Starting at the end and working back, (because I’m not the most logical of people), I suddenly realised that it’s all over for me as I seem to prefer watching a kitchen re-org to anything on make-up! That’s because my disinterest in it has grown relative to the age I’ve reached. It’s a hard one isn’t it? As you wittily said ‘we don’t want to scare the horses’, but then I remember that old saying about ‘putting lipstick on a pig’. So I go in fits and starts with make-up. Do what makes you happy with your hobbies Linda, as they are supposed to be our happy place and relaxing. I like colouring too ! But photography is mine and my husband’s joint happiness. All the gear and no idea, we tramp the countryside laden down with tons of equipment taking mediocre pics we think are marvellous but even bore the cat, and most people can do it better and quicker with their mobile phones. But it’s OUR fun. And as for that ‘amuse the child’ thing, I was given another example of that on a bus only yesterday, when a restless baby was immediately shown a video on mum’s mobile. And she quietened down and watched avidly. I can understand the temptation to do it but it seriously makes me wonder if it’s the best idea? Because the outcome does seem to be that kids need to be amused and placated with ‘things’ all the time. But maybe better and kinder than the clip round the ear we’d have got for not sitting still in my childhood. 😄
