I'm so excited to show you this cake decorating tutorial. This new Instagram cake trend called sugar sheet is simply beautiful. It is so easy to make, you only need 3 ingredients and simply cover your buttercream cake. Please take note that its a sheet of sugar i wouldn'T suggest eating it but simply remove it once your ready to cut the cake

Yes, as stated below colouring the sugar first would be a very good idea...I think I’d make sure my hands were super clean ( or wear gloves) and use my hands, looked very time consuming using a spoon...I think I would heat the glucose a little to make more fluid as well...I’ve done a similar technique just using fondant and it went well....always good to see different options...
Thanks for the tutorial. Colouring the sugar first and adding glucose later would make the job easier

Or at least adding the color to the glucose, since the glucose all has to be incorporated into the sugar, too.

I'm surprised that, as a cake decorator for 40+ years, I've never seen this technique. But I love it, and would love to try it with buttercream roses coming down the opening of the sugar sheet. Thanks for sharing! :-)

I don't think sugar would react well in the fridge as it may condensate
How do you store the cake? In counter or refrigerate? Also how long will it stand up before/or if it wilts ?
I tried this today. It lasted a couple of hours before if wilted. I would put it on the cake at the very last minute
Beautifull cake! Could have used a freezing bag mix everything and just manipulate till desired result

Thanks Liliana! This is beauriful. A couple of questions. Can the cake be refrigerated after sugar sheet is applied? Is it easy to slice the cake and is this too sweet to eat?

I think in UK we use glucose syrup & in America it's known as Corn Syrup

I wonder if you could wiz this in a food processor to make the mixing easier?

I think it would just grind too much of the sugar, you wouldn't get that crystally effect. Maybe, I don't know, that's just my thinking anyway lol. A stand mixer might be better.
Nope if you put sugar in the food processor you will end up with powered sugar if you go long enough or super fine sugar, also known as bakers sugar instead.
Not a good idea as it will change its properties

theres no baking involve for the sugar sheet

Vera Enechojo if you let it sit too long to dry out it will crack when you apply it to the cake , hope it works well for your cake 😀

before cutting I would just remove the sheet, my personal thing :)

I literally LOVE this cake and I’ve tried to do the sugar sheet (as a trial run) and it doesn’t stand :/ Also the gold painted on kind of melted . Any hints and tips? What have I done wrong? X
ypu probably didn't leave to dry enough.
After coating final whipping cream coat there no need to put the cake in refrigerator? Or directly we can apply the sheet?

personally I wouldn't feed a sheet of sugar just to have as a beautiful presentation. then , when you a ready to cut just remove it :)

Beautiful. Do you think Dr oathker glucose syrup will be perfect thou it's not as thick like the one you used.Because finding wilton or other brands is difficult here.only Dr oathker is possible to get.
it just has to be glucose syrup no need to be by Wilton :)
I guess Naza Fred is concerned by the varying thickness across these brands. I’ve also noticed the same...

normally you remove it before cutting.

I tried but i reached the crumble point and it didn't turn to a something i can roll at all. Can i heat it a little bit
it probable because you didn't have enough glucose syrup or because you didn't mix enough
Best way is colour the sugar first melt your glucose syrup abit then mix..that way it's easier

yes, but you can use, whipped cream, ganache...

yes it can, it's just going to become hard like a rock. But that sheet to my personal likings , is not meant to be eaten. its more for a show. when you are ready to cut the cake just remove it.
