    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  6 месяцев назад

      In the beginning I'm using simple round brush with pressure sensitivity enabled for opacity only (brush size doesnt change when i press harder on a pen). Tbh the default round brushes do 90% of work most of the time for me. Everything else is case based stuff like fog, textures, grunge etc.

    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  2 месяца назад

      Check the gradient map. It has to be black on the left side and also the group has to have the black fill layer at the bottom. Linear dodge reveals everything that is not black adding that to the layers below. If the layer or group with Linear dodge is black, it shouldn't change anything.

    Hey PolyPaint, i recently switched from Photoshop to Procreate, do you use Procreate too? and if yes will a similar technique works in Procreate? would be interesting if something like this works. please let me know

    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey! I haven’t worked in a procreate in a while. I don’t remember it having gradient map as a layer like Photoshop or Krita does. Thst would make the process non-destructible in procreate.
      I think the Gradient map in procreate is applied to your layer as a filter. You can still use the pipeline, and apply gradient map to merged group , but it won’t be as flexible and you will have to keep your group just in case you want to change the color or paint the effect more. Basically you have to reapply gradient every time you want to do some changes to your effect.
      So, yeah, you can still use it. There is a workaround.
      In photoshop you can have it as a layer and it makes the process significantly more comfortable and faster.

    • @AlgerieHD
      @AlgerieHD 4 месяца назад

      @@PolyPaint Oh wow so that means it would exist a similar method in procreate, i dont found one single video on RUclips that show something similar, maybe if you could do a little tutorial in Procreate if you find the time? that would be awesome im sure this would help alot of peoples that search something like that also a great content choice because there is no tutorial existing right now :O

    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  4 месяца назад +1

      @@AlgerieHD yeah, technically you still can use the pipeline from the video, although the simple difference of Gradient map not being a layer, but rather a filter, changes how effective and comfortable it is. It removes all the magic behind this trick.

    im confused / ive place all layers exacly how you have but when i go to paint it bleeds onto the background , any ideas why this is happening ?

    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  2 года назад +1

      Hi, it bleed onto background in my case too, I am just making manual gradient from the edge of the silhouette. You can use masks or selection to limit the area where you want to draw. If you have an object in a separate layer, press Ctrl and click on the layer thumbnail. This will select opaque pixels and now you can paint inside the silhouette. I hope this helps!

    • @PolyPaint

      Gradient map remaps color to those, according to the gradient you've chosen. To make Black stay Black, left value of the Gradient Map should be Black. This way, it will change all the rest colors only.

    • @yaya-j1j
      @yaya-j1j 4 месяца назад

      @@PolyPaint I think it's hard to explain without pics, but first...my gradient doesn't have the same options as you. Maybe different version?
      When I do put gradient that resembles yours, despite it being a gradient, it doesn't look like a gradient at all. More like a solid color, or a solid color with a outer highlight.
      Lastly, it doesn't look like a rim light falling onto a subject. It looks like a solid color overlayed onto the subject.

    • @PolyPaint
      @PolyPaint  3 месяца назад +1

      Gradient maps haven't changed for decade. I dont think its a version issue. Maybe you picked the gradient which has same color for both sides, that could make it look like a solid color. Also, gradient map layer should be in a group, with a black layer on the bottom. It will turn image into solid color if you dont change Blending mode for the whole group to Screen or Linear dodge. The painting should be inside the group, below gradient but above black layer. But you're right, its impossible to troublesoot without images.

      @rodriigoxd7 idk what exactly happens. Usually ppl forget to change blending mode of the group (gradient map should be at the top inside the group) to Linear dodge and the background inside the group is supposed to be solid black color. This way group with black layer overwrites entire screed. Idk if that was your case or it was some sort of photoshop bug.

      Hello. I've just checked the recent version of Photoshop (v 26.2) and it works the same way as before.
      This technique utilized the very basic functions of photoshop and i dont expect them to change it any time soon. Unless they completely rewrite the math behind the blending modes and do something unique. This tech uses basic math and even works in other programs like Krita.
