    Like all UNSC Capital Ships, the Pillar of Autumn sported a massive magnetic accelerator cannon, thick titanium armor, but was also augmented with distinct modifications. We'll look at it all on today's Halo Capital Ship lore video.

    • @judaychop
      @judaychop 5 лет назад +19

      trooper games not to mention the middle of a ship is probably easier to target/hit in a battle than the nose of a ship, granted, the Covenant putting the bridge in the middle of a ship was for better protection but both the UNSC and Covenant had weapons capable of piercing a ship, both bridge positions have pros and cons. Im wondering why the Covenant never targeted UNSC bridges with their point to point lasers?

    • @zakiducky
      @zakiducky 5 лет назад +53

      In one of the post-war setting books, a female jackal pirate remarks how she wished covenant ships had transparent viewports and bridges across the vessel like human ships did. That way she could see what the hell is going on outside when the ship is disabled or without normal power. It’s a structural and armor weakness, but it does lend some situational awareness that’s hard to get with just sensor suites and data streams to read on a holo-table or screen. Good for emergencies at the very least.

    • @WaveForceful
      @WaveForceful 5 лет назад +52

      The Spirit of Fire for example had a blast door that covered the bridge view ports when they entered a battle. Perhaps the Autumn had the same.

    • @Ceece20
      @Ceece20 4 года назад +11

      Dániel Bedrossian titanium alloy is actually a thing and is the metal used in all structures as pure titanium is just very cost inefficient and does not contain the necessary properties that alloys get. The only commercial applications that use “pure” titanium are dental and orthopedic. Pure titanium is actually the softest and most ductile. Everything else is just titanium alloy.
      Titanium alloy is mostly titanium with mixture of steel/iron, and other elements with nothing above 10% each. It really just depends on the application and the expense.
      Having said that, fuck if I’ve ever seen a meter thick steel, let alone a 2 meter thick titanium alloy.

      An analogy would be the beating a battleship could endure. The Halcyon before the refit of the autumn was essentially a spacefaring battleship. More expensive than any other ship of its class, indestructable unless scuttled or hit with a WMD, yet struggles in an offensive position. It was retired just as battleships were for similar reasons like insurmountable expenses for creation and maintenance in both the old ships and the halcyon for what amounts to a really beefy troop carrier in the case of the halcyon.

    As for the ship, well all i have to say is that It's superb. Just great.
    The UNSC should have upgraded all Halcyon class cruiser instead of building newer ships. It would have saved resources, while giving them one of the best ships ever, pound for pound.
    I'm pretty sure Halcyon, properly upgraded would have done much better than the standard frigates, destroyers and cruisers.
    And it's probably one of the only ship in the UNSC that can take sustained damage and keep on working. Being able to function with 90% breach is no joke.

      Yeah, definitely. I get what they were wanting to do-super advanced alien tech- and what they were trying to do with the tech of humanity as well-that tech has advanced a lot since Chiefs time- but it didn't seem grounded. It was all very hand wavy in it's reasoning and tech. Like, the Forerunners in the first three games were advanced, sure; but it was a sort of logical advanced. It got pretty out there in the latter games.
      Then there was the Spartan armor. It makes sense from a lore standpoint why they were starting to look so silly, that being marketing tactics by the private malefactors for a more "commercial heroes" look rather than the tactical and utilitarian straight forwardness of the previous Mjolinir armor types, but the fact still remains that the armor from 4 and 5 look pretty fucking stupid.

    • @Meravokas
      @Meravokas 4 года назад +1

      @@0025luke The factor of lore, is actually that items like Ghosts of Onyx are no longer considered proper canon. There's NEVER an explanation of how the remains of Blue Team and Halsey get out of the micro Dyson sphere, how it was found out that that's where they were, anything. Not to mention the radical alterations made to the spartan 3 programs made in other short stories and the actual game Reach. Things started to fall apart as soon as Joe Staten brushed off his hands on Halo Lore. I'm not even going to get started on the whole 'ancient human' civilization thing that was first put in by the Greg Bear novels. Eric Nylund was the best author outside of Joe Staten himself for Halo Lore, pre 09. Everything post ODST/3 I don't consider to be proper canon and in line with Bungie's original line of story telling. Mind you Joe Staten finished Halo with ODST. MS game Studios was the primary writing team for Reach.

      @Helezhelm 4 года назад

      The problem is that his information on how armor is created is wrong because information about how armor is made or what composition of, etc is rather vague. All we know is that its armor plating is made of one alloy that was molecular-enhanced to unknown degree (by using base Titanium-50 as main alloy) followed by misc components like gel, empty spaces, etc. (that also came from Warfleet as well)

    • @Sigma-gb9yd
      @Sigma-gb9yd 4 года назад +2

      @@Helezhelm You see, that's where you're wrong, at least partially. As you said, we don't know for sure what the composition of Ti-A is. So he might be wrong, but he also might be right. I, for one, am compelled to believe him as there is information including the (possible) alloy composition on Halopedia, though it may or may not be correct. As for the composition of the hull itself, he is correct, as all UNSC ships are built as such, minus the honeycomb complex for non-Autumn-class ships
