My cousins from another country was watching the election and pretty much made fun of America the entire time for voting for Trump
So I'm Canadian. Whenever anything bad happens, anywhere really, people say they'll move to Canada; and I'm fine with that, really, I am, our population is low enough as it is, but I just have one question. Where do we move, if something bad happens here? Because we sure as Hell ain't moving to the US.

Those 2 states are roughly 19% of our population, therefore they should get 19% of the voice. Also, "deciding" votes are an artifact of the electoral college. With it gone every vote is a deciding vote.

But when one of my great friends is afraid to wear her hijab to school because of what Donald Trump has said and my English teacher found one of my peers in the bathroom sobbing because she was scared of her parents being deported from the country it scares me

My mother donates frequently to the Welcome To America project, and is a volunteer teacher every Monday for Mexican immigrants hoping to earn citizenship. She teaches them fluency in English and about the Constitution. Both are good causes. She goes to marches. I've been with her.
But I'm afraid. If LGBT+ rights get worse, I might not be able to find housing or a steady job without repressing a part of myself. The same thing might happen to my mother and stepmother and sister as well. All of us fit under the LGBT+ label, and all of us are a little concerned about how things are going. I'm worried that my mother might be hurt because she "teaches illegals" or "provides for incoming terrorists" when all she's doing is helping respectable people who've left their own countries because this is a safer place to be. And I'm worried for those people, too. Will they be attacked? Will they be abused by society because they're not born Americans or because they have accents or aren't Christian? Those are stupid reasons to hurt someone.
I know it's childish, but I wish people would stop being afraid. I'm not afraid of people who can't speak English. I'm not afraid of people who aren't Christian or don't dress like me or think differently. I don't respect violent people but I wouldn't assume that everyone is violent.

They're sick of being held responsible for every other person with the same reproductive organs or skin tone. Social justice and identity politics, that's why Trump won. The electoral system is there so that the major cities don't always control every single election. People in rural areas and states need a voice too. States are sovereign entities. I think this is why the left's smearing of Trump didn't work, because they weren't voting for him because of his character (which is questionable at best), they were voting for him because he wasn't Hillary. No amount of smearing will change that.
You would be welcome in Canada. It's a pretty peaceful place, without that horrible racial divide in the States, no insane NRA gun laws, and yes we have single payer healthcare.
We have four seasons, just like you do, we speak English, not American, and while we have a lot in common we are different.
It's not perfect, but it is a slice of heaven. Particularly if you're coming from somewhere war torn, living under anarchy, or even the US. We don't mind welcoming others to our country, as many of us were immigrants at one time too.

It is just assumed (correctly) that-of course-the entire audience hates Trump and loves Hillary, when we have just shown that at least half of America feels the opposite. Tanaya Mohanty Well first off the bat you had Voter fatigue. When a party controls the White House their voters become complacent, and agitated about why more isn't getting done. Inversely the out party becomes more enthusiastic and determined to win. That is why the out party usually does better in mid-terms. This gets pretty bad after 8 years. Also voters like to see a change of course after 8 years and it didn't help that Clinton's message was basically staying the course while Trump something radically different. In this election the GOP was just much more enthusiastic to get out and vote and DEMs just had no enthusiasm. Democrats really needed a candidate to enthuse them and Hillary had the opposite effect. Trump on the other hand a very enthusiastic core base and not only that many of that base weren't Republicans, but working class voters who liked him. For many Trump was the only candidate speaking to them on issues they cared about. They didn't care he was a flawed messenger he was the only one giving them that message. Lastly Democrats were over confident they had good reason to underestimate a candidate like Trump. Why take time away from your day to go and vote if you think it's predetermined especially for a candidate you don't like like Clinton. Also Hillary Campaign didn't cover the mid-west because they saw it as part of a Blue Wall they took it for granted and Trump and the RNC didn't. Trump campaigned there and the RNC organized get out the vote efforts. As 1992 proved wrong the Red Wall this election proved wrong the Blue Wall and hopefully the idea of party walls forever.
