They should have just let Guillermo to do hellboy 3 to complete that series, then later could have handed the series to a different director
according to Mignola they tried that but Guillermo refused. which is also why they decided not to cast Ron as Hellboy as they thought he wouldn't want to play the character without Guillermo directing.
Imagine that would be due to the lessening of creative freedom as mentioned in the video - didn't want to direct something he couldn't be proud of and do his community love proper service
@@c.c3180 why did he refuse though?
Who is they?
what does your right hand do?
2008 hellboy: its the key to humanity's demise.
2019 hellboy: it smashes things real good
"anung...ung....does it ring a bell?"
Both good answers.
Guillermo’s mind is something that can’t be replicated. Every time I’ve had opportunity to gaze into it, I’ve never been disappointed.
I know right?! The mans a cinematic genius! I can’t think of one bad movie of his. I don’t even think he could if he wanted too
the guy playing hellboy did a great job and would be down to watch him play the roll again but the story was pretty blah
Jonathan Well he does play jim hopper
Exactly how I felt the characters seemed to be well played for the bad story they were injected into.
I dunno, Ron Pearlman seems to be the DeFacto Hellboy.
caden Macdonald well of course but the new guy didn’t do a bad job, he just had some really big shoes to fill.
He played a good parody of Hellboy, his mannerisms and personality were such a far cry from anything in the comics.
This film was selling itself as being a lot more faithful to the comics, so the argument that "the film should be different to the comics" is moot.
I'm still wondering why we can't have a Hellboy animated series. It be nice to have a Hellboy tv series
Animated or live-action would be great as they'd be able to flesh out the stories and take their time.
@@filmcomicsexplained the reason why I say animated is that the creators can make the magical creatures pop out with the designs. I think the perfect animation that would work for this idea would be the Castlevania animation team
Megatron 95 yes that would be cool.
Yeah a TV Series would be great. The Hellboy animations, Blood and Iron and Sword of Storms were pretty good and made me wish for a longer series.
post-apocalyptic coming soon yeah I remember that series it was pretty good.

LMAO That guy is all "I'm going to out-walk this earthquake fissure like a-OH MY GOD A LITERAL DEMON
In all seriousness, this is what happens when the VFX guy and the Director can't get the effect timing right. The guy(and others in the BG) should be freaking out over the fissure already, and then doubling the intensity of panic when the actual creature becomes visible. Instead we have a group of citizens who think nothing of a giant fault in the road racing towards them.
AwheuyullnawdatshidbehavinDEMONs
Thankyou very much for your comment, you made my day :D That's literally the entire take I got from the whole movie, and both the joke and irony of your comment made me happy. Best wishes. That said, hey the new Devil May Cry trailer looks pretty cool! Oh....
Wren i highly doubt they were going for this but i really believe when something like that would happen it would be so unbelievable you might just try to ignore it lol
@@TheRealAgentZero6 lol I doubt that's what they were going for too but in reality that's actually a psychological phenomenon called "Somebody Else's Problem." It happens when a person encounters something so odd and out of place that they automatically ignore it/try to ignore it, like someone in a mall dressed as Spiderman doing parkour flips to get attention gets immediately ignored by a mother and her daughter, despite the daughter pointing and wanting to see more Mom will drag her off bodily while COMPLETELY pretending Spiderman wasn't there.
It really is a psychological phenomenon, and it's still being studied. Regionally, there are places where you get a ton of attention when you stand out THAT much, (the Spiderman guy in St. Cloud, Minnesota for example, everybody loves him) alongside places like here in Ohio or New York where you are forcibly invisible because you're "obviously crazy, somebody else's problem, moving along now, don't make eye-contact..."
Sorry, four AM here, I babble. Can't sleep ggrrr... Best wishes LaMar, take care! Thanks for making me laugh :D :)
@@wren7195 not so scientific phenomena but more of a social expirement.
@@georgewilliamsiii4677 Greetings George! It's great to meet you *smiles* Yeah I agree it's also a social experiment, but it genuinely IS a named and documented phenomenon in psychology, so you're sure as hell not wrong lol
Half the time I think we're ALL named documented social experiments in psychology! Take care friend, it's good to meet you
The demons scene at the end was the best part
It should have made up half the film with them all having to be beat
100%
I concur.
11921'21. 315. For real the design and CGI on them were amazing.
should have been the whole film hellboy fighting demons
Hellboy 2 was perfect for me and I really thought we would get a 3rd one... so sad
Guillermo del toro is a MASTER of practical effects and Neil Marshall isn’t...
? Have you Seen his Others Filmes ? I dont remember the right Name but in one of his early filmes in a cave they had Just one set and repurpused it multiple times and even of you Look for it you cant see it.
And the lighting is realy good.
Marshall is good, animatronix and practical, check dog soldiers.
But he got done badly by the producers on this one big time.
Marshals films always have looked like this, Underworld looks like this and its old as heck now. The Decent had no lighting, but fair camera work at times,, close up shots in dim lighting. Decent still had cheep costumes where the mouth could hardly open just like Hellboy’s cant. I swear the scene where he says “how do I look” I feel like they should’ve said “like you got a bargain at Walmart.” I mean the glove I forget is there at times on Ron, but in this new one it looks like a red hulk hand.
Can you make a video on the tripods from War of the Worlds?
Yes its on the to-do list, thanks!
FilmComicsExplained oh my god I have been watching your videos for a while now, I love your content keep and up the great work!!!
FilmComicsExplained 🙏 I cant wait !
I would enjoy that
@@filmcomicsexplained also can you cover more about starwars starcraft stargate and startrek?
Honestly sometimes a villain who is "just evil" is fine enough. There is room for both sympathetic and unsympathetic villains, they both have their place.
I enjoyed it, gave it 4 stars when i rented it on my amazon prime
But just so you know, i LOVE the original two, i just didn't start out comparing them, i rated it as a stand alone
Same, I feel like so many people disliked it because they were comparing it to the originals.
@@Nightwalker-zk6ce i feel like he DID nail all the failing points but filmcomicsexplained has always provided us with an excellent service by giving us a no nonsense REAL review on movies and shows, rotten tomatoes lost all credibility during that Captain Marvel B.S
Bad Donkey. Yeah, I don’t trust Rotten Tomatoes anymore. And I don’t think the movie is flawless, but it’s not as awful as most critics were making it out to be.
I liked the 2019 hellboy I understand the pacing is all over the place but I think the actors did the best they could with what they had.
The quality of the move, as in, characters, acting and effects are great, the script and plot on the other hand...
I liked it to
If all you have is a pile of shit and frying pan and you cook it the best way possible it’s still going to taste like shit.
1:53, I heard David Harbour got into an argument with Marshall over which scene should be cut or saved, and having grown tired of these choices, he walked out of the set.
I honestly loved how brutal this film was
Hell boys 2 introduction to the golden army’s origin was so cool
You keep bringing up Dog Soldiers, Please cover it! That's my brother and mines cult classic favorite!
My favorite one is Mutant Chronicles (2009)
17:30 i love how he said after like a minute he had a little anger in his voice
My favorite part was the sequence when he has the sword and is riding the dragon 🤘🏽
Which has nothing to do with the actual movie, says all xD
Biggest mistake of this movie
-Not bringing back Del Toro.
Second biggest mistake of this movie
-Not using 'Ron Pearlman'.
It feels like the reboot was trying to be something similar to The Mummy Returns, an action adventure film going at a breakneck pace. However, it fails at that on all levels.
God. The old mummy series was so good am I right?
@@Palemagpieabsolutely! That series made me interested in Ancient Egypt! 🙌🏻
I quite liked it, for me it's saving grace is that it didn't take itself too seriously
I think it's great that there are people who really liked this movie. While I didn't like it too much and thought the plot was kinda bland I also think it got a bit too much hate. Especially by people comparing it to the earlier films.
my biggest problem with this reboot is the makeup done on hellboy seemed subpar compared to the previous iteration and the right hand in every scene seems like not a part of hellboy like its fake to me it stood out so much instead of like before where you just bought o hey yeah thats his hand
I think that’s because they made it feel way to large obviously it’s not going to be like his other hand and be bigger but it just looks extremely large with the reboot
*DEMONS RIZE FROM HELL*
**BFG devision begins playing in the distance**
16:33 that's one wicked looking jack o lantern behind Nimway
I really liked seeing this in theatres
.........
I love this film, though I have loved all of his films he's done.
I wish this movie stopped being hated because I love how they did it and the characters in it since it was supported by injustice 2
Why does the way that Nimue was drawn, quartered and stashed away remind me of that one demon from Buffy. Season 2 - the blue guy....the Judge. It reminds me of what was done to the Judge.
I really loved the Hellboy 2019 reboot taken on, also this films was suposed to like The Mummy 2017 be a kickstart of the cinematic Univeres based on comic, i can already see wich films whould have been made by easter eggs in Hellboy 2019 this are:"Abe Sapian, Vistor Craft, Lobster Johnson, a B. P. R. D a crossover film, and a B. P. R. D tv series that whould tie-in the films
I honestly think the Hellboy comics would lend themselves so much better to TV series over films. There's so much content in the comics it just seems like an impossible task to really adapt them. I'd love to see an animated series done with Harbor back to Voice Hellboy
I really liked the hellboy movie. I wish it could get a sequel to fix the things people didn’t really like about it. Overall I’m down to see David harbour return as big red
I didn't know even HALF this much about what was going on behind the scenes. No wonder it was a flop. Poor Hellboy.
Can you a video of the Cabal from Destiny? Big space rhino/turtles need some love too.
Speaking of hell, will u please do the Creatures of DOOM in celebration of the soon to be released DOOM Eternal?
This is a movie that I keep forgetting is made.
People cannot compare this to the other two films with Ron Pearlman. It’s a completely different tone, story and all that. This one is comic book based and Del Toro did an AMAZING job, in my opinion at least, as well as all my friends and family that have seen all 3 of hellboy movies
It doesn't compare because it's dogshit
I think this movie could have really easily been fixed, if they didnt just rush it, but split it into 2 movies. The differen scenes could be extended, other characters could have better backstory, and it wouldnt feel so rushed. For example, make the first nimweh confrontation the climax of the first movie, so that we get a glimpse of her power, and kind of a cliffhanger to get us excited for the sequel. There's plenty of time to get to know the characters better, slow down the pace, ect.
I do like a lot of the scenes in this movie, and I do want to like this movie :/
Suggestion: characters, nations, general world of avatar: the last airbender animated series
@elite13 would you rather he do the live action movie?
@elite13 it's up to him not you if he wants to cover anime he will cover anime and you can't do shit to stop him
I love these "Explored" videos, Great work 👌
That ref was so surprised when the cross didn’t work
My favorite part of this movie was the guy just casually out-walking a literal fissure to hell, but gets scared seeing the demon lol the enormous crack though? Eh, I'll just slowly walk away from it
The movie is just dumb fun that's all.
Congrats on 600k!
Loved the video as always.
Can you make a video on hill house from the haunting at hill house?
The Golden Compass perhaps? (Or the books in general)
Honestly I actually like this version of hellboy over the first two despite a couple issues with the movie
Brent Elder this might become a cult film with the passage of time.
Idk, there’s something about when Ron pearlman plays a role it can never be the same without him
9:20, Nimue is also the LADY IN THE LAKE, from the King Arthur legend.
Don’t mind getting a quick scene to see a future movie with my favorite character from hellboy, Abe sapien, possibly happening.
Please do a video on the movie "Prospect". It's the most original bit of scifi I've seen in a while and honestly I'm a little confused about a few things.
I would always trust del torro directing the movie. Hands down best director ever and writer.
Dude I thought this was gonna be an explanation if the demons and lore, but instead we just got a movie review.
maybe a more balanced body head ratio would look nicer in some scenes
The thing that really gets me about this hellboy is his right hand looks like something made out of cardboard for a middle school play
"Ian McShane has phenomenal voice" says Niyat, who has a voice and accent that sounds like spoken calligraphy.
I still firmly believe that the movie did not have the right scriptwriter who understood the source material. If Marshall had full control and saw out his vision I believe we would have had an absolutely amazing film.
I wish there was a link to Dog Soldiers
NGL you're right I lost the creepy vibe from babayaga (14:03) when it transitions to an awesome scene where hellboy arriving in England (14:10)
Boy does the plot with the evil queen sound like something from Doomsday. Especially the part about splitting up her body parts and sealing them away, separately.
This movie was a really really cool spectacle to see!
I don't need a perfectly constructed story, I just need to be entertained and this movie does that.
The point of a film is to tell a story. This told nothing but dogshit and tried to make it out like it's prime steak
Hellboy 2019 is a good tv series cut and edit in 1h30 movie....
I think the expanse series would make a great video. The new season comes out mid December
The queen was literally trying to defend the mythical creatures it says so in the film. She was essentially the leader of the monster army, against the aggressive humans.
Ron Pearlman, was and always will be Hellboy, to me. I was immediately turned off my the "new face" of Hellboy.
You didn’t actually explain the the demons and stuff. You just complained about the movie.
Well the movie didn't explain the demons and stuff either.
@@LaNoir. the title explicitly says "demons explained" which is what the comment was referencing
@@Karak971 *explored
@@LaNoir. well shit I'm blind. It still didn't really do that either though
Should make some video essays
This is actually really good
Based on a mediocre movie at best, but the essay made here is among the better I've seen
Even if you didn’t like the movie as a whole, you’ve gotta admit that David Harbor was great as Hellboy.
No Del Toro and no Pearlman. I tried to get into it but just you said, too many things thrown at us at once, couldn't keep track on what was going on.
The 2019 version told away a lot of Hellboy's wit and intelligence. They tried to make up for lack of script with expensive CGI. Perlman's version of Hellboy is perfect, and he acts like a manly man, and ALWAYS refers to professor Broom as father. 2019 Hellboy acted more like a teenager and always called Broom "dad." Milla Jovovich and Gruagach were the Highlights of the movie. I think David Harbour would have been fine if the director hadn't tried to steer away from the Original HB films. If you actually know the comic story of HB and the "Blood Queen" that movie is even worse. Hellboy is in my Top 3 comics of all time. I don't know why they did what they did?
Can you cover a video about the variety of creatures that inhabit skull island? The 2005 Peter Jackson one to be exact since there's so much more to the island than the film shows.
He’s went over the carnictus which are those giant worm like creatures that killed the men that fell into that pit
Maclain Trepanier I know he’s done a video on both the carnictus and vrex but I’d like an explanation of other creatures like the foetodon, and if not that than on the skull island creatures of the monster verse.
I don't think Hellboy ever went back on the deal as everything is relative. He just couldnt/didnt give it up at the moment. Monkeys paws apply both ways.
Who thought they could reboot this series with such fans and beloved actors/director was snorting something good
Could you do the mythology and creature from the film and book The Relic? :)
Imagine if the sequel wasn't cancelled. Who knows what heights they would've reached today.
If Hellboy didn't have so many comedic scenes jammed into one, I take it seriously. A couple is good but don't saturate the movie.
If the franchise was rebooted, it should have horror x thriller cinema themes. Something that puts me on the edge of my seat until the plot twist.
If you do it like LOTR, you get more value out of it
It's not the best movie but when I saw it in cinemas with my Dad we had a good time. It was laughter non-stop. I don't think it deserves the hate it's got. It's not anything like the old ones and that's ok, but give us some time to get over the dissapoinment of now 3rd movie and wait a while until we have an open mind.
What fucks me up is when they don't staple well enough the characters powers, especially when the character has super strength
The reboots of our old good favorite movies or bad reboots
When you said hard R rating I immediately thought of the N-word. That dude on a plane with a Burger King crown has left his mark.
I’m not saying you should cover Dog soldiers but you should cover Dog Soldiers!
Hellboy was one of my favs I hope we get redemption in the future !
this film wasnt that bad. i enjoyed it.
I definitely think instead of continuing Hellboy, red our favorite character, it should’ve been the continuation from his twin children that take up his mantel. Giving us new interesting characters.
No thanks it sounds too much like wolfenstein youngblood and that would kill the original 2 movies off
Without Perlman it was destined to fail. New guy did a great job but Perlman was born for tbe roll.
Milia, who is no stranger to films flopping at box office then coming to cult status, has faith that this film will pick up a following later on.
When you compare it to the comic time they followed fairly well. It had its ups and downs but wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be.
Honestly, I'd been ok with Hellboy IF it started toward the end, where it was him and Morgain talking to each other and AFTER that huge sequence (which was amazing), just for the 2nd half being almost a conflict of the movie, where people would fear him for having that just happen and try to work things out where the big climax would be him having to put everything in a real world threat (could been radicalists of Razputin for a callback) sacrificing millions with a nuke and to save from the humanity of it, Hellboy would sacrifice the world by teleporting the detonation to space through a spell, only for his own people simply teleporting it actually to a spiritual realm, thus kicking off a war in a future story.
So fkn underrated movie, I mean it's no masterpiece but more comic book true and really bat shit crazy! I just wanted Neil Marshall to go even more nuts with it, because gore, crazy and dark humour is Neil Marshalls speciality!
Is the 15 minutes true? it seemed longer at this point when I was watching. 13:14.
This should have just been a sequel since hellboy doesn't look as young as the first 2
this should've been a series, the movie was good in my opinion
Nim is probably a shortened form of Nimue. Who was Arthur's half sister.
Arthur's half sister was morgana
@@michaelkelley2727 Oops. My bad.
I think they should just act like this movie didn’t exist and let del Toro take his movie series back 🤦🏽♀️
It would be fantastic but I feel studio would interfere in wanting to make the film "marvel"
His films were good and enyoyeble but they werent proper faithfull adaptions, lets in this order who the villans are in Del Toro Hellboy films :"Sammael (movie nade but based upon Frog Monster), Rasputin, Kronen, Ilsa, Behemont, Ogdru Jahad all based on therie comic counterparts" wheras in Hellboy 2 the villans Mr Wink and Prince Nuada were movie made, they dont exist in the comic.
What would happen if the Golden Army fought the Ogdru Jahad?
I like Hellboy's dialogues
Who would win in a fight Ron Perlman Hellboy or David Harbour Hellboy?
Can you make a video on the silence from doctor who they first appeared in the episode the impossible astronaut
I loved the original films I don’t like how he turned into the king of hell in the remake and he had a short fil time in that form but hell it has a lot of potential
love longer videos.
