You are young ,so I will hold back .
But you have alot to learn about SPORTS CARS.
I've had Sports Cars since I was 16.
I also completely restored every Sports Car I have owned .
    Amongst many Sports Car I have owned ,I have owned 7 S30's and at 65 years old I'm restoring a 78 280Z and a 73 240Z both resto mods
    Your car looks good !
Congratulations on getting your own Japanese Ferrari.
The Datsun Z was made, in the true Sports Car manner.
Sports Car = a race car, with just enough added hardware to make it legal to drive on public roads.
The idea was to have a car you could drive during the week and on week ends go to the track and with a wheel and tire change and some small adjustments ,you could have fun racing against other enthusiasts.
    Just Like Today's Drifting crowd.
Z cars have never been SLOW .
We are trying to fit a 50 year old car into today's, term fast, with modern cars. That's not
    A comparison.
It's very light weight, it's very analog, and it's a car you will drive and SMILE because it becomes an extension of you.
You and the car, become ONE !
You sneeze the car moves, you relax the car relaxes, you get rowdy, the car will get just as rowdy.
The Z, is not a modern car you can drive and text and talk on the phone and drive.
The Z is a Car you ,put on!
You hit a sand patch, you know what wheel and how long it hit that patch, you go over a bump, you know what wheel it's under ,how big ,how small and how your Mechanical Suit handled it.
You buy shock, springs ,wheels and tires to get your Mechanical Suit to react ,to your personal tastes.
At all time ,You and You alone are wearing this Mechanical Suit and driving the roads like a Transformer.
You get out, your SMILING Big, if there are people around you Smile Big Inside your head .
You park it, nobody else has, anything like it !
It's YOUR personal Mechanical Suit .

Hey, great video, nice car. I am the proud owner of a 77 280z and I have to disagree with you on a few points. Of course it is a old car so NVH insulation is nothing like modern cars but mine is stock and the suspension is very compliant and confortable even on shitty roads. Yours has probably stiffer springs and shocks. And for the noise, maybe putting back some carpet in there would help, mine doesnt ratle like that at all. It actually surprised me how conforatble it is for a 40+year old car. Reliable car, looks great, loads of caracter, driving experience is a lot of fun and very rewarding. It may not be quick but it can carry lot of speed in the corners. For those willing to buy one, do it, you will love it, just be carefull not buying a rust bucket.

    • @south7boys
      @south7boys 3 года назад +1

Agreed, even before I did suspension updates on our 280z project it rode very well for such an old car.

I have owned a 1975 280-Z since 1975. I simply love it. 213,000 miles Cape Cod to Key West, Ocean City to LA. Original top to bottom. Cherry Bomb glass pack the only modification so I can hear that sweet music. Steering is tight - mine has a rubber grip wheel I covered with a leather wrap. No hood louvers in my hood just smooth shiny steel. Took her a on a road trip last year, 600 miles round trip on I-81. Found its level at 75-80 around 4000 rpm. With 90 when I needed it. In SW Virginia’s winding mountain roads she performed expertly with oversteer with power on. My Z? Not a rattle or clunk. Tight as the day we met. Why? BECAUSE I SLOW DOWN GOING OVER R/R TRACKS. Be nice to her and she will return the favor.

It's a car that's meant to be driven! Plus as you could tell the roads where I live are VERY poor. There are potholes pretty much every 100 meters unfortunately.

I had a 78 datsun 280Z, it would come alive above 1500/2000 rpms. The lack of power steering was never a problem and the controls were very responsive to the touch.
I had a 49 state model, not cat. Unequal length header and 2.5 inch exhaust really let it breathe.
A late 70’s sports car with independent suspension and fuel injection. If it only came with the duel overhead cam 4 valve engine.

Beautiful lemon. It had black leather and wooden knobs. The fuel injectors leaked, and eventually the engine blew up. But I got it up to 130 mph on the highway first. Stupid teenager. Sold it for $800. I hope I can get another someday.

I dont know what it is. I have liked the Datsun Z for a while now, probably since i was about 8. There is one by my house and its been sitting there for years, just waiting to be used again. I can just stare at it every time I see it. Its I think the lines that go from the front to the back, the head and tail lights, and way it looks at the time it came out. I have wanted one for a while, and I think I'm going to own one at one point in my life. I have like them, and I think that from all the hard work that I have put into school and making my grades go up, I think that I am going to buy one if I can.

I think 77 was the 1st year they vented the hood from the factory. I have had a 75 and 2 1976 280z's with non vented hoods. Get a Haltech a CAS open up the breathing and it will spin to 7k RPM with glee! I hit my rev limiter pretty quick at 7200 rpm. Before the Haltech I would feel power loss above 5k or so. Next for me is CAM and if I still want more I'll turbo. Also the tachometer is not accurate. My computer shows the RPM a few hundred RPM higher than the Tach and it's several hundred off near red-line. When I hit my rev limiter the stock tach shows about 6k rpm. Varooommm pop pop pop pop pop =)

Loved the video, some things I got to say though. I would argue the Carbs is more reliable than the Fuel Injection for these cars. The EFI system has so many different parts to it that when something wrong starts to come, it's almost impossible to know right away what the problem is.
Second, you cannot install a bigger cam on the L28 with EFI. There is no way to tune the computer so you would be losing power and reliability more than anything.
If you want more power without tearing apart the motor, the best thing you can do is get 6-1 headers and triple weber carbs setup. I am currently doing a full motor build on my L28, hoping to push 300+ hp by the end of the year

@@Izzys_Autos doesn't means carbs could not do the same. Carbs are just as reliable if not more, you may just have cold start issues with them. don't get me wrong, i have a 77 EFI, ran 7500km this year on it, no issues what so ever. but when it is gonna go bad, i know fixing it is not gonna be easy.

If you put a carpet kit back in it, it wouldn’t sound like such a rattletrap….

Super cool looking car, but, boy! it sounds like a bag of spanners when it's on a bumpy surface! And a constant smell of fuel?? Sure nothings wrong there?

It’s definitely a stiff ride! I had lots of the interior components removed during this video but since then I installed new seats and carpeting. It’s a lot better now. As for the fuel, it’s an older car and mechanically needs some love lol

240Z's we're more reliable than a 280z and it's touchy air flow meter..

Mine is doing just fine up to now! I don't got to worry about the carb tuning which is a big one because I have no idea how carbs work!
