I watched this movie a few years ago, and loved it. I rewatched it with my friends a few weeks ago, and this scene made me cry where it hadn’t before. The emotions are incredibly portrayed and overwhelming, James and Anya’s acting is incredible. I spent a while analyzing this scene because it really got to me, so prepare for my speech on why this is so moving: Kevin was abused by his mom, the trauma causing his personalities to Split. He wasn’t a bad person, just a boy who was hurt and developed other people in his head to protect him. That’s how Dennis or Barry came to be. The protector Alter, who took care of Kevin. Sorry I can’t quite place which would be which, but the protector was one of them. (Edit: It’s Barry. Barry is the protector alter who was later overthrown by Dennis, who occasionally pretended to be Barry.) In this scene, it shows that Kevin has been out of the light for years. He doesn’t remember, or understand what is happening. Earlier in the movie we learn that Barry is the main one in the light, the ruling Alter in a way. He takes care of the others and makes sure everything goes okay. But Dennis and Patricia, believing the Beast was the way to showing others the power Kevin held, began to steal the light from Barry and hide him away. That is why at night Barry would come to for a split second and email Dr. Fletcher for help. Something that hurts to think about is the fact that several of the alters LOVED Dr. Fletcher. Barry felt safe around her, trusted her, and that’s why he sought help from her. Kevin loved her too. You can see he recognized her at the beginning. They had been having appointments with her for years, judging from the last date Kevin remembered. And Dr. Fletcher actually seemed to care about him and his personalities as well. Barry tried to take care of Kevin and the others. He was a good guy, and deserved far better. Now, back to this scene. Obviously most of the alters were actually sweet, good people. No alter I believe to be truly bad. All of them wanted to help Kevin; Patricia and Dennis just had a twisted way of doing it. In the next movie, Mr. Glass, the Beast himself even says he just wanted to protect Kevin. These Alters, whom Patricia and Dennis had forced away, finally came to the light after who knows how long. It starts with Kevin, who realizes what’s wrong and tells Casey to kill him. Imagine the terror of fronting after years of being in the dark, only to find your doctor dead and a crying girl in your hidden home. Kevin didn’t deserve any of this and I wish we got to see more of him. Next, we have Jade. She’s afraid when she fronts, obviously not wanting Kevin to get them all killed. She says he can’t handle reality and asks Casey if Dr. Fletcher got any of their emails. She says “our” emails instead of just Barry, showing she was one of the ones with him trying to prevent Dennis and Patricia from taking over. She says “this is what we have to do”. They don’t have a choice, they have to stop them. Then, the next Alter (don’t remember his name). He uses old examples to explain that the “others”, the other 19/20 Alters are good, are not with Dennis. He says “we have been wronged by this alliance, this horde of Dennis, Patricia, and the boy.” He’s speaking of the fact Dennis and Patricia teamed up and manipulated Hedwig into believing the Beast was the right and true thing to do. You can hear the anger/frustration in his voice when he says this line. They’ve been forcing the other Alters away, taking control and abusing their power. Of course he would be upset. Then he says “their actions do NOT represent us” once again confirming the other Alters are against them, simply wanting to live life and keep Kevin safe. And that’s the tragedy. They don’t want this. They’re simply stuck and unable to stop the horrible acts of the Horde (Dennis, Patricia, Beast). Then there’s Barry. Barry, who only wanted what was best for Kevin and the others. Dennis and Patricia had been forcing him away, Barry unable to stop the kidnapping. Barry was one of Alters who knew what Dennis and Patricia had done, knew it was horrible. Which is why he strokes Casey’s face and says “oh, baby girl.” He feels horrible for what’s happened. Something interesting about when he first fronts is what he says. So from accounts I’ve heard from people with MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) or DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder, same thing) alters can actually fight/argue about who gets to take the light. So I imagine what was happening was; After Casey called his name and Kevin fronted for the first time in years, everyone in Kevin’s mind freaked out. They had been thrown off balance by the original’s arrival after so long, and when he suggested Casey shoot him they all freaked out and began fighting for the light in Kevin’s head. (Some of them probably agreed with the decision for her to shoot and kill Kevin in order to stop him, but I can’t imagine how panicked the alters who wanted to live must have felt.) I imagine they were all arguing and yelling, which is why Barry says “everyone just hold on a MINUTE.” “Oh, baby girl.” When he says that my heart breaks, because he’s wanted so desperately to help her and he knows what she must’ve gone through. “They’ve been stealing control of the light from me, but the group are gonna work through this.” Another tribute to the fact that ‘The group’ or other Alters are good and want to help Barry and Casey and the girls. Kevin was probably the only one out of the 23 who DIDN’T know about Dennis and Patricia and the kidnapping. The other Alters are trying to work out a plan, trying to figure out how they can take down the Horde. Those poor Alters. And then Hedwig fronts. My friends loved him the whole movie, and felt horrible for him. He is just a 9-year old boy. The other Alters picked on him, and Dennis and Patricia (especially Patricia I think) took advantage of that, and used him for their own selfish needs. Although they don’t think of it as selfish, they think of it as helping Kevin. But they don’t realize that Kevin would never want this. If they truly care about him, they would let Barry and Dr. Fletcher help Kevin to lead a better life. Hedwig is one of my favorites. He’s just a kid, who doesn’t understand what’s happening or what he’s done. All he thinks about is how he wants to be appreciated, wants the other Alters to be proud of him and not just make fun of him. He wants to feel important, as most kids do. Patricia and Dennis make him feel important, give him his ‘job’, tell him about how happy the Beast will be and how he’ll be helping Kevin. Of course Hedwig would want that. I feel awful for him. In the end, Kevin and the Alters were good people in a messed up world. Born out of trauma, yet they (most of them) wanted to lead a good life and wished for Kevin to be happy. Dennis and Patricia, as I stated earlier, weren’t fully evil. Neither was the Beast. But they obviously did horrible, inexcusable things. It’s so interesting to me. I feel bad for all of them, Kevin, and Casey. Kevin deserved so much better. The music, acting, and realization that the Alters loved Dr. Fletcher were really overpowering and made me cry. Brilliant film. Anyways, sorry for my long paragraph. 😂

I do wonder how Barry had control for so long... did he have a strong relationship with Hedwig before? Based on Kevin's last memory in this scene, it sounds like he hasn't touched the Light in like 3 years. I wonder if Barry took control then, and by charming most of the others, including Hedwig, kept control for years. Maybe eventually he was too focused on living life and not keeping up his relationships with the alters, allowing Patricia to start whispering in Hedwig's ear and manipulating him into listening to her and Dennis instead. Hedwig is ultimately the key to control with his unique ability to seemingly take the Light at will, and give it to who he pleases.
At the beginning Barry alone had the power to decide who could stay in the light (Dr. Fletcher chose him due being the most balanced alter). Hedwig gained the control of the light after that Barry got harassed by two schoolgirls. The real question is why Kevin never held the light in over 2 years. Seems that Barry briefly allowed the other alters (except for Patricia and Dennis due their dangerousity) to have their moment. But why not Kevin?
@@TagMaster1988Considering the fact that in this scene Kevin says that HE bought the shotgun and since the bullets are in his personnal locker, i've always assumed that Kevin was a suicidal person even before the events of Split. That would probably explain why he has been away from the light for so long since his other identities are supposed to protect him. Also if i remember correctly Dennis describes Kevin as someone who is fragile to Dr Fletcher.
@@1acid419 you realise that DID isn't a valid psychological disorder right? Point me at a case study of it that has been thoroughly examined and I'll be happy to look into it though.
@@BazingaIII I would like to make a counter point but the topic itself is so controversial in the medical field. That no matter what article I link you could counter and it just become a pointless argument so long story short.
The acting is great I just wish the movie wasn't so misleading to what a person with DID can really be like. From what I gathered people like to think of this movie as mostly or all factual about DID when it's not.
Ok I've never watched the movies just clips so pardon if this a dumb question. I don't get the dynamic between some of the personalities and the beast. The beast on his own fine,he does evil and is all about control and power. Somehow sees those who haven't suffered as beneath him. But what I don't understand is the personalities that align with his thinking and plans. These personalities came as a result of the abuse and trauma Kevin faced. They came into existence to help protect Kevin because what I understand is mentally Kevin couldn't take it and was willing to not have the light because of not being able to handle the reality of his life. So why would they want others to suffer by the beasts hand when their host suffered horrendously? Wouldn't they want the exact opposite of the beasts intentions by going after people who had caused suffering not those who hadn't suffered at all?
Im not sure if this is a correct way to answer but I think it's between a punishment and a justification. I think they're trying to justify what happened to Kevin and trying to make everyone stronger by making them suffer in a way. That's why Casey was spared, because she suffered and was strong. As for the punishment, I think it's just because they're angry. They have their therapist but it doesn't always work with some people, they continue to suffer. I would guess this is their way of finding peace.
When noone help your pain/when you need them/when they ignore you, everyone will become your enemy in your mind so of course, you would want them to suffer.
It's 'alters', not personalities. There is no 'main' personality, there is a 'host'- as in, the person who is in control of the body the most. You guys shouldn't watch this crap. As much as I like McAvoy, this movie is horrible and very bad at informing people about DID.
Kevin hid the shotgun, but he doesn't have memory of what the alters do when they take over. It's pretty self explanatory. He knows they exist, but not what they do/say.
so he goes from saying "the last thing i remember is being on a bus," to describing in full detail where the shotgun and shotgun shells are located in this current location....?

Earlier in the movie we learn that Barry is the main one in the light, the ruling Alter in a way. He takes care of the others and makes sure everything goes okay.
But Dennis and Patricia, believing the Beast was the way to showing others the power Kevin held, began to steal the light from Barry and hide him away. That is why at night Barry would come to for a split second and email Dr. Fletcher for help.
Something that hurts to think about is the fact that several of the alters LOVED Dr. Fletcher. Barry felt safe around her, trusted her, and that’s why he sought help from her.

She says “our” emails instead of just Barry, showing she was one of the ones with him trying to prevent Dennis and Patricia from taking over.
She says “this is what we have to do”. They don’t have a choice, they have to stop them.
Then, the next Alter (don’t remember his name). He uses old examples to explain
that the “others”, the other 19/20 Alters are good, are not with Dennis.
He says “we have been wronged by this alliance, this horde of Dennis, Patricia, and the boy.” He’s speaking of the fact Dennis and Patricia teamed up and manipulated Hedwig into believing the Beast was the right and true thing to do.

I imagine they were all arguing and yelling, which is why Barry says “everyone just hold on a MINUTE.”
“Oh, baby girl.” When he says that my heart breaks, because he’s wanted so desperately to help her and he knows what she must’ve gone through.

This isn’t meant to be anything other than a pseudo-comic book movie. It’s not inappropriate, just a movie.
Its not trying to be an accurate account of DID, one of his personalities is diabetic and only needs insulin when that personality has the light.
I just realized that the actress is the same with queen gambit 🤣
I liked the fact that some people called this movie doesnt resembles the actual DID and says its unrealistic, bruh, you have a genius mastermind here and another superhuman in unbreakable
Yeah McAvoy smashed it in both movies. The way he could flip between characters, without changing hair, clothing, and even makeup for the most part, and I knew exactly who I was looking at on screen. Everything sold through voice, posture and eye contact.
Just phenomenal.
He deserves an oscar, he was amazing and no in caricature.
How James never got an Oscar for this I will never know
Anya was so adorable. She was so young!!
It reminds me of a book (Wild Cards) where a girl accidentally absorbed the minds of several people so she started to do some stuff like this
Their acting was beautiful
Love the fact that only after Hedwig appears there is blood staining in the corner of his mouth.
edit:typo
Notice how when Hedwig takes control, the blood returns to his mouth
I'm reading split.....I love Anya now and the makeup and contour is spot on!!!! Look at the face and nose shaped to perfection I do it on myself it's a lotta work but very fun.....Anya looks so fantastic as Casey.....and her acting also.....Anya will grow on you from this movie!!!!!! Not just her character but the actress herself she's amazing I'm 32 saw split last year when I was going through a rough time homeless.....Anya's character helped me realize.....you can beat evil and get away from it.....now living with my bf in his place and working.....morale of this movie.....you can conquer over evil when you stand up and run away from it and fight back!!!!!!!!
i know the attention is all on his performance , but honestly anya did just as well
jade's immediate focus- "DON'T KILL US WTF"
orwell- i didn't get a say in this!!!!!
barry- just trying to calm everyone down
Can’t believe he didn’t win an Oscar
THAT is acting..my goodness 🔥🔥🔥
This movie did not get the recognition it deserves, the team the not get the recognition they deserve. I wish that the movies were highlighted more.
This man deserved the Oscar
"I was in a bus, I don’t remember anything after that"
Proceeds to tell her where she can find his shotgun 😂
Well if he hid the shotgun before he got on the bus then he'd be able to remember it.
The movie's depiction of DID is pretty inaccurate, but the acting is very good
I mean is about superheroes
Kevin, dennis, Patricia, Jade, Hedwig, Barry, Beast!!!! Fucking each one of them should get an Oscar.
James and Anya is very good actor and actress! 👍❤️🤩🤣😁
Anya did such amazing job in this movie ! ❤
Its tyler1 prove me wrong.
aquí esperando que algún día Mcavoy gane un Oscar
Sadly no good Film about DID. They are not monsters.
Good movie about villains and heroes, bad movie about DID:(
@@1acid419 you realise that DID isn't a valid psychological disorder right? Point me at a case study of it that has been thoroughly examined and I'll be happy to look into it though.
@@BazingaIII I would like to make a counter point but the topic itself is so controversial in the medical field. That no matter what article I link you could counter and it just become a pointless argument so long story short. I say it's up to you, this movie definitely does it to an extreme but I definitely feel it's a valid diagnosis.
@@sadisticlover6327 what would be sufficient is robust brain imaging data over a long period of time.
Nobody said people DID are monsters....
I love in glass when he say you like Kevin now 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t know what it is, but Ana’s expressions always makes me laugh. Especially in this movie.
I love
The acting is great I just wish the movie wasn't so misleading to what a person with DID can really be like. From what I gathered people like to think of this movie as mostly or all factual about DID when it's not.
It's a fictional comic book movie. I don't believe that people with DID can climb walls just by watching this movie
you’re telling me that people with DID can’t develop super powers from one of their personalities? i’ve been bamboozled.
Order food on phone:
Me: I would like to order 5 Pizzas, please.
Pizza hut's employee: "What kind of Pizza do you want?"
Me: 1:27
James McAvoy putting on a clinic
It's Kevin Wendell Crumb - not Kevin HD Clip.
Brilliantly done film!
This movie plays out just like Sydney Sheldon’s Tell Me Your Dreams and both are awesome
I smell best actor man!
I don't get how did get a Oscar for this film.
I'm glad we finally got to meet Barry
I think he did a fantastic job!
wait ive never seen this movie but I know the context. Is "Kevin" his main personality ?
Yes
the other personalities are trying to protect kevin, kevin is the "owner" of body who has a terrible childhood that's why he has 23 personalities
He is the original one, i guess he has more main personalities since they kept him asleep for two years.
It's 'alters', not personalities. There is no 'main' personality, there is a 'host'- as in, the person who is in control of the body the most. You guys shouldn't watch this crap. As much as I like McAvoy, this movie is horrible and very bad at informing people about DID.
@Polina Ivanova Bro no one actual thinks this is DID
The fact she is now in “The last night in Soho” is just crazy to think abt
That transition from Barry to Hedgewick 😱 1:47 - 1:50
I love this film
September 18, 2014 was my little brother's 10th birthday.
As in 1008
What a change of neck😱
Magik met Professor X! 😂
September 18 is my birthday :D
Her eyes are so far away from each other I can't take her cereal
Is the music here put on top of the actual scene by the uploader? Or is this the actual music from the film? It's very heavy-handed.
Why did I not realize this was anya
I feel like Anya has lost some weight since this film.
If I was there I would be laughing/crying
Amazing film❤
Kevin is definitely one of most tragic characters in a long time. Generally feel empathy for his story
He says he does not remember a thing? But then says where is the shotgun loll
Kevin hid the shotgun, but he doesn't have memory of what the alters do when they take over. It's pretty self explanatory. He knows they exist, but not what they do/say.
"Patricia" sounds a lot like Jude Law
Anya Taylor is like an anime character
Who else watching this on september 18th 2014?
Where can I find the whole movie?
so he goes from saying "the last thing i remember is being on a bus," to describing in full detail where the shotgun and shotgun shells are located in this current location....?
The bought shotgun was before he mentioned the bus. The bus was the last thing he remembered. But the shotgun already existed.
Oh wait wait wait0:53
