  • Hello Guys! I am resuming my RUclips channel after 4.5 years!!! :)
    This is also the first ever video uploaded by me with my voice in it. Please go easy on me!!!
    In 2014, I had created the first installment of this video at • How to Convert Windows... . Although it works, some people reported that it was too hard to follow. So, one year later, I created another installment for it at • Convert Windows 7/8/10... . This is the third installment in the series with the least difficulty level, with one small caveat: You cannot have more than 3 primary partition to begin the procedure.

    Apologies; I haven't yet watched the video, but I have a question. Is there a method for cloning a legacy windows 10 install, and then restoring this clone onto a computer that only supports UEFI? I'm in such a scenario now and the current computer that has the legacy windows 10 on it is so old that it pre-dates UEFI. So I can't convert it on the computer and then clone. Any advice? Fresh install is an absolute last resort and I need to avoid this if at all possible. Thanks!

      Most modern computers support booting in UEFI and legacy mode, both. You should check for an option in your UEFI/BIOS settings which lets you do that. It is either called 'Legacy' or 'CSM'.
      As for cloning the hard disk, you can use one of many methods available. If you are familiar with *nix, one can simply use the tool: dd.
      You can also try following the steps shown in this video on your old machine with your cloned HDD. Just ensure that you point the disk identifier to the cloned HDD for all the steps. After you are done, try booting from this cloned HDD on the modern computer.

    So I just need a Windows ISO on USB to do this? no new Windows key or anything? And when I boot into UEFI at the last step do I pull the USB Drive out or let it in? And my OS is on disk 2 so I just do the \validate \convert tasks on disk 2 right

    • @NehalJWani
      @NehalJWani  3 года назад +1

      Yes, perform the operations on disk 2. No new key needed. You can take out the USB Drive after the last step

      @@NehalJWani Hey man I tried it and I got the first common problem saying ''Disk layout validation failed for disk 2 - the thing is I only have 2 Partitions on the Disk, so thats less than 3 - what can I do?

    One question: is there a problem in using mbr2gpt.exe in Windows 10 with /allowFullOS option?

    This video title is deceptive. I'm trying to convert MBR to GPT on Windows 7 WITHOUT any involvement from Windows 10 and without destroying my data. If I wanted to do this on W10 I could just use the built in tool MBR2GPT without a PE.

      Please read the video description. It has links to two more videos which don't use mbr2gpt tool.

      What did you end up doing to convert your Windows 7 drive to GPT? I'm also trying to convert my Windows 7 to boot from GPT!
