hey guys if you all wouldnt mind coming over to my channel and checking it out, that would be greatly appreciated! leaving me some feedback is always good as well! thanks!
The l28 engine came fuel injected on the 280z's at one point. You are driving a fuel injected l28 engine. Just thought I would make that correction 👌🏼 keep up the videos.
Yes! Japanese hotrod is exactly how I refer to mine. L26 260z early e88 head, bigger valves, mild cam, flattop pistons, 6-2 header, 2.5” exhaust and there is no need for a stereo. This thing just sings to you as you drive. My favorite car I ever owned. One common theme I see in videos about s30s if exhilaration and glee. They are seriously fun car to drive!
Burrito Sandwich Probably. But whether they intended to or not, these things sit quite nicely next to American muscle. Right down to the availability of t-tops.
I had to laugh. This is definitely fuel injected. That price next to the radiator is an air flow meter. Not to be confused with Mass air flow. I have one and just got rid of the shit for a FAST EFI system. Runs soooo much better. Love this car though
THAT'S IT! I'm doing cams on my e46 330xi. Cammed inline-6's for the win. Side note... this 280Z sounds EXACTLY like my dad's Mustang GT at idle, gotta love that lope
280z's will always have a soft spot in my heart, due to the fact that I had one basically stolen right from under me and have been battling with the state to get it back for over ten years. But seeing these recent videos have only brought smiles and have enjoyed every second of these reviews! Keep up the great work!!
I was about the same age as this kid in the video, driving my one-year-old 280. it was bone stock, copper, with Empis. I sure do miss that car. After all these years and many different rides, I can say that the Datsun 280Z was in the top 10 Best Built cars at ANY price. Before I owned mine, my older brother had a very successful Porsche shop. When I asked him what he would recommend. He said, "get the Datsun 280. Best sports car on the road for the money. You'll never have to bring it here."
I miss my 83, white and I had the front aftermarket valance on it. I also lowered it 1” and had soooo many memories with that car. Oh,and it was my very first car when I turned 16😢. My brother and four of our friends also had Z’s, everyone called us the Zboys lol
Really appreciate the upload David. My L28 240z has been down for repairs the past few weeks and this gave me the daily dose of Z that I crave. Now if I could just get the damn thing running again...
Seeing you, David, review such iconic cars like the Datsun makes me so happy! I have a project 280z with a sbc 350 that I'm building, and it's so close to finishing it and watching this video inspires me more to finish! Keep them videos comin! Love them!!
I have a 72 240Z, a 2005 G35 Coupe and have also owned a 2003 350Z along the way. The S30 wins in every department when it comes to character and driver experience without question.
this man has built my dream car. well done! and you get it! it's the gritty loud character of the car that makes it special. Thanks for the review dude my favorite so far.
I feel like the California video series had the best all around videos. Different cars. Culture. History. Like idk I learned a little bit watching these not going to lie
Love your vids David and am a huge Nissan/Datsun fan and i hate to point out a huge error in your explanation of the beautiful 280z, that is the first vehicle that Datsun released with fuel injection, she is not carbureted, granted it uses a controlled vacuum leak for idle control shuch as a carb car but it is injected. Keep up the great work.
my dad had a 260z that he bought brand new up until I was around 7 years old when he sold it and his z31 300zx. now he owns a 3000gt vr4 and I have a 92 3000gt vr4 for myself now too
Make sure you drive the early 300zx(z31 chassis) with the single turbo. I love mine, and the Z-cars will make you fall in love with them. I can't wait to get a 280z and turbo the L28. 😍😍😍😍
I love this, long time fan, sucks that you dont get as many as views as before. this youtube logarithm is fucking everything up for the quality uploaders.
Too bad I can only "like" this video...I want to do more! My heart soared with every rev! amazing straight-piped music. One thing, though: you said its got bad gas mileage. I know old muscle cars get relatively horrible gas mileage, how much do these get? can you make a guess? A range?
I've watched David drive a lot of fast cars, hell I drive a procharged foxbody Mustang, but I fell in love with this Nissan! I've got to own one of these lol!
Thank you so much! I loved this car for so long. I'm still in the works of getting one cause it's so hard to find a rust free one on the east coast. Keep up the good work man!
Ya the intake is so simple yet genius, nice car but I'll forever love my mkiii 7mge I've completely restored it and I'm all for N/A my throttle response kills my buddy's mkiii turbo . 9-1 pistons and a more aggressive cam shaft soooo much fun aaaahhhhhhh lol keep doing JDM classics
I have a 280z 2+2 that I'm currently working on as a project. My floor panels are flawless and has just over 100k on motor but was rebuilt. Working on body and weather seals. I only got mine for 1750 though.
On top of your comment of Nissan's next sports car that is not the Gt-r, I think with the new infiniti's 3.0T engine. I think it will be a revival of the 300Z TT. Just a thought I had recently
Awesome car! i could listen to that idle and going through the gears all day love it. In my opinion WAY better than the 260z. I both the 260z and the 280z but i would choose the 280z anyway.
Recipe to make a GREAT car: Solid naturally good sounding engine Straight pipes with just exhaust tips Some sort of engine mods to make the car of choice faster/quicker Good suspension system Simple not over the top brakes Nice wheel and tire combo Nice clean simple setup with nothing over the top That's what you have here!
no comparison matters between the first series cars they are all kick ass in performance and look. You can still find fixer uppers that need to be built into a custom ride. the parts are still out there. Don't be intimidated by people saying they are out of reach .Fully restored ones ...possibly .Put a fixer upper you can watch you tube and watch others build the car you can do it a great car to learn on they are simple. Magic of the car is they are basic simple cars. I bought two none running cars a240z complete for 1500. and a no engine no trans 280z for five hundred .already have a L28 and five speed from a ZX I paid 300$ for the unit .I'm building them both @ same time It's a blast building two kick ass cars! Don't let others tell you no. Go for it any way you can ,you can get your own if you really want it!
Easily one of the best sounding cars thats ever been on the channel imo
Second is that other Z
Thank you all for watching this video series! Your support means everything. Stay awesome.
ThatDudeinBlue looking forward for the beater car trip

Great Video ThatDudeInBlue! I love these old rides you test drive! So Awesome, Years back I almost bought A T-top 240Z I believe it was?
try an alfa romeo 75 3,0 liter qv or america model that car is the best
+DEPROJECT I completely agree - the milano (75) v6 and I-4 are amazing cars.
ThatDudeinBlue or the gtv6 2.5 liter of the 80's
plz make a comeback japanese straight sixes.
WJH "YES PLEASE"
Ford RS Yeah but my preferred german inline 6 is bmw :)
I read somewhere that the next Supra is supposed to get a BMW I6
Nicholas Rodrigues -- Yeah I heard the new supra is gonna be merged with the new z car (brz/frs) style!!!
hey guys if you all wouldnt mind coming over to my channel and checking it out, that would be greatly appreciated!
leaving me some feedback is always good as well!
thanks!
The l28 engine came fuel injected on the 280z's at one point. You are driving a fuel injected l28 engine. Just thought I would make that correction 👌🏼 keep up the videos.
i was about to say lol

This thing just sings to you as you drive. My favorite car I ever owned. One common theme I see in videos about s30s if exhilaration and glee. They are seriously fun car to drive!
It really is, though. It's Datsun's answer to the Mustang and Camaro.
Burrito Sandwich
Probably. But whether they intended to or not, these things sit quite nicely next to American muscle. Right down to the availability of t-tops.
Burrito Sandwich
I already have the V8. The Z is on my wishlist.
Burrito Sandwich
Absolutely, it's a gorgeous car. One with an insane amount of character, too. I'd love to have one sitting next to my Z28.
spencerific93 I'd take a datsun over a mustang or camaro any day
Lj 88
I'd take both.
It's actually fuel injected man. Nissan swapped the carburetor out for the 280z due to emissions regulations
280zx has an L28E which is a carb
I had to laugh. This is definitely fuel injected. That price next to the radiator is an air flow meter. Not to be confused with Mass air flow. I have one and just got rid of the shit for a FAST EFI system. Runs soooo much better. Love this car though
Marco Nieto lots of people go back to the webber side drafts
THAT'S IT! I'm doing cams on my e46 330xi. Cammed inline-6's for the win.
Side note... this 280Z sounds EXACTLY like my dad's Mustang GT at idle, gotta love that lope

Hope you got it back!!!
I want one so bad!!!!
Taylor Ray get one 😊lol
Taylor Ray Project 57 confirmed
Taylor Ray get one!!! 💯😎
Get one while you can. They're not cheap anymore and won't be getting cheaper. I have one and you won't regret it!
Daily'd240z do you know what year the one he's driving is?
Dude that sound.... SO GOOD!
that m8 is why your channel needs one
I was about the same age as this kid in the video, driving my one-year-old 280. it was bone stock, copper, with Empis. I sure do miss that car. Loving the older car reviews!!! So much character in them!!!
I love how you call it a carbed engine even though you can see the injectors. man i love that sound.
still can't get over his videos. Love them so much
240z is KING!!!!!! I've had one of each - really loved my 240 most. Now I'm kicking around a 68 Datsun Roadster (new fave).
Love the sound of the 280z, I cannot wait until mine is on the road!
The sound when it's in between gears or winding down is insane. Just a glorious rasp.
I miss my 83, white and I had the front aftermarket valance on it. I also lowered it 1” and had soooo many memories with that car. Oh,and it was my very first car when I turned 16😢. My brother and four of our friends also had Z’s, everyone called us the Zboys lol
I just realised I started watching this last night and by 1:56 I was so deep into the "I should buy a Datsun" wormhole I forgot to watch the rest 😂
Really appreciate the upload David. My L28 240z has been down for repairs the past few weeks and this gave me the daily dose of Z that I crave. Now if I could just get the damn thing running again...
My first car was a '76 280Z. I loved that car. Would definitely buy another one if I had the chance.
By far one of the best sounding N/A cars i have ever heard!
280z was a simple Bosch fuel injection ecu setup. 260z was the last model with carbs. You can swap them out simply but that one was still FI
BABY! I fuckin' LOVE single cam inline 6's. Words cannot explain.
This is actually the only "vintage" car I yearn the most. Thanks for this, it seems this beauty might be worth the wait! :)
Seeing you, David, review such iconic cars like the Datsun makes me so happy! I have a project 280z with a sbc 350 that I'm building, and it's so close to finishing it and watching this video inspires me more to finish! Keep them videos comin! Love them!!

So damn cleann!! And the sound... oh my
I think this might actually be my personal favourite of the cars David's reviewed.
this man has built my dream car. well done! and you get it! it's the gritty loud character of the car that makes it special. Thanks for the review dude my favorite so far.
I feel like the California video series had the best all around videos. Different cars. Culture. History. Like idk I learned a little bit watching these not going to lie
The sound of that car is mental!
Finally getting around to the video, this is the first car I plan on buying when I get out of college. Also, that color!!!
I love the sexy exhaust note of those old straight piped z's
the way that thing rev's out omg music to your ears
I was smiling all the way through the video. What a sound, what a car!
These are just popping up everywhere now, and I need one. Sounds fucking amazing.
Its like the finale part of a firework show. Gives me goosebumps, I love it
that cam is insane it sounds like heaven
Dream car right there. . . Sounds amazing and the wheels are perfect size for the body style.
My dad's buddies restored a 68 charger with that same copper color and it looked awesome!
Stock 240z, 260z and 280z all had 150hp. Yes the displacement went up, but, because of emissions devices the power was restricted.
got to love that straight 6 life damn it sounds so good
this and the green integra are my 2 favorite cars youve reviewed hands down.
one of the most beautiful cars.. props to the choice of color
Finally found a Clean 280z, I can't wait to get in that Beast.
my dad had a 260z that he bought brand new up until I was around 7 years old when he sold it and his z31 300zx. now he owns a 3000gt vr4 and I have a 92 3000gt vr4 for myself now too

I love this, long time fan, sucks that you dont get as many as views as before. this youtube logarithm is fucking everything up for the quality uploaders.
Awesome car! Has a very satisfying exhaust note.
I have an 89' Mitsubishi Starion With SHP Package and love it, but have always wanted a 260
At 3:04, tell me you asked for a Tuna sandwich? With no crust...
Good catch lol, I can't believe it's the same place. should have kept it as Toretto's. CRAZY.
OMG!!!! I love that rasper noise on that Z. I really really really need to graduate high school with straight A's so my dad can get me a Z.
Driving through the California canyons on a 280z or a GT-R Hakosuka is my lifetime dream. I'll die happy after that.
Thank you so much! I loved this car for so long. I'm still in the works of getting one cause it's so hard to find a rust free one on the east coast. Keep up the good work man!
Love these cars man. My 280Z has the stock exhaust, minus the muffler, so straight pipe and yeah, they sound amazing. Can't get any better
Ya the intake is so simple yet genius, nice car but I'll forever love my mkiii 7mge I've completely restored it and I'm all for N/A my throttle response kills my buddy's mkiii turbo . 9-1 pistons and a more aggressive cam shaft soooo much fun aaaahhhhhhh lol keep doing JDM classics
brings back memories i had a 280 when i was a kid
That harness with that seat is kinda scary what if it slides of your shoulder 😂
car looks great, sounds amazing and then that with harnesses... death trap...
great video, David! That 280 sounds like a freakin racecar!!!
Great review David! Love the Datsuns!
can't beat an inline 6 👌👌👌
I have a 280z 2+2 that I'm currently working on as a project. My floor panels are flawless and has just over 100k on motor but was rebuilt. Working on body and weather seals. I only got mine for 1750 though.
Is there any build threads on this 280z? I would like to know the cams that were used.
Absolutely awesome! All I could do was smile the entire time!
Classic David Patterson.
Oh my god, that cam really makes it...as well as the exhaust
Watching this video is making me want to work on my widebody 240z -- its been a while since I drove it.
David you are amazing have a fantastic day!
JDM XSideWays what a nice guy ^
Love Z reviews. Awesome video and awesome car. Two thumbs up David!
The blinkers in the wrong spot in a 280 there usually in the grill. It's got them below the light bucket like a 240 or a 260
Oh I've never clicked on a video so fast
Smiled the entire video. Absolutely loved it!
Dream car right there fore the past 10 years
so glad some people kept it original
the cravings for a datsun are REAL
Man Nissan 6 cylinders always sound the same. This one sounds so similar to my 2009 VQ35HR
On top of your comment of Nissan's next sports car that is not the Gt-r, I think with the new infiniti's 3.0T engine. I think it will be a revival of the 300Z TT. Just a thought I had recently
That thing sounds awesome! I always loved the 2** series.
Awesome car! i could listen to that idle and going through the gears all day love it. In my opinion WAY better than the 260z. I both the 260z and the 280z but i would choose the 280z anyway.
Glad you'd choose the 280Z haha. I'm building one, fuel injected motor tho. It'll have a hood haha
i like how you say its got a carburetor just as the camera pans over the fuel injection
Dammmnn that 280z sounds amazing 😍😍
I got a 73 240z in the spring and man its fun!
the v8 sounds from that 2.8L is insane
u have to do a 300zx next my man i wanna see what u think of my car
Jacob Fowler A TT too get the full feeling of nissan or even a NA-t would be dope
Jacob Fowler he already did a 300zx
I have a 93 NA 300zx. So much fun to drive!
I have a n/a 1985 300zx...sounds amazing and I believe it has stock exhaust.
She sounds So good!!
literally been waiting for you to do a review on a Datsun haha
Recipe to make a GREAT car:

Makes me even happier to own one of these cars!
Wow, such a sexy car. Raw, analog and a visceral experience!
These raspy sixes sounds so nice. alfa romeo v6 bmw n/a straight 6 and these nissan engines like the s20 l24,l26, etc...
that settles it, i have to buy a datsun
This video is great. Make me happy watching it can't image driving it
Made
Nissan had a concept called the idx a few years ago. That was reminiscent of the Datsun 510. Nismo version looked cool, imo.
Really liking these Z reviews
