  • Recorded Live in the Manton Auditorium at The Clark on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Presented as part of the Clark's Artists' Books Day, Alexandra J. Gold discusses artist book collaborations between contemporary painters and poets. Her presentation highlights Black Mountain poet Robert Creeley and renowned visual artist Robert Indiana’s Numbers (1968). Numbers features a series of Creeley's poems (printed in both English and German) that correspond to ten Indiana silkscreens of the numbers 0-9. Gold presents Numbers alongside a live reading of Creeley’s poems by local performance artist and Williams College student Jazmin Morenzi.
Dr. Alexandra J. Gold, a faculty member in the Harvard Writing Program, holds a Ph.D. in English from Boston University, as well as a bachelor of arts degree in English and political science and a master's in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Her teaching and research interests include post-45 American poetry and visual art, gender and sexuality studies, and popular culture. Her first book, The Collaborative Artist's Book: Evolving Ideas in Poetry & Art (University of Iowa Press, Contemporary North American Poetry Series, 2023), looks at five collaborations between painters and poets in artist's book form.
Jazmin Morenzi (they/she) is a first-year student at Williams College. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but has spent most of her life in Monterey, California, and New York City. They hope to major in geosciences and English and concentrate on cognitive science. At Williams, Morenzi is a musician who participates in the Berkshire Symphony and the Williams chamber music program. She is also a frequent participant in Williams Outdoor Club activities. Morenzi has also utilized the special collections at Williams to engage in archival research surrounding second-wave feminism. In their free time, Morenzi enjoys reading, hiking, and cooking.
