The work is to what I call a good standard. Compared to what is being done these days it is top notch but some one with a clip board would rather it thrown up as long as you don't tooth, don't use a hod, don't have the radio on, don't build a corner free hand, don't fart, don't breath too loudly. I watch your channel because you work the same way that I do. I call it the right way but I am constantly being told, "We don't do it like that anymore." It worked well for a thousand years but they know best I guess. Rant over

Hi Andy, Enjoy your content. My 48th year bricklaying and still learning from your tips. Your info brings back memories of all the skilled tradesmen I had pleasure to work with over the years. Remember you young brickies keep off your knees!
When I was working on a wrap round extension and client wanted facework toothed into existing. I set about checking existing levels/gauge only to discover the existing house had a course “in pig”. I shouted across to my mate “there’s a pig in this house” With that the lady of the house slammed the door and made off shouting “I’ve never been so insulted” Tried to explain but no tea on that job!!
Top upload Andy a good tidy wee job the blocks are a mare soaking at the moment mind not break your ankle crap access down some cavity size wow ! Hope you enjoyed your Friday night Andy 🍻
I had to do a wrap around dpc because of ext ground level and i feel for you it is a pain in the arse how come no vertical dpc by wall starters building control in south go nuts if not in
Never done it once in 50 years and i have probably built hundreds, BC in my area dont allow it as once you cut through the existing building you have immediately weakened the corner. As you know wall starters have no strength so they would be no help.Ive had this conversation with inspectors and they have said do it if you want but remedial ties need to be introduced to the existing every three course up the corner so no we dont and ive never had a problem.
@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 really don't get that as your only cutting a 50mm slot in the centre of the cavity how that weakens it god knows so if you open up the cavity and use a wall starter you would need remedial ties
@@davidbarnett8002 It's not a 50mm slot is it, it's 100mm right through the wall they ask for, 50mm will do nothing as capillary action will by pass that. If you look at the manufacturers recommendations there is no slot but what they do say is that the abutment joint should be Silicone, most don't do that but if they did no problem, not that there is in my experience .
@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 no mate it does not go right through its a vertical stop 25 to 50mm is all that's required finished with a mastic joint I haven't made it up that's what building control ask for ive done enough of them
@@davidbarnett8002 Fair enough i get that but its certainly something that is never on our drawings here or asked for by Building Control in my area , but yes if they ask for it i suppose its got to be done but practically it wont make s bit of difference because as i said never done it for 50 years and never had a problem
