This song has always hit differently for me. My grandfather was a lifelong fisherman and captain of a legendary fishing boat in Maryland. He was a bayman throughout much if his career. And in the early 1990s when Maryland outlawed striper fishing he was forced to rely upon his knowledge of the ocean and swordfish fishing in particular. He was good at it, many would say he was great but unfortunately it didn't bring in the $$$ needed to keep his business afloat. So in his 70s, my grandfather had to close up shop in the fishing industry and rely upon his carpentry skills to eek out a living, something he never complained about but I feel that it took a terrible toll on him and eventually lead to his death at the age of 79. This man was a workhorse who joined the US navy at age 22, fought valiantly in the as a sonar man on board of the USS Cannon a destroyer escort ship AKA a "tin can", came home, became a carpenter, got married, had kids, bought a small fishing vessel and so on...he is my hero to say the least. And this song, I feel, is about men like him.

Billy is an incredible guy and you owe it to yourself to see him live one time if you haven’t already. He is amazing live and performs for like 3 hours. I’ve seen him 6 times and it’s always amazing!!
Billy Joel is a great singer-songwriter & composer from the 70's-90's. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has so many hits over the years. The whole "Stranger" album is great & one of my favorites. It had the songs "Just The Way You Are", "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)", "Only The Good Die Young", "She's Always A Woman", "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant".
