Alvin was an early hero of mine in the late 60s. His speedy repetitive licks hooked me right away. Then in the 80s my popular local rock band got to open for him with his 10 years later band. Naturally alout of interplay between us occured. As well as a few guitar lessons from him..THERES NOTHING MORE POWERFUL THAN LEARNING FROM THE PERSON WHO CREATED IT. And my life allowed me to experience it ewwith allot of my hero's. And as we were about to end our association after the time together we had a little snort snort for the road and he slappooped one of my bands stickers on his tour bus for posterity sake and away we went on our ways. Then when he died, I was shocked yet understood that when we were together, I was able to tell him how important he was to me younger. self. And he really was cool with it all ...And so am I...See ya up there Alvin...
One of my favorite songs I just barely discovered. Mr. Alvin Lee RIP. Just so beautiful. And George Harrison plays a beautiful slide solo. Oh God where have I been. Thank you.
Alvin Lee’s Pure Blues is one of my all time favorite albums. Bluest Blues is the best track on the album. As I understand it, George Harrison played on that track. I have been scouring RUclips for any kind of coverage of this man’s work. It’s amazing how little there is. Please don’t stop here. Slow Blues In C is another track I wish you would look at. Thanks for getting me started.
Mark Halley, I still play this song, it would have been nice to see George and Alvins solos for it, But I have never found it by those two.. if you do find it let me know,,,,, Just saying hi from the Southern hemisphere of Auckland NZ
Great lesson, thanks. I've been listening to Alvin Lee since the 60's. For me A Space in Time is still one of the best albums of the psychedelic rock era. He made a 335 sing. And yes that is a fantastic song.
I've seen Alvin 4 times...three times with Ten Years After and once with Ten Years Later. He always gave you your money's worth. Alvin equals...R&R - Blues.
"I'd Love To Change The World"...Alvin Lee, Ten Years After. Pop?...They never had a record on AM radio, back in the day. Only on progressive FM radio, AKA underground radio back then. There was really nothing "pop" about Ten Years After. They also played a concert/music festival called Woodstock. You might have heard of it. They shared the stage with a guy named Hendrix. Canned Heat, Mountain (Leslie West), Johnny Winter and many others. Alvin Lee & Ten Years After one of the hottest bands of that time. Good lesson Griff, thanks. Nice to see Alvin Lee get some due.
That nearly stopped me from watching this lesson from the beginning. The arrogance of some people is just appalling. I've certainly never heard of another "pop" song with a guitar solo like the one in the classic 'I'd Love to Change the World!"
I had the privilege to see Ten Years After in Frankfurt Germany in late 70 or early 71. Alvin Lee blew me away. What I found superbly amazing was when he grabbed the mike stand and began to use it for a slide. The ease and the feeling with which he played was like no other I had seen before or since. I was turned on to both Alvin Lee and Rory Gallagher that year. I haven't been the same since ;-)
I got turned on to Alvin Lee in the 60's. At that time, and up to that time, I would think of him as the fastest electric blues guitarist on the planet... an original shredder. The speed that he played "I'm goin' home" was mind-boggling back then. Then came Richie Blackmore, etc., etc..
gee,,,what's it's gonna be next?.never heard of jimmy page? I was fortunate enough to see Ten Years After in..i'm guessin...1971?..in Edmonton at the old Clarke Stadium and Alvin was just superb. It was a music festival-all day event-which seemed to be the norm those days,mini-copying Woodstock. R.I.P. Alvin..you are truly missed. Nice Les Paul-great tone on it--thanks for the vid!!
Thank you! I am in love with this song. Figures it'd be all those barre chords to play it. Alvin was an absolutely brilliant guitarist. Severely underrated, as far as I can tell I just started listening to him here in the last month but to put it in perspective, I had never heard of Alvin before I found him myself. I'm so, so glad I did. The Bluest Blues is a MASTERPIECE. I bet he was proud of that one. 😎👍
Alvin Lee deserves a lot more credit for his playing than he receives . His early work was very Jazz influenced . He later drifted into Blues/Rock . If you don't know Ten Years After ? Check them out . Great Lesson and Song . Thank You .
Not only was this a great lesson, but I learned an awesome song I had never heard before. I knew that minor scale and have used it ( only in that 1st position) and it always sounded good, but what you did with it just blew my mind...LOL. I have some work to do.
This is the best lesson I have ever run in to. I have fished for that sound trying not to look for the answer. I have checked all the minor modes an couldn't get the sound. This is my first intro to this harmonic minor. An I looking forward to the challenge. Just a great lesson thanks!
4 years ago and I just find this lesson . great teacher . you offer some real good insights on this tune and music theory in general . before that other pop stuff , Alvin at his best was probably the stonehenge & undead albums "goin home" at woodstock was what propelled the band to stardom
After only two years practicing this song grips me and barre chords are my weakness...really seem to absorb your way of breaking it down. For me it's all about the right tone or I don't get into it...saw you with your Les Paul and have been trying to learn this on my PIA Ibanez...strange huh...thanks for this.
So that's why i'm messing up my bar chords and getting too many bad notes because my thumb isn't at the back of the neck ... That feels like an awakening to me so thanks , can't wait to sit down tomorrow and work on that 👍
Don't know how much Alvin you listened to, but I highly recommend you RUclips it to the live vid of 10YA @ Woodstock and their rendition of "I'm Goin' Home". Alvin's intro-lead is nearly speed of light for 12 bars or so, this before the word shredding had become part of the common vernacular.
At t hat time, early 70s, in SE-Asia, Alvin Lee was considered the best Rock n' Roll guitarist n Love Like A Man's long solo was the menu that make him very popular as we encompass the Hippie era n d 70s songs. As I always shout out," U r doing a dis service to your ears if u don't listen to songs of the 70s". 🤣😂🤣😎
Wow , An accomplished .. (I'll use both labels to try not offend) "Guitarist/Guitar player" .. That is not familiar with Alvin Lee?? It seems the world isn't as small as I thought? But indeed you picked one of his best to instruct on. Thanks Boss, You and your work here are appreciated. .. Fun fact it is .. George Harrison, playing the "Slide" lead on this song.. Cool huh?
It would be great to teach the first solo on this track which lasts 1 minute 20 seconds it is amazing. Recently I found out it is played by George Harrison.
Yep, Woodstock was his beginning on the road to glory.. And Kmuggle, he was known as the fastest guitar in the west... I never saw him live, but became familiar with him, and Ten Years After during being stationed in Germany in the early to mid 70's..
His version of Goin' Down at Woodstock was my introduction to Mr. Lee. Definitely demonstrated a need for speed. His brother, Albert, is a pretty decent guitar, too.

Alvin Lee is hands down one of the best guitarists ever...listen more to him. He is the LICK MASTER...you will soon discover. Try 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain (2002 Remaster) listen to the jam in the middle around 3:27 He pulls so much out of those licks, it's sick
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Lawrence Forrest I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
George Harrison Played the solo for this song. What a great song. Alvin was the original Rock Shredder before shredding got sloppy. Every note was perfect and he could play really fast. RIP Alvin Lee
George Harrison could not play the solo to that song not good anyway Clapton did most of the solo work on guitar gently weeps because Harrison couldn't master that himself.
Great lesson... As a student of your,s I am surprised you haven't been using this song to teach with. I discovered this song 4 months ago and use it to practice barre chords and my first solo that I actually like. My question is ,"In the first solo, does Alvin use a slid to play it?". Thanks in Advance..
Talk talk talk..whats with the non-stopped yacking? Great song..great artist..great idea. Too bad these instructors love the sound of their own voice so much and want everyone to see they can play.
There's nothing I hate more than the sound of my own voice. It's a lesson, not a concert. Do your own if you're perfect and so sure everyone thinks like you do.

I was in the past the soundman for a band, often they played this song especially for me. I still miss the band.
It's never too late to listen to and appreciate Alvin Lee and TYA! Pure blues is a fine album. Bluest Blues is beautiful. Thanks for posting.

TYA had ‘pop’ records back in the day called ‘Love Like Man’ and another I can’t remember the name of, was it ‘pop’, what is ‘pop’?

SSSSH 1969 lp
This song is addictive. What a solo
Griff, great to see someone doing an Alvin Lee lesson. Fantastic player IMHO. Thank you!
Listen to him when I was 14 n love his records.
Alvin Lee is one of the greatest Blues guitar players. Ten Years after was a great band. It's never too late to learn what you have missed out on.

You are great. Excellent way of teaching. You make me feel at ease and wanting to listen to you and learn more and more. You rock.

Alvin Lee deserves a lot more credit for his playing than he receives . His early work was very Jazz influenced . He later drifted into Blues/Rock . If you don't know Ten Years After ? Check them out . Great Lesson and Song . Thank You .

Love this song. I’m just picking up some music theory and loved the way you broke this down. Good job Griff.
Love that tune.
Great lesson, thanks!
Thank you so much for doing this. I always enjoy your tutorials and teaching! I appreciate you!
This song is so good. You did a really good job of breaking it down. Solo breakdown?
Probably best known for Woodstock performances which was awesome but this is my favorite song by Alvin
Did you know George Harrison plays the slide guitar on this song!
uniknot wow didn’t know that thanks for the info..
For all we know you just made this up! Strangely I believe you though
@@christianbrobst3486 It's a good thing that you do because it is absolutely true!

I also like to play "Love Like a Man" and "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" though the solo on that is tough😵🤘🏻

Check out his performance at Woodstock .
I missed that one from the mailing list. Maybe now I can talk my group into playing it in the next BGU live, since it's officially Griff sanctioned :)
Great Lesson ,,, 57 Reissue Goldtop ? Beautiful
Great tone from those humbuckers, wish I knew what amp and how you set it to get that beautiful sound.

he was well known for "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock...great player...
Saw him play that at The Fillmore West ... decades ago. He was one of the fastest players around back then and he didn't use any tricks to do it.
Yep, Woodstock was his beginning on the road to glory.. And Kmuggle, he was known as the fastest guitar in the west... I never saw him live, but became familiar with him, and Ten Years After during being stationed in Germany in the early to mid 70's..

Beautiful Goldtop.. What is it a 57 Reissue ?
Is the F7 a replacement for the diminished chord? I think I heard you can replace a 7th chord for a diminished.
super erklärung 👍👍👍👍👍
Check out Woodchopper's Ball by Alvin Lee, Griff!
How do i get the real sound of Alvin Lee in this song, can you help me
CRICKLEWOOD GREEN is Ten Years After's Best LP check it out.
I caught Alvin Lee and Ten Years after twice. They were less dramatic, but much more important than Led Zeppelin in the formation years.
New camera? Looks great!

One of my all time favorites. And, as already remarked, George Harrison played the Solo. How cool is that ....
For some reason I was mildly surprised that George played the slide guitar solo - it's awesome.
@@keithjackaman9427 I was too
George sounded great.
Disappointed. You never mentioned Beatle George Harrison’s slide solo 😢
this is a tough one, getting the chord just right, and having your fingers cooperate, but a great exercise for practicing those nasty bar chords ,
Shortly after Woodstock, Alvin Lee, became known as the fastest rock guitarist to ever grace this earth.
Yes, but speed doesn´t do it. Music is not about speed, but about feel.
@@kimhansen6384 Late 60's rock guitar was at a level never heard before. Alvin Lee had it all.

Lol, Lee did not read music but played by ear. . No music theory in his creation.
A little tedious and too many words
