I never understood the hate for FF and FF: Rise of Silver Surfer. They were by no means great movies, but they were at least entertaining and competent from a filmmaking perspective.
Fant4stic is just depressingly bad, and made me appreciate the originals so much more.

There's a great documentary about the 1st movie. It shows that the movie was never intended to be seen by anyone and the directors and cast were totally unaware. There was some kind of loophole where the guy that bought the rights still made a load of money just by putting it into production

4:40 One of the reasons it failed was that like the early DCEU films directed by Zack Snyder it tried to be dark for dark's sake. Instead of having a dark tone that fit the story and characters like the Christopher Nolan Batman films where it fit the more realistic world he was going for, Snyder's stuff like Man of Steel and BVS were films Snyder thought would be successful just because they had a dark tone. They weren't. There was similar thinking in Fan4stic expect it was even worse and it was literally dark on top of tonally dark with almost every scene set in unlit rooms and the film having that cliche grey or black filter over it to make it look "depressing."

The one thing all of these movies have in common is how none of them seem to have any idea how to correctly portray Dr. Doom. He is the FF version of Magneto for the X-men, yet they constantly treat him like some caricature of what he is supposed to be. There will never be a great FF movie till they figure out how to make him the powerful character he is supposed to be.

I am excited for what Marvel will do with it. They won't need to make a film to keep rights, only to tie into their ever-expanding MCU. Hopefully this time in quarantine allows writers extra time to create a compelling Fantastic Four film.

Nah dude this movie is the best because it shows how people would truly feel if they got these powers. They wouldn't be happy they would hate their life and know they will be used and if they don't meet those needs they will be tested on or killed and I love the editing they did for doom and how he looks like a hellish creature they fell into a pit of green goopy magma

The ending also rips off the ending of Avengers Age of Ultron where Captain America says "Avengers" and he's about to say "Assemble" but it cuts to the end titles before he can. Reed is about to say "Fantastic Four" then it does the same. Except "Avengers Assemble" is actually paid off in Endgame when Steve says it.

What pisses me off about Fan4stick is that I can see the potential for a decent reboot. Sure it’s dark and gritty, which is inaccurate to the comics. But if the story had focused on the interplay between the characters and their dynamics, it could have at least been an interesting character study. Like exploring how Johnny and Susan formed their sibling relationship. Maybe it was difficult for them at first, since they weren’t biologically related. Or maybe show scenes of Johnny protecting his sister when they were younger or have them playfully tease each other in a quirky way that weirds other people out. Just something more interesting than the dialogue we got.
And I liked the angle of Ben and Reed’s friendship had at first. Maybe you could have had Ben becoming very jealous and feeling left out when the scientists pick Reed up for their project. Or maybe examine possible insecurities he may have had having a highly intelligent friend whereas he had average intelligence. You could even incorporate that into their powers scene, where those insecurities fuel him to become angry at his friend. Seemingly getting the short straw yet again in their escapades. And of course forgiving him as they team up to battle Doom.
And Dr Doom, you could have shown how his time on the other planet affected him. Maybe he was driven mad or maybe he felt abandoned by the group, which spurs him onto trying to get them back. All I really remember is he looked like Borat and came back a crash test dummy lol
