This video is extremely helpful! Especially with trying to find the tube for draining the diesel out of the filter area. Once I watched your video, the whole process took me about 10 minutes.
Also for opening the lid there is a Milwaukee plumber tool for under sink repair it is red with metal ends that fits perfectly I believe it called a faucet wrench
I have upgraded my fuel bowl lid with a Riffraff billet one, also I have placed a fuel line running from the hard line down to the radiator area so I can drain it every 5K and new filter every 10K.
I'll have to check out the billet cap. My truck originally had some non-oem filter with an integrated lid, switched it over to OEM back then. Good idea on the drain tube!
Right, that or 10k miles (for "extreme" use, or whatever they call it) are the common recommended intervals. I just like to do it every 5k when I do my oil changes because filters are cheap...or, they *were* cheap when I did this video anyways. Maybe I'll switch back to 10k mile intervansl :D
For a first time diesel owner I have found your videos very helpful. You explain every step easily to where us new owners can do the work ourselves. Even though you are a Broncos fan I'll let it slide...lol GO CHIEFS!!!
Hi Justin. Thank you for the great videos. They have been an immense help. I'm installing MCS suspension with reservoirs on my gr86 and I'm wondering if you are happy with the placement of the front and rear Reservoir lines? In other words if you had it to do over again would you do it differently? Thanks. James
@@TheBTRGarage Thank you I was able to figure it out and 5/16 worked very well. I also left it there and cut it up, zip tied it to a wire loom to the starter. That way I can easily connect a hose to it and drain the fuel filter bowl to change the filter more often. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the feedback. Background music is mostly filler for the non-talking periods of the video. I try to reduce the volume a lot when speaking but maybe it's coming in too loud?
*Do you plan to DIY your next 7.3 fuel filter change?*
Best video I've found. Thank You. I have a 2001 7.3 that I'm going to change it. My mechanic charged $140 to change it last time!
Wow! Well glad to help, this is a pretty good bang for your buck DIY 👍

The big red one? Wow, good to know, I have one of those and never thought to use it for this!

May I ask if Billet cap is far better than original OEM cap and why non OEM filters with cap are bad? Thanks
My 97 manual states "change fuel filter every 15,000 miles or when fuel restriction lamp is illuminated"

Great choice with the MCS! For the reservoir lines; nope, I would do it exactly the same.
@@TheBTRGarage again thank you so much Justin. Your videos have saved me hours. And have given me a lot of precision in the direction for my build.
Awesome! Glad to hear 👍
What size hose do you use for the drain?
A 1/4" ID hose will work, doesn't have to be perfect, as long as it slips over the drain tube.

Good video! Except I don’t understand why people feel they have to add music to it! It’s distracting while the person is talking!

why do I need to drain the fuel from the bowl?
You don't have to, just be prepared for a big mess of diesel fuel when you remove the old filter.
