I did an APIM and display swap, most functions work but I’ve noticed my equalizer always goes back too the middle after I adjust the sound, and no voice on CarPlay navigation.
The one you linked in the description is not the same in the video and I’m having a lot of problems
I downloaded sync 3 on a USB and that was all I needed with $50 usb replacement to get CarPlay in my 2016 f150

Does this support reverse camera? I have a reverse camera that usually shows up on my sync 2 display and really want to get this but if it doesn't show the reverse camera maybe I wont.

hello, i have a question for you, you already had two usb ports, one AUX and one SD, did you need to replace them to make sync 3 work, or were the ones you already had fine? i ask you this question because i have a ford ka plus with sync 2 and i'm switching to sync 3, and my car already has an AUX and a USB port and i don't know if i need to change like you did with the two usb ports. what do you think?
Yes you need to change to the one provided.
Is it worth paying the extra for the factory navigation? Everything I do is on google maps from my phone anyway and from what it sounds like the extra money for the nav is not necessary. What do you think?
I haven’t used factory navigation in any of my vehicles since CarPlay became a thing. Google maps is my go-to and I haven’t looked back since.

Didn’t loose anything that I am aware of. The only thing I noticed is you can’t change your background/wallpaper to whatever you want. Otherwise, nothing else.

I had Sync 3 in my 2018 F150 but I wanted one of those 12.1” screens. But like you, no way I could spend two grand on one. But I found a refurb unit on EBay for $280 and I put it in. I like it but I lost the Sync 3 features. I still have Apple Car Play. Cheap way to try something out.

Nice! I wanted to keep this as simple as possible without interfering with any of the basic functions of the truck. Definitely some great aftermarket options, but for the cost, it was a no brainer for me.

Hey man, quick question- looking to get a F150 and wanted to get your opinion on what’s the better value? I’m looking at F150s from 2015-2017 and I basically see two options, either I get a good F150 for 25k or a Raptor for $35k ish . Wanted to get your thoughts whether the raptor was worth the extra $10k or not? Your F150 looks like a beauty so obviously getting the $25k and having $10k in mods is a viable option and I think potentially the better option in terms of performance & aesthetics but I may but downpaying the cost it takes to mod the F150. So yeah your opinion would be helpful! Thanks 🙏🏽
Raptors are awesome trucks. If you have a need for all of the Raptor performance parts, I would say go for it. Although, you’ll be looking at a much higher mileage raptor than a normal f150 in the same price category. Both great trucks, just what you need it for is what the determining factor is.

I seen a tesla style screen that retains sync. i'm wondering why you didn't go with that. i would post a link but you already spend 700 bucks and i would hate to tempt you to spend another 1k. was pretty neat. me if was upgrading to get carplay/android auto i would have spent the extra 300 bucks. retained the sync so your backup cams and all the normal ford feautes worked. DeaninItYourself has a video on it. but i do understand the want to keep the stock look.
I saw them but wanted something OEM and keep all the factory functionality.
@Scoobyfreak86 the one I seen you bolt the sync to the back of it. And it has a button that brings up your sync in a window on the tablet. Same as if it's on the 8" screen.
Nice video! Also… when you connect to CarPlay is it Bluetooth? Or do you need to connect with you’re usb charger and then it will go to apply CarPlay?
Thanks! Bluetooth disconnects when you connect to carplay and bleutooth turns on when you disconnect from carplay.

Not directly with the stock sync 3. You’ll need another module to do that.

As long as the factory harness is there, then yes is can be replaced with it.

Yes you can upgrade if you have the 4” as well.
How has the GPS / NAV worked out for you?
I only use CarPlay so haven’t tried the units navigation yet.

I just love what you’ve done with your truck. I have a 16’ Lariat and i’ve done lots to it. I want that version of sync as it’s the next gen from mine but newer than your original one. I heard of a software called Cyan Labs that lets me do this without buying a new head unit so I’m going to give that a go.

Thanks for the very in-depth video. It gave me confidence to try it on my own explorer . After Christmas of course. My 2017 got totaled and had to go with a 2016. Only had car play for 6months but was almost ready to return this vehicle for lack of that feature mostly. Sounds ridiculous but I’m in my vehicle a lot and what a difference it makes. Thanks
Appreciate your content man I have been following you for 2 years now. Just sold my STI for a 16 F150. So I just wanted to throw you a big thanks for continuing your content. I was hoping this one would help however I have the Sync 3 in my 16 guess it was an option back then but I can’t get CarPlay for the life of me. Took me 3 hours last night to successfully update and it has a few new things but not CarPlay. So I have to keep on hunting for the solution.
But you certainly helped me and I don’t miss my Sti much since I got the truck surprisingly and very happy I made the jump.
cyanlabs can get your 16 F150 to version 3.4. gets you the blue look like the one in this video. I did the same thing spent all day getting my version to 3.0.20204 and found cyan labs and got it to 3.4, took me 7 mins with the cyan lab thing. i don't have nav it takes 45 mins with nav. and all for free.
get yourself an updated USB hub it will then allow you to use carplay. the part number is HC3Z-19A387-B. do not update to 3.4 without updating the usb hub or the usb ports will no longer work. also the usb hub upgrade will get you carplay without updating to 3.4. just need to be version 2.0 or higher.
Hey man I believe you just need that new usb adapter that he used in the video. Should just swap out with the old one and you will get apple CarPlay.

Nathan is correct. You need the usb hub he showed in the video for CarPlay to work in your 16. Was the same in my wife’s 2016 Edge.
