One of my favorite Luke moments is when he went out and found all of the missing Easter eggs for Kirk after watching Taylor go off on Kirk for messing up
I was thinking the same thing.
I know! And Kirk annoys him almost as much as Taylor. Despite that, he still helped him out. What a sweet grouch!

It's one of the Luke moments I think about most often.
What I love about the message of this video is it stresses that good, decent people are equally decent across the board. Those who are kind to their families are kind to their neighbors, are kind to their enemies. If you are the only person your love interest is kind to, it's NOT a good sign, there should be no favoritism with truly kind behavior. 🙂
This is key! If the video only focused on how Luke helped Lorelai, I would say that, well, he likes Lorelai so there is some self-interest there. But he is kind to others even when they don't serve his self-interest. He is also kind to Lorelai during the course of the show even when she is dating someone else.

I've heard that Scott Patterson (Luke's Actor) will go on the Stars Hollow studio tour dressed up as Luke to meet the fans and take pictures of them. So clearly, he really enjoyed the role.
He's done that a few times but not as a regular thing. These days he's filming a new series in Nova Scotia and traveling for cons a lot.
@@loraleitourtillottwiehr2473he's so lovely at cons!! He gave me the BEST hug ever when I got a pic with him a few years ago. Didn't even ask for one, but now it's my favourite convention picture.
Then he wrote a poem on my DVD cover when I asked him for an autograph. Talk about generous.
He hosts a rewatch podcast. He enjoys it.

I loved Luke’s character in the early seasons. They messed him up so bad, and I hate the writers for it, but here he’s great

Much of his relationship with Lorelay was poorly written. They could only write this here, before they admitted liking each other. It became really stupid after that.

It’s not only doing the kind thing, it’s doing the inconvenient thing. I almost fell of my chair. This sentence is so good!!
He blew up balloons & made a little coffee cake for Rory's birthday. He let Kirk have a fancy table for his date with Lulu. He's a very thoughtful grouch lol
He stayed up all night sewing tents together for Rory's going away party. Luke is so sweet, strong and devoted.
This is why I love this episode. Luke is such a loving character despite not being particularly warm and friendly. I also think that what happens with Richard and Emily and their conversation in his hospital room is so poignant and sweet. It almost helps me forget how problematic they can be.
The face Luke absolutely hates Taylor in general yet he’s still very kind to him and trusts him. 😂
It's like he hates Taylor on principle but it's not personal.
I've seen a lot of people say that season 1 isn't as good as later seasons. But I think season 1 is one of the best. And this is one of my favorite episodes.
I'd never really thought of Luke being a "acts of service" guy over a "words of affirmation" guy, but it totally makes sense. Especially towards the end of this season, and thinking about how his tendency to not use words of affirmation gets brought up in a later season.

Luke is basically Rori’s dad. That’s why he’s always like that with her. He was the one bringing her chicken soup when she was sick, feeding her mashed potatoes when her tonsils came out, and fixing things in her room, building her furniture, making sure she ate good food at his diner, and bringing the ice for her birthday parties, and cheering her up and baking her birthday cakes. If you’re ever wondering who your dad is? That guy is your dad. Big Dad energy in the way her father never was…
At the beginning of the show he would never admit it but in his heart of hearts he adopted that girl. But he and Rori never had a moment like that where she acknowledged that, during the whole of the show. It’s what I always wanted to see. But every time she says his name, she means dad. “Luke” = Dad.
Taylor might be a jerk and Luke may not like him, but he knows Taylor won’t rob him or forget to lock up.

I'm wracking my brain to think of a moment when Luke is quippy with Rory but I can't. He doesn't act like that towards her. He really sees her as his daughter and truly adores her.
He always reopened the diner after the town meeting. He gave hot drinks to the guys re-enacting the revolutionary war when it was freezing cold and snowing, even though he thought they were ridiculous. He gave Rory unicorn-themed gifts for years because he thought she liked unicorns. He cried unashamedly at her high school graduation.
And he brought food to the hospital after Richard's second heart attack.
So many things!
I am never growing tired of GG getting therapized. I try to be like Luke but I do get overstimulated easily and I need a lot of alone time so it's hard for me to be the person people phone first when they have problems because that gives me anxiety. I am 100% the person who manages to find energy to mentally and emotionally support people so I guess I'm the opposite of Luke 😂
I love Luke. He can be harsh, he can be mean, but he's actually kind hearted. And he always helps when he can, no matter who it is. He even found the last Easter eggs, and gave them to Kirk, and told him to tell Taylor that he (Kirk) found them.
The intro was unexpected but ultimately quite lovable. You seem like a very lovely guy, I hope you aren't having too hard a time rn personally, I'm glad that you've got all the tools (and friendship) you could need to navigate anything life throws at you. Love the channel, the insight and goofy jokes.

This is something I've really struggled with in recent years. My love language is definitely acts of service - I love doing things for people I care about and for my broader community. But as I get progressively more and more disabled it gets harder and harder to show up for others in the ways I'm used to. I try to find alternatives but with limited success so far.
Also my friends know that I'm disabled so they tend not to ask me for things, even things that are within my abilities. It's hard to explain that allowing me to contribute to the relationship/community in the ways I'm able is actually really affirming for me - I don't think they get it.

I feel this too. One of the worst parts of being progressively more disabled is not being able to help. I used to volunteer a lot & do things like clean ups & food drive. I can't help my friends or family move or set up for their baby shower or anything. I miss that.
I found my Luke! He’s the best man I’ve ever known. I bit grumpy but loving kind and the most tender man I’ve ever seen.

We had this game of competing how many boxes we tick and tried to find a mistake in the Schrodinger equation in the background. We didn't study Pascal but Fortran (if anybody here knows what it is). Some of us even knew Java Script. Also, Vector and Tensor Calculus was an obligatory subject but wasn't very fun. :)
I can’t wait till you see Luke and Jess, Luke and Liz, Luke and TJ, heck Luke and Kirk even. Luke and April … okay not so much but by then the show had different writers and I think they didn’t really get Luke, preferring to write for characters like Christopher.

I think everything you said in this video is great, but I think it’s important to keep in mind that there are many people out there who seek to use and abuse kind and decent people because of their self-sacrificing nature. I’ve had a romantic relationship and a couple of friendships that ultimately ended up that way, and to be honest it left me more than a little cynical. Thankfully I have a wonderful partner and some good friends that aren’t like this, but sometimes it’s hard to trust people not to do this to you, which makes you more weary of being this kind of person to begin with.
