Great lesson Griff....A little tip for those who suck at guitar like myself is to start the octave on the 11th fret 5th string with octave on the 13th fret 3rd string then following the same pattern might be easier and positions your hand nicely for the following part.

I don't think i play any song the right way, if there is a "right" way. I don't see the point of being a clone. I'm not hendrix or clapton or gilmour or any one else. I play it the way i want to play it..

Precisely, be yourself, probably Hendrix didn't play it the same way each time anyway.

@@victorformosa2825 No he didn't. Most don't. Only perhaps a band like say AC/DC whose riffs and solos are so iconic they kind off have to be almost the same every time..As do the drum rhythms....
The thing is if you're learning a song most go with the best known recorded version. Back in the day learning it..or trying to figure it out from a round piece of vinyl was about your only option..
That road also has issues because for many bands and guitar players you won't be able to get their tone right. Similar maybe depending on your gear..But try that with a Queen track...not easy.
Some use a pedal board but for some their effects are controlled back stage and these days not using foot pedals.
On that subject I once read an article that said Carlos Santana spent some time hunting for the right amp..eventually he saw a small 5 watt amp in a second hand store..pawn shop or whatever..bought it on a whim and....the rest is as they say history.
The story went he used that amp on stage hidden behind big amp heads and cabs. For some time now he has his amps built to his spec.
Whether that's true or not I don't know..but it might well be.
As you mention the Jimmy, according to one of the guys who worked in the studio he used a lot..he recorded a lot of his tracks on a Telecaster..Interestingly he also said Jimmy could play just as well right handed as he could left handed..Now if that's true did he use a right handed Strat the wrong way round as a gimmick..?
      If he did..it worked.
Truth or rumour..? I don't know.

@@ianrichardson3968 Thanks for the info. I go back to those days of working it from vinyl, regarding Jimi, he was incredibly gifted, so who knows.

      @@victorformosa2825 Yes he was Victor..
If you're a Jimi fan and if you haven't seen this guy on youtube, search for Dave Simpson..He is an awesome player and quite a character.
On his channel look for his video review of Fender's voodoo child strings..I have a couple sets of those..once he finishes the review he says something along the lines of ..let's see if we can channel a bit of Jimi...
Close your eyes and you'd swear....
He starts a lot of his videos just playing and half the time he just starts and sees what comes out...Quite honestly he'd give any one a run for their money..
