This crew have to be the most underrated British band of all time, stranglers next most underappreciated. Three albums all different with Wha'ppen the best of the lot. An album that was "world music" before the term even existed. RIP Ranking Roger.
Stranglers - 'Feline'. A brilliant and very underrated record, at least in North America I was fortunate to meet Dave and Roger when they were signing General Public records in Toronto in the eighties. 💙
Thee most underrated band of the 2 Tone/Ska revival era of the late 70s/ early 80s.Saw them at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham in 1980.Cost 50p in the balcony, and it was one of the best concerts I ever saw.A brilliant live band.RIP🙏 Roger,Everett and Saxa.😪
Now WHY can't they make music like THIS anymore??? That non-stick, wallpaper Sh*t they call music today sucks!!! The English Beat were way ahead of their time back in the '80's. It's a shame that we can't enjoy sounds like this today. THE BEAT GOES ON!!!
Excellent version with the dub tacked on to the end. I saw the English Beat at the Market Street Cinema in 1981. This was in San Francisco back in the day. Tiny venue, crushed up front of the stage. Also saw the Go Gos there on their first tour.
Really appreciate the Beat.. For me to the best of best. Sorry for my English.. 😂 😂.. Very nice.. Percussion 🥁 and bass.. Listen to the Beat 40 years. 54 for me..
"Sonospheres" were where they were! It was all credited to the "producer". Nothing like it ever existed! It challenged the prevailing way to "dub" it all! Fast and slow, each and every tune held a grace of sonic wonder. Not many could claim that achievement of sheer sonic wonder!
The version I was sent on cassette let’s the word “crawl” echo, just as it does on the album version, and only then does the drum roll that begins the dub segment begin. I’m now wondering if there are two versions of this dub mix...
Nothing was quite like this song. Yeah there were many similar songs on the album, yet none matched the intensive and brilliant use of bass, drums, vocals, and horns. I thought that it was the best song in 1980!
I just heard this on 1stWave on SiriusXM and HAD to hear it again. Naturally the extended version is much better because I never could get enough of the regular version. Now hear comes the criticism, which I honestly hate to even mention, but this song sounds SOOOOO much better when played loud enough so your neighbors 5 houses down can enjoy hearing it too ;-) Actually what really matters the most isn't so much the wattage but sound QUALITY, and by and large that mostly comes down to 1.) the quality of one's speakers [I like KEFs personally since a lot of their models will go as high as 42,000 hz, which you normally aren't even supposed to be able to hear, but that's a different topic], and 2.) the amount of compression a recording was subjected to (more compression/smaller file size = worse sound). This song should NEVER be played from a compressed file (because hearing it uncompressed vs compressed makes all the difference in the world). Take this song on CD or vinyl LP into a Magnolia Room at a Best Buy (or any audio shop with high-end home theater equipment), tell them to put it up as loud as they'll let you (for that reason it's better to go in when nobody else is there), place yourself dead center in the room, and close your eyes. Oh. My. Gawd. It's like a religious experience. Another song that'll do it too is Night Boat to Cairo. Holeee fuck... When that fog horn goes off... especially if you're listening with a subwoofer that'll go down below 20 hertz into the infrasound range... it's better than an orgasm. This is why I recommend leaving wallets at home because hearing your favorite music for the first time through a high-end sound system can do funny things to men. Anyway, Twist and Crawl is one of if not the very first song one should take with them to have them play. Digital will also work but ONLY if it's been recorded with no compression. And that's my point with this long post: As much as I truly do hate to say this, the sound quality of this recording leaves a bit to be desired. But thanks for posting the extended version anyway though. It's still an awesome song.

Probably ahead of today, I have a list of around 25 songs that I can put on this level
@@barrywhite7158 hmm please tell me 25 songs that were combing punk and dub reggae combined in 1980. I am all ears lol
