I think it’s because God could see Davids heart and knew David thought about Him and loved Him.

Okay, it's easy to say, "God did it." That's great, of course his hand is ultimately behind every event. But what about DAVID? What was his character like? How did he stand apart from everyone else? We have a few major examples, but God seems to look upon David very highly all the time. Why? And, "Because it's God's grace" isn't an answer.
How was David different from everyone else?

I believe he was able to keep God first bc he knew God loved him and chose him. David knowing God's love is what kept David returning to God. So if we want to be blessed like David we must first know God loves us so we will always return to him too
