    I’m going to show SSK Slip Knitting pattern both in English and continental method. My first five stitches are knitted the English way and my last five stitches are the continental way.
    One of the basic knitting decreases is SSK which stands for Slip Slip Knit. It entails slipping two stitches from the left needle to the right needle and then putting them together as if they were one stitch using a clever move. Because you are removing two stitches and replacing them with one stitch when you finish a ssk, your knitting decreases. This reduction is slanted to the left. This technique should be used on the right side of the front of the garment if you are decreasing uniformly on both sides of the fabric to produce a point, such as the top of a mitten or shaping armholes. A right slanting decrease, such as k2tog, would be used on the left side (knit 2 together).
    Knitting technique is divided into two categories: English method and Continental method. The only real distinction is in how the yarn is held. The working yarn is held in the right hand in the English method and in the left hand in the Continental method. While both methods produce excellent results, they are sufficiently different that it is worthwhile to learn about both and how they can benefit your knitting.
    English knitting, also known as American knitting or "throwing," is the most popular method in England, parts of Europe, and other parts of the world. Holding the yarn in your right hand, you throw it over the needle to make a stitch.
    Continental knitting, also known as German knitting or picking, is popular throughout northern and eastern Europe, as well as other parts of the world. The yarn is held in the left hand, and a subtle movement of the left index finger (and, occasionally, other fingers) is used to help the needle pick up the yarn and form a new stitch.
    Both continental and English knitting styles exist, but the main distinction is how the yarn is wrapped around the needle on the right before being pulled to knit a stitch. Knitting the action in continental knitting is picking the yarn, whereas knitting the action in English knitting is throwing the yarn.

    In English and Continental knitting the stitches look the same. The lead of the stitch is in the front. The yarn goes around the needle counter clockwise. Doesn't matter whether you hold the yarn in the left or right hand. The difference is in the Eastern and Western method. In Eastern the lead is in the back and the yarn is wrapped clockwise around the needle.

      Thank you for the detailed explanation. The way I usually purl continentally, it results in the stich actually laying differently than when I English Knit. There are so many different ways to knit, no matter English or Continental I think. They are all fascinating to me.

    How many stitches do I cast on please odd number or even? Thank you!

    • @TastyLittleDumpling
      @TastyLittleDumpling  2 года назад

      This is only a specific stitch within a pattern so no specific requirement on how many stitches you need to cast on. Cast on requirements depends on your pattern.
      Remember when you have a SSK decrease in your pattern, most likely you will have a increase as well to make sure you have the same number of stitches. Hope that makes sense sweetie 😘

    Thank you! So if you are a continental knitter how do you make a k2tog ?

    • @TastyLittleDumpling
      @TastyLittleDumpling  9 месяцев назад

      I just knit 2 together without having to slip the 2 stitches first. That’s assume my stitch is leaning “backwards” if you know what I mean. Around 5:15 of the video, I show that specifically. Thanks.
