  • Once you've decided what to bring on your big move, now it's time to pack it - very carefully. We made a lot of good decisions and a few mistakes we wish we would have known about, so we're sharing it all with you here. From packing lists for documents your goods, to tricks on labeling, and how to get it all safely across the ocean, we try to be thorough for you. While our experience is specific to moving from the U.S. to Ecuador, most of these tips apply to all international moves with a shipping container. Hopefully this helps your process! Please don't hesitate to comment with thoughts and more questions, we're happy to give our advice.

We are an American family living permanently in Ecuador, transforming a mostly-untouched 30 acres of jungle mountain into a working, self-sustainable, off-grid farm. There are a lot of trials, errors, successes, and lessons to be learned along the way. We hope to share it all with you, to tell our story, to inspire, and to hopefully help answer the questions you didn’t know to ask.

I had a boss that would do something so the OSHA inspector could find something simple and had something to write up so he would not have to look harder to find something that would be a bigger problem.
Have you thought about contacting other small channels and give each other and try to grow your channel faster?
I am glad you got there with a low amount of damage, it looks like it could have been much worse. Take care.

Yes, we think customs is likely much the same. So luckily they found 'issues' that were minor!
We have considered a collab of sorts, but it's honestly hard to find the right person/people! Definitely something to consider for us though, thank you.

I am curious, you are obviously a very handyman kind of guy. Do you have an engineering degree?

No, nor do I have a highschool diploma but I have an incredibly long and interesting work history of doing a variety of different things.

@@tinyhandsbigdreams Very impressive the things you have learned to do. My wife and I are moving there this year, so we are really enjoying your videos.

Woo! We made this one just for you, then! What area of the country are you moving to?

@@tinyhandsbigdreams I admire homesteaders, but I think I am a little too old and not quite smart enough or tuff enough for that life. We have a parcel in Cotacachi and will start building this fall.

This family is just starting out as yourself. I do not know why some channels take off and others do not. Things in common could ve the steps starting a homestead. They are for the general area you moved from. We moved a lot when the kids were young and it was a new adventure for each move. With what is coming with the mounting debt, you may be in a good place.

      Thanks, we'll check them out!
We can't seem to figure out the RUclips 'game', but hopefully staying authentic and honest will work out in the end for us, even if the channel growth is a bit slower than we'd like. We do feel real good about where we are. People ask what our 'retirement' plan is, and we just gesture to our property. This is it!
