More spiraling and sperging from Tom and his followers. MK11’s first 4 months felt like the end of MKx’s lifecycle and MKx’s first 4 months felt like the end of mk9’s lifecycle. This is the lifecycle of NRS games. NRS releases a new fighter and everyone and their mother is excited for a season and then the casuals abandon the game while the folks lingering sit around and complain about the game. The reason for this is simple. There isn’t really a MK competitive scene. They’ve never had one the way Tekken, sf, KOF, or any other fighter has. This is became MK never left its party game phase. Even smash was able to leave that era behind, which is why only the handful of middle aged men still sit around and play smash64, lol, while claiming it’s the best smash of all time. MK’s competitive fighting scene had some hope during 2010-2012, but they sabotaged themselves because the guys that were running the scene were a bunch of immature, self-important man-children that couldn’t control their libidos or egos. Feedback is one thing but sitting around and crying about a game is different. Tom and his zealous followers aren’t giving feedback, they’re just crying about the game because they don’t like the way it plays, it’s that simple. I don’t like the way Doom plays, it’s too fast and it just feels unnatural. So guess what? I played maybe a total of 3 hours of the game and moved on. I’m not going to sit there and sperg out about everything “wrong” with the game and make video after video crying about it. YOU MOVE ON. I’ll tell you what the problem is. The problem is a lot of these guys crying about MK1 have nothing better to do. They don’t have a job, they don’t have children to look after, they’re immature and haven’t grown up, and so they have to sit around and find a way to pass time. People need jobs man, they need to go outside and stay off these electronics and social media. Go get a job, meet a girl IRL, not off the internet. Have a child, work towards a personal goal that betters your life. These are video games, they’re designed to entertain you like a movie or TV show. Why are grown men spiraling over this bs? She would probably feel so uncomfortable and like her life was in danger but these guys have zero self-awareness.

I love mk1. In terms of gameplay, I think it’s the best MK they’ve ever made. The only people that are surprised about why MK’s competitive scene isn’t popular are two kinds of people. Vets like Tom Brady that have always complained about MK and remained relevant with that kind of content and newcomers who haven’t been around for the last 15-20 years. MK has never been a super popular game in the FGC (or esports), it’s literally a joke. High level FGC players have always mocked MK, especially the Asian players and never regarded it as a serious fighter. MK9 had a cool local scene in the east coast during its first year or so but that was because it was built off the foundation that guys like Shock created when they were running UMK3 tournaments just before MK9 was released. The UMK3 players essentially jumped ship and started playing MK9 and there was all this hype surrounding the game because of it returning to 2D but the game was still mocked and dropped by all the FGC players who were into SF, Tekken, and other fighters that are super popular in the competitive scene. MK9 being at MLG was cool but you can go back and watch those videos and literally hear players outside the MK9 seating area going ballistic over other games there. MK has always had a very niche crowd, as far as the competitive scene is concerned. MKX had slightly more life in it but it was coming off Injustice’s success which was also regarded as a joke by the FGC in general. The FGC players were into that game for about a season before they went back to their games and then it was basically SonicFox dominating the scene until MKX came out, which once again was a joke to the FGC. MK is always hype for casuals when a new game is released and then when new content comes out for their new game, same goes for injustice and that’s because the scene has never had a deep following in the competitive scene. MK1 may have had some flaws upon its release but it’s a great game. I enjoy the invasions mode and sure it gets a little repetitive but I prefer unlocking palettes, gears, and costumes that way vs the challenge towers from mk11 which were tedious and not even that rewarding. There are occasions in invasion mode where winning a fight or tower results in you unlocking 4-5 skins and palettes and leveling your characters is so much easier compared to mk11. Every time MK comes out, it’s always the same people trashing it and then convincing randoms that the game is terrible. Let’s be honest, MK is not a great compared to other fighters. I love MK but my love for it has a lot to do with nostalgia but these games have always been some of the worst fighting games of all time, in terms of balance and it’s because of how the game is designed. MK has no character archetypes and it’s a game known for containment specials, teleports, and fireballs. You could never balance a game like MK properly because the optimized way of playing the game and winning consistently is based on picking a character that has the most utility. In SF, you could have a character that can deal so much damage because of combos or damage buffs. Like Seth in sf4, but his high damage output came at a cost, he was a glass cannon. He had no health, he could get stunned by some characters in one combo and so there was a risk/reward for using him. MK doesn’t do that with their characters, they basically give specials and normals to characters that reflect their personalities. I’ve never taken MK seriously, I’ve never taken injustice seriously either. These games are just super fun to play and anyone that is surprised that the game isn’t balanced is just creating easy content or they’re just new to MK. I’ve been hearing Tom Brady complain about MK for years. I’m not a tournament player but I’ve always been an online player who was once a major stream monster and now I’m in my 30’s and just enjoy this game for what it is. NRS will never make a super balanced fighter. Their games are just fun to play for me because they’re super easy to pick up and once you learn how the system works. All the characters basically function the same and with basically little skill, you can pull off super flashy combos and have a ton of fun. The kameo system to me was the most epic thing they could have done because my first MK was trilogy and it will forever be my favorite and the reason it’s my favorite is because it had so many characters in the game. I’ve always wanted to see motaro in a new game for example but I’ve understood the challenge it would be for him to be in it because of his design but with the kameo system, he gets the opportunity to make an appearance, even if he is just an assist. Idk that’s just how I feel 🤷🏼♂️

It should have been a side mode, but some fool at NRS decided to make kameo part of core gameplay 🤦🏻♂️ as soon as they announced it, I immediately said that it is a bad idea… but I was called dumb, boring etc… and here we are 🤷🏼♂️ I guess my game design skills proved that I was right

Because it is a better game overall. People always shit on the newest Mortal Kombat game. People always say the newest one is the worse one, it happens with every new release. Mortal Kombat 11 was a good game in my opinion. Sure, it had its problems, we all know what they were at this point, but compared to Mortal Kombat 1, you're not going to convince me that game is better. The player base did not drop off massively in Mortal Kombat 11 so early in its life like Mortal Kombat 1. That is enough proof which game is better. Mortal Kombat 11 was more polished at launch, had the krypt, and had more custom options. I will even go as far as to say that the gameplay is better in Mortal Kombat 11, which I know is a hot take. All you see in Mortal Kombat 1 are the same characters, and cameos, over and over again. There is no variety of opponents to fight against. It gets boring quickly playing that game. Mortal Kombat 11 had modes at launch that Mortal Kombat 1 still does not have, like online practice mode.
Gameplay decisions in mk11 just don't cut it for me. Breakaway, unbalanced krushing blows, instant fatal blows, and the poke mash. For all those reasons I prefer MK1
I stopped playing mk1 like 3 months ago. Still love listening to Tom’s breakdowns and latest updates. Really wish we were at a better state of the game. But i’m not going back unless significant changes are made, which seems unlikely. Oh well, at least I have FF7 Rebirth to keep my mind off it :)
I haven’t played one of these games since MKX and I just like listening to Tom’s breakdowns on why this game sucks, why he’s right, and why NRS refuses to evolve. Used to be a big fan of these games in the early days and mkx was like a renaissance for MK but since they have repeatedly dropped the ball.

The reasoning is super stupid tbh. Saying to people who paid 70$ (for a game that isn't justifying it's price tag) that they should just accept it and move on. That's the dumbest argument you could ever make. You're the consumer, you bought the product. If it's not what's advertised or enough to be valued at the price it is. Then you have all the right to complain about it and not have it swept under the rug. MK is a franchise everyone loves for years and we want it to be great. So yeah, players should be upset if it's becoming underwhelming.
here’s how you can fix this INJUSTICE with MK characters of a game. -first of all the colours , tune them down make it darker and grittier cuz it’s MK -make it visually look better and more realistic cuz hell it’s cartoonish compared to its predecessor -change the camera angle cuz the characters look too small on the screen -add more modes such as NON KAMEO mode -add interactables and objects that are destructible -add more stages and breathtaking stage soundtracks like the shang tsung’s island’s soundtrack on mk11, and make the stages look more lively -give each character atleast 8-10 more brutalities, and 1 or 2 more fatalities if not adding friendships or so. -add more customisation options more cosmetics more skins -add atleast 16 more characters and give some of the characters a mid who don’t have one at all -hell remove invasions replace it with KRYPT -add a wifi filter -change the main menu background theme and music on each season like call of duty warzone did -change the sound of hitboxes make it sound like mkx’s or mk11’s -add lobbies -release story DLCs asap -nerf the damage on every character and remove the (KAMEO KEEPS YOU SAFE ON MINUS FRAMES) bullsht make it so when you do something unsafe on block the kameo doesn’t come out right away to prevent you from getting punished , or the kameo is disabled for a certain amount of time, meaning the kameo can only keep you safe once in a while so that people don’t spam the kameo to keep it safe. with that being said god i hate the Kameos idea who ever thought of it needs to get fired and start a new job at McDonald’s. -add mercies -give the facial textures a bit more details make them look more human than anime -fix the unrealistic head drop or body parts drop on brutalities and the blood effects on them. -Oh and btw fk micro transactions, make the skins and fatalities and other stuff not cost real money lol or have them be purchasable with ingame currency as well if they’re to cost real money. . there’s much more to be said still but ffs as if they’re gonna listen anyway.

Yeah when you have an issue with something you should speak up. There have been times where people have voiced out their displeasures with a piece of media and because of that it ended up getting changed (ex the original Sonic from the 1st Sonic movie trailer looked terrible and when people complained they changed him and he looked better) You cant let NRS keep getting away with putting out crap. If you don’t let them know, then nothing will be changed.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat since 1993 that even bought those God awful spinoff jams. MK1 has turned me against one of my favorite franchises and absolutely despise Ed Boon. There's a pretty good chance I will never come back to Mortal Kombat. And the shils are also a factor in that.

Tom I gotta disagree on something you said earlier about the fatalities and gore selling this game franchise. Because if you say that the last game sold well and the current game sold well...there it has to be a reason. And it ain't the gameplay. When you have Justin Wong saying MK11 is boring..and he is playing a modded version of MK2 instead of the current game then there is a problem. So if these games are so boring then what is selling them? The PRESENTATION. THE graphics, the gore, the story mode. At the end of the day Pig can say whatever he wants but he is not relevant in the competitive scene and hasn't been since MKX. MKX..a game that multiple SF and Tekken players fucked with. The last two or 3 NRS games is on barely anyone's radar.
I paid like $100 and played the game for a few hours. I wish the game was better bc I like Mk and played the hell out of the past 2 but I can’t grind Mk1 without getting bored it seems.

I deleted the game. It's not worth it. 1st off, they made it the most easiest version of MK to win in by simply spamming & poking. Some character down 1's & standing 1 attacks don't even have the range to punish your opponents, Geras or Scorpion for example. All of Smoke's specials are full screen while most of Reptile & Scorpions specials have the range of a rusty musket. And they've nerfed every cameo except for Serena, the most cheapest & aggravating cameo in the game. Speaking of cameos, they were supposed to be a fun compliment to the gameplay but instead has become a crutch. Every character has maybe 2 or 3 combos each, except, jOnNy CaGe(side eye). So they added cameos to supplement the lack of moves they gave us to work with. You literally see the same rehash of combos watching or playing online with people; and if it's not that, then it's the same spam, poke, 1 2 cameo wash rinse & repeat. I had to delete it made me destroy a joystick and my headset. I haven't been that angry since I was 15. MK1 is trash. It hurts to say it, but it is. I really could say more but I'll leave it there. I'd be surprised if they can fix this.

I have a very simple conclusion about this game right now. I ultimately play these games for the character gameplay. Of nrs titles, there are maybe 2 or 3 characters I enjoy more in this game than any of the previous games I played (Mk11, Mkx, and a little bit of mk9). I’d argue Baraka is potentially the most satisfying he’s been to play since nrs games, and Kenshi because of sento but I really liked mkx and mk9 Kenshi anyway. I think some others on the mk1 roster are kinda satisfying but not as satisfying as old games. I know this game needs quality of life improvements and better alternative features, but I don’t care when that shit is missing from mkx because I can pick up so many characters that I just have fun with. All of this could also simply be the product of the kameo system, but so many main roster are shells of fun I had with previous versions (mkx Liu, raiden, scorpion, Kitana, mileena, Johnny, Lao, etc).
To Super's defense he came back to mk11 because his community ask him to play it (why the clickbait on his title), in that vid he explains and knows the state of mk1 and finding ways to up his channel. Not that he needs someone to defend him, just a fan of his channel since he introduce me to play nrs games or any fighting games. I don’t like the way Doom plays, it’s too fast and it just feels unnatural. So guess what? I played maybe a total of 3 hours of the game and moved on. I’ll tell you what the problem is. The problem is a lot of these guys crying about MK1 have nothing better to do. They don’t have a job, they don’t have children to look after, they’re immature and haven’t grown up, and so they have to sit around and find a way to pass time.

I love mk1. In terms of gameplay, I think it’s the best MK they’ve ever made. The only people that are surprised about why MK’s competitive scene isn’t popular are two kinds of people. Vets like Tom Brady that have always complained about MK and remained relevant with that kind of content and newcomers who haven’t been around for the last 15-20 years.
MK has never been a super popular game in the FGC (or esports), it’s literally a joke. High level FGC players have always mocked MK, especially the Asian players and never regarded it as a serious fighter. MK9 had a cool local scene in the east coast during its first year or so but that was because it was built off the foundation that guys like Shock created when they were running UMK3 tournaments just before MK9 was released. The UMK3 players essentially jumped ship and started playing MK9 and there was all this hype surrounding the game because of it returning to 2D but the game was still mocked and dropped by all the FGC players who were into SF, Tekken, and other fighters that are super popular in the competitive scene.
MK9 being at MLG was cool but you can go back and watch those videos and literally hear players outside the MK9 seating area going ballistic over other games there. MK has always had a very niche crowd, as far as the competitive scene is concerned.
MKX had slightly more life in it but it was coming off Injustice’s success which was also regarded as a joke by the FGC in general. The FGC players were into that game for about a season before they went back to their games and then it was basically SonicFox dominating the scene until MKX came out, which once again was a joke to the FGC.
MK is always hype for casuals when a new game is released and then when new content comes out for their new game, same goes for injustice and that’s because the scene has never had a deep following in the competitive scene.
MK1 may have had some flaws upon its release but it’s a great game. I enjoy the invasions mode and sure it gets a little repetitive but I prefer unlocking palettes, gears, and costumes that way vs the challenge towers from mk11 which were tedious and not even that rewarding. There are occasions in invasion mode where winning a fight or tower results in you unlocking 4-5 skins and palettes and leveling your characters is so much easier compared to mk11.
Every time MK comes out, it’s always the same people trashing it and then convincing randoms that the game is terrible. Let’s be honest, MK is not a great compared to other fighters. I love MK but my love for it has a lot to do with nostalgia but these games have always been some of the worst fighting games of all time, in terms of balance and it’s because of how the game is designed.
MK has no character archetypes and it’s a game known for containment specials, teleports, and fireballs. You could never balance a game like MK properly because the optimized way of playing the game and winning consistently is based on picking a character that has the most utility. In SF, you could have a character that can deal so much damage because of combos or damage buffs. Like Seth in sf4, but his high damage output came at a cost, he was a glass cannon. He had no health, he could get stunned by some characters in one combo and so there was a risk/reward for using him. MK doesn’t do that with their characters, they basically give specials and normals to characters that reflect their personalities.
I’ve never taken MK seriously, I’ve never taken injustice seriously either. These games are just super fun to play and anyone that is surprised that the game isn’t balanced is just creating easy content or they’re just new to MK.
I’ve been hearing Tom Brady complain about MK for years. I’m not a tournament player but I’ve always been an online player who was once a major stream monster and now I’m in my 30’s and just enjoy this game for what it is.
NRS will never make a super balanced fighter. Their games are just fun to play for me because they’re super easy to pick up and once you learn how the system works. All the characters basically function the same and with basically little skill, you can pull off super flashy combos and have a ton of fun. The kameo system to me was the most epic thing they could have done because my first MK was trilogy and it will forever be my favorite and the reason it’s my favorite is because it had so many characters in the game. I’ve always wanted to see motaro in a new game for example but I’ve understood the challenge it would be for him to be in it because of his design but with the kameo system, he gets the opportunity to make an appearance, even if he is just an assist.

Mortal Kombat 11 was a good game in my opinion. Sure, it had its problems, we all know what they were at this point, but compared to Mortal Kombat 1, you're not going to convince me that game is better. The player base did not drop off massively in Mortal Kombat 11 so early in its life like Mortal Kombat 1. That is enough proof which game is better. Mortal Kombat 11 was more polished at launch, had the krypt, and had more custom options. I will even go as far as to say that the gameplay is better in Mortal Kombat 11, which I know is a hot take. All you see in Mortal Kombat 1 are the same characters, and cameos, over and over again. There is no variety of opponents to fight against. It gets boring quickly playing that game. Mortal Kombat 11 had modes at launch that Mortal Kombat 1 still does not have, like online practice mode.
Gameplay decisions in mk11 just don't cut it for me. Breakaway, unbalanced krushing blows, instant fatal blows, and the poke mash. For all those reasons I prefer MK1
I stopped playing mk1 like 3 months ago. Still love listening to Tom’s breakdowns and latest updates. Really wish we were at a better state of the game. But i’m not going back unless significant changes are made, which seems unlikely. Oh well, at least I have FF7 Rebirth to keep my mind off it :)

The reasoning is super stupid tbh. Saying to people who paid 70$ (for a game that isn't justifying it's price tag) that they should just accept it and move on. That's the dumbest argument you could ever make. You're the consumer, you bought the product. If it's not what's advertised or enough to be valued at the price it is. Then you have all the right to complain about it and not have it swept under the rug. MK is a franchise everyone loves for years and we want it to be great. So yeah, players should be upset if it's becoming underwhelming.

here’s how you can fix this INJUSTICE with MK characters of a game.
-first of all the colours , tune them down make it darker and grittier cuz it’s MK
-make it visually look better and more realistic cuz hell it’s cartoonish compared to its predecessor
-change the camera angle cuz the characters look too small on the screen
-add more modes such as NON KAMEO mode
-add interactables and objects that are destructible
-add more stages and breathtaking stage soundtracks like the shang tsung’s island’s soundtrack on mk11, and make the stages look more lively
-give each character atleast 8-10 more brutalities, and 1 or 2 more fatalities if not adding friendships or so.
-add more customisation options more cosmetics more skins
-add atleast 16 more characters and give some of the characters a mid who don’t have one at all
-hell remove invasions replace it with KRYPT
-add a wifi filter
-change the main menu background theme and music on each season like call of duty warzone did
-change the sound of hitboxes make it sound like mkx’s or mk11’s
-add lobbies
-release story DLCs asap
-nerf the damage on every character and remove the (KAMEO KEEPS YOU SAFE ON MINUS FRAMES) bullsht make it so when you do something unsafe on block the kameo doesn’t come out right away to prevent you from getting punished , or the kameo is disabled for a certain amount of time, meaning the kameo can only keep you safe once in a while so that people don’t spam the kameo to keep it safe. with that being said god i hate the Kameos idea who ever thought of it needs to get fired and start a new job at McDonald’s.
-add mercies
-give the facial textures a bit more details make them look more human than anime
-fix the unrealistic head drop or body parts drop on brutalities and the blood effects on them.
-Oh and btw fk micro transactions, make the skins and fatalities and other stuff not cost real money lol or have them be purchasable with ingame currency as well if they’re to cost real money.

Because if you say that the last game sold well and the current game sold well...there it has to be a reason. And it ain't the gameplay. When you have Justin Wong saying MK11 is boring..and he is playing a modded version of MK2 instead of the current game then there is a problem. So if these games are so boring then what is selling them? The PRESENTATION. THE graphics, the gore, the story mode. At the end of the day Pig can say whatever he wants but he is not relevant in the competitive scene and hasn't been since MKX. MKX..a game that multiple SF and Tekken players fucked with. The last two or 3 NRS games is on barely anyone's radar.

I paid like $100 and played the game for a few hours. I wish the game was better bc I like Mk and played the hell out of the past 2 but I can’t grind Mk1 without getting bored it seems.

I deleted the game. It's not worth it. 1st off, they made it the most easiest version of MK to win in by simply spamming & poking. Some character down 1's & standing 1 attacks don't even have the range to punish your opponents, Geras or Scorpion for example. All of Smoke's specials are full screen while most of Reptile & Scorpions specials have the range of a rusty musket. And they've nerfed every cameo except for Serena, the most cheapest & aggravating cameo in the game.
Speaking of cameos, they were supposed to be a fun compliment to the gameplay but instead has become a crutch. Every character has maybe 2 or 3 combos each, except, jOnNy CaGe(side eye). So they added cameos to supplement the lack of moves they gave us to work with.
You literally see the same rehash of combos watching or playing online with people; and if it's not that, then it's the same spam, poke, 1 2 cameo wash rinse & repeat.
I had to delete it made me destroy a joystick and my headset. I haven't been that angry since I was 15.
MK1 is trash.

NRS right now is basically everything negative about human nature. Humans tend to be lazy, take shortcuts, and continue doing the bare minimum until forced otherwise. There is no imagination or passion.

I have a very simple conclusion about this game right now. I ultimately play these games for the character gameplay. Of nrs titles, there are maybe 2 or 3 characters I enjoy more in this game than any of the previous games I played (Mk11, Mkx, and a little bit of mk9). I’d argue Baraka is potentially the most satisfying he’s been to play since nrs games, and Kenshi because of sento but I really liked mkx and mk9 Kenshi anyway. I think some others on the mk1 roster are kinda satisfying but not as satisfying as old games.
I know this game needs quality of life improvements and better alternative features, but I don’t care when that shit is missing from mkx because I can pick up so many characters that I just have fun with. All of this could also simply be the product of the kameo system, but so many main roster are shells of fun I had with previous versions (mkx Liu, raiden, scorpion, Kitana, mileena, Johnny, Lao, etc).
To Super's defense he came back to mk11 because his community ask him to play it (why the clickbait on his title), in that vid he explains and knows the state of mk1 and finding ways to up his channel. Not that he needs someone to defend him, just a fan of his channel since he introduce me to play nrs games or any fighting games.
Maybe the only reason he plays nrs games because he really loves their fighting games. I love all fighting games and as of now been playing tekken8, stop playing mk1 since tekken 8 came up, and I agree with the lack of content and repetitive gameplay of mk1. Wish they improve it
