.

    The original and only flying version of the PAL-V is based on a Carver One

    • @DrivingwithGloves
      @DrivingwithGloves  3 года назад

      Yes I know. That is actualy what I had expected also in the final version. I will hopefully drive and fly the PAL-V next year, but I am a bit worried aboud the cornering stability at speeds around 160 km/h. The carver ability would be way cooler and safer. Then it would not only be fun to fly, but also huge fun to drive.

      @@DrivingwithGloves I know the PAL-V test pilot as had a Gyro lesson with him a few years ago, not sure why they moved away from the one based on the Carver

    This is not the world’s first flying car. Take a look at the Terrafugia Transition, which is a proper fixed wing aircraft not a gyrocopter.

      I am aware that it is not the first flying car. I suppose that the first flying car was built in 1942, the flying Willys Jeep. But since the PAL-V calls it the first flying car, I assume that it is already out of the prototype status. There exist also the KleinVision from Slovakia or the Gyromotion from the Czech Republic.

      This is much safer and maintenance free than a fixed wing aircraft. The rotor acts like a parachute in case of motor failure.

    • @DrivingwithGloves
      @DrivingwithGloves  Год назад

      You are right about that. The only tricky point with a gyrocopter is the take off. You have to keep near the ground long enough to build up rotor speed.

      @@DrivingwithGloves Some gyros have pre-rotation. Is that the case with PAL-V? Also another tricky point is bunting, I've heard that small wings or horizontal stabilizers minimizes the issue.

      Sorry that I can't answer your questions, because I am not working for PAL-V, I only made this improvised video, because they asked me too, when I was at this exhibition. I liked the original concept based on the carver one car. With my height it will practically impossible to drive and fly this vehicle. I suppose that for the price tag of the PAL-V pre rotation should be included. But even with pre rotation, it can not take off like a helicopter. I personally believe more in the concept of Virnik Autogyro AGN from the Tchech Republik. Based on two different types of Gyrocopter from the German Autogyro GmbH, they make a streetlegal version which can drive as well. Not fast, but good enough to drive through town or to the petrol station. Therefor you have a good gyroplane with space which you really can use, for a fraction of the cost.
