Thanks to everyone for the support so far!
The MGU really interests me but having lived with a 26KG bike for the last few years I really want to move to something more lightweight because hauing the thing around physically is just a pain in the ass. I am looking forward to seeing some lightweight MGU options in future.
It’s far too heavy, don’t fancy lifting that on the roof of me Porsche 😂
This Bike Might Look Good and its interesting, But Just Far Too Costly For a Cycle at £12,000 !!!
A Gearbox Always Has Drag As Lots of Gears are Always Turning So You Loose Power and its Too Heavy at Nearly 27Kg,I Have Had an E Bike With Rohloff 14 Speed Rear Hub and a Belt and it Was 26Kg and i Found the Belt Tension Looses Power and Gears Can Crunch and Make Noise and Found it Too Heavy and a Pain to Lift !!!
Just Because Combined Motor Gearbox Has Just Started to Be Made Does Not Mean You Should Sell Everything To Buy One!!I Would Waite a Few Years For Others to Come out That Should be Lighter and a Lot Cheaper,I Would Think Shimano and Bosch Will Make Something Soon????
I think price is relative: this bike is literally half the price of my house, but then to people buying super cars and art it’s nothing for a new toy
The gearbox will have drag, but that doesn’t really matter with a motor.
27kg is heavy, but all heavy duty parts. If you wanted to spend a fortune on light parts that will break you might be able to get it down to 23kg
Waiting a few years for new products to settle in is always a good move!
@@astonmtb2428 Yes,The Bikes They Make are all For Rich People,They Dont Make Cheap Bikes.
But The Money To be Made is Not Only selling a Few at a High Price But to Get the Price Down and Sell 100,000 With Gearbox,Not Just 1,000
That Way More People Benefit Not Just the Rich Few,Its Not a Rolls Royce Were Talking about Here,Just a Thing You Ride under Your own Power.
Ship to the US and ill pay today :)
This is the content we want to see😮
Best eBike so far. Mainly because of Pinion MGU
I want this bike so badly, it''s what I have been asking for, for a few years now! Too bad you can't send it to North America....sadface.
Well, if you win you can still choose a sweet G1 complete bike!
You can ship pretty much anything anywhere these days.
@@Silverbeardedsurfer batteries are a pita. That's why they can't ship the ebike to NA.
love the idea behind this bike, but the sizing is asinine. Their "small" is what most other companies would call Large.
31.6 seat tube. Why not just go to 34.9 and not deal with the flimsy posts for this market.
The sizing is utterly stupid! How could someone 160cm tall comfortably ride a bike with a 468mm reach!? 😅I'm 172cm tall and my longest bike is 465mm and that's on the absolute limited for me. I can just get comfy seated and that's with a 78deg seat tube, 35mm stem and 10deg backsweep bars.
Ffs, won't be this year but think next this has to be next bike, my nukeproof megawatt is incredible but i love this, the gearbox is the biggest draw for me!
Try to put a rohloff
I've always admired Nicolai but I never commited to save up for one. This bike changes that, this is the bike I've been waiting for! 👍
And it will cost as much as a 60hp ICE dirtbike.
And yet I can't get one in Australia.. if someone is willing to help I'll be glad
What is the top speed of this bike without pedaling, and range?
If you want a battery trail bike...this is the bike.
Bold statement at the start. But the size on these bikes is WILD! The SMALLEST has 468mm reach, 1283mm wheelbase. It's enormous. Can't see that being fun on a steep tight track or anything remotely alpine
Did you get your frame kit already?
It maybe the best, but unfortunately in this economic climate, it will struggle to sell in numbers, there's too many quality bikes for sale & much much cheaper, the key in these times to sell bikes is cost 🤪
A lot of people in their thirties, forties and fifties are making bank in the current economic climate and if you think otherwise you are seriously mistaken. The kind of people who spend 11k on a Nicolai MGU are not the same people who work in low-paid jobs and struggle to pay out a few grand on luxuries. In every populous Western country there are many, many tens of thousands of people on high salaries with money to spend on their hobbies.
Hi
nice review. i have ordered one but was thinking of different rear shock, do you have any recomendations for a replacment????
Kitsuma coil. The Fox has staring leaking already too 🥹
@@astonmtb2428 No way how many miles has the bike done?????
@@astonmtb2428 Thanks for that
@@astonmtb2428 I have asked if i can get the CC Kitsumma🤘
no one can find one for sale bike pron
Lol geometry numbers are meh. Best emtb is quite a bit of reach honestly.
that'll be great if they sell just the frame and mgu going forward.
You have to spend 2 to 3 years on the Magura to see the problems, they are a pain in the ass after few years.
Interesting - are you saying that the brakes need replacing in addition to brake pad wear?
absolutely, the plastic flexes, the piston membrane ends leaking and levers are weak.
Yeah, i had the same experience. You need to replace the lever body after 2-3 years of hard use. Mine have started to leak at that point. But with new masters you have fantastic brakes again for a few years.
Had 140mm headtube length on my Banshee Paradox V3. Wouldn’t take my Fox 49. Sold it because of it. You will never find a nice used front fork because nobody has kept the steerer long enough.
I prefer 120mm headtube length. Gives you more options in the long run.
You should compare it to a LMX bike!
why not buy the fork and then just get a new crown? - or do you mean you eat too much into the stanchion regardless?
@@tehsimo The Banshee Paradox headtube was longer than the maximum headtube length allowed for the Fox 40 or Fox 49. New crown, old crown, doesn't matter.
@@rewind9536 ah right and the cut comment was about a single crown fork? think I got ya now.
@@tehsimo I agree my comment was a bit confused. First it was about how frustrating it was for me to have a frame like the Banshee Paradox V3, with a long headtube (140mm plus headset) that would not allow me to try out a Fox 40. Then I am talking about this frame, that has an even longer headtube, and since it can't take a Fox 40 anyway, I am talking only about single crown forks. I meant that the customer would need to buy a new single crown fork, instead of getting lucky on the used market. This could be useful when the original fork gets too scratched or blow a seal. Bikes change forks all the time, it happens. I am guessing that changing crowns on single crown forks can be a bit risky, unless you are really good with cryo treatment that shrinks the metal.
good good good watch. keep it rolling. that spare part guarantee would mean more than the actual garanty
Does the Nicolai warranty include the battery ??
You’re a tall fella (as is Rob) and yet this seems enormous with either of you beside this bike. Why’s that please? The angles and frame lengths seem ‘normal modern’ for a large frame, so that doesn’t explain it. Is it because it’s long and the head tube is so tall? Anyway, very exciting series, thanks 🎉🎉🎉
Probably because we are both super lanky 😂. The downtube on this bike is probably thicker than my thighs!
Thanks Paul!
What power is the motor and battery
Best review I have seen of this bike!
Really like this bike, I disagree with you on a few things, it’s heavy and it’s expensive
Expensive is subjective, and it’s 4000 cheaper than a yeti with an XT drivetrain and the same suspension. Heavy, it is what it is with could shock, all alloy parts, DH tyres etc.
@@astonmtb2428 no mattter how much you have in the bank 11k is expensive for a bike
Awesome. Cheers.
Love to win the frame kit! What size?
Any size and colour you’d like!
Nice gentleman but honestly boring guy... I move on to the next video...
You could have just moved on to the next video without commenting
@@astonmtb2428 Just ignore comments like that. The rest of us didn't find you boring and are looking forward to the next video. PLease include details on range of the 72w battery. :)
@@astonmtb2428 I could.- But if people these days wouldn't cry out about the smallest things, then they may start seeing comments as constructive criticism and advice to improve. Man up.
@@Gallardo6669 I agree that criticism is a normal part of open communication, and that people should not feel too sensitive about it. That said, for your criticism to be constructive, you should have included reasoning why you were disappointed or bored, or what you would expect from kind of bike review. Your statement above is unhelpful.
@@thorminator1140 fair comment. This sport is all about action and excitement. This bike is outstanding and get me nervous, I was waiting for such a bike for the longest time. Every review I am willing to watch and the longer the better. But the presentation matters, the person is welcome to fascinate the viewer, not to be boring himself and rather create an interesting video with a certain exciting "flow". The gentleman might be a better fit for introducing a new book in a library.
I genuinely wonder which planet you are on when you qualify 7500€ for a frame kit as “pretty cheap”!!! Coming from Kanye West that may make sense…
I did drop the ‘inverted comma’ hands.
It’s cheaper than an 7000€ S-works Turbo frameset as it includes the complete drivetrain and cranks. The s-works has no colour or finish options and still needs a chain, cassette, shifter, derailleur to be equal to the Nicolai.
But 7500 is still a ton of money in my book!
And, you’d be surprised how many people are spending that much money on bikes, there’s so many top bikes around all over Europe nowadays.
@@astonmtb2428 well all of us would be surprised, because if people were spending so much, there wouldn’t be sales of up to 60% and overflowing stockrooms, accompanied by what feels like daily bankruptcies… and I’m really getting tired of you paid marketing crooks trying to ram these ridiculous prices down our throats, now even going so far as to label a 7.5k frame set as “cheap”.
If there was no issue with the belt tensioner, as you stated, how much extra shock length would this frame and rocker accept? And would it be available in the trunnion mount configuration?
