    Nice job! I've been an expat retiree here over 3 years. You convey the attitude that will make life in EC successful. One secret is to make connections with Ecuadorians who can fix you up with a good rental beyond the Gringolandia highrises. I rent a house in Racar sector, quiet barrio, 3 beds 2.5 baths for $350.

    We’re from Canada and We’ve been in Vilcabamba 6 weeks now..My 6th time in Ecuador since 2011 and my partner’s first time. She loves it here and I am very glad that things haven’t changed too much since 2011. We’re staying for 6 months and will probably get our retirement visas before we return to Canada and then we can come back anytime…It is truly a beautiful country and we’re very happy to be here.

    If I were convinced that the majority of expats in Cuenca were like you, I would consider moving there. However, as someone who has lived on/off in Mexico since 1982, I've seen too many Gringos who refuse to embrace the Latin culture. You, however, represent the best values of America. So, when choosing where to live in Ecuador, the presence of many expats is a deal breaker. Loja, here I come! Thanks for the video.

    I have a million questions but will only ask a few. Is there such a thing as a lease for a year or so? I have heard the rents are escalating like the monthly income required for a visa that changed in 2022?. Have you found expats moving out of Ecuador like a couple of YT videos are saying? How easy was it to find other expats? And lastly, what was the big surprise that you weren't ready for? Thanks for the great video!

    • @GlobalLocals
      @GlobalLocals  2 года назад

      The rents are going up pretty consistently, it seems, but you will probably be able to find good prices if you have locals help you. For more info about people moving out of Ecuador, I would consult the Facebook expats groups or the InterNations website. InterNations is also a great resource for many other questions since you mentioned there is more you’re curious about. Other expats and how easy it is to find them will depend on where you are. In big cities or on the coast, you will likely find more foreign people. Cuenca also seems to be a pretty big expat / immigrant hub. You can find expats with resources like Facebook, the MeetUp groups, social events. Keep in mind though that if you are considering moving abroad, making local friends and trying to learn the local language and culture is highly recommended! I hope this will give you a solid base to answer some of your question. Feel free to ask more here. You can also check out my more recent video about the RUclips channels to follow that talk about living in Ecuador!

    USD400 per month is minimum wage. The locals who live on this are not renting, or living, an American lifestyle. You may be able to do it grass roots style. Hispanic people are savvy. This allows them to bring in people who are probably going to have more money than that, and are motivated to stay and spend it. If it's too hard, people take their money elsewhere.
    I have just had my visa approved. I'm pretty happy about that.

    True Americans. Fixed idea on climate. I am an American expat and live in SE Asia. At the temps you love I would be freezing. I wear sweaters in AC coffee shops. Might be good to open the mind and adapt to alternative and see what you think. It took me a couple of years before I could work outdoors in full sun. You may like living by he ocean there. I am going to Panama, but Ecuador is still on the radar. Oh, now we ride mountain bike, at times the temp has been 104F to 109F. No problem and no sweat. I would not change to any other type of climate and I have experienced many types. Sitting outdoors and eating dinner in the tropics is unbeatable. Beautiful blue skies with occasional amazing white with billowing clouds is inspiring for the senses. Enjoy, and see how much more fully you can enjoy and find the place you really love based on experience instead of bias.

    Hey, it's nice to catch some up and coming RUclipsrs when they are still "small" and not yet rich and famous... Thanks for the fun advice that basically jives with all the things the other "Ecuador" RUclipsrs have said. That's interesting about all the Venezuelans that Ecuador has taken in. I also follow some Panama RUclipsrs and they have also mentioned that many Venezuelan refugees have come there. It's sad to see a once wealthy country like Venezuela go down the tubes. The government there is very violent in its repression and I can't blame Venezuelans for wanting to leave. I think it's very kind and generous of Ecuador to take so many in. Colombia and Peru have taken in the most. Some US-Americans like to lift their noses at refugees and "illegal" immigrants but we should try to imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes.
