I've used Ableton for years pretty much exclusively in arrangement view as I'm old AF and I grew up on cubase. For some reason this simple video has finally made me realise how to use session view properly
awesome video. Ableton Noob here... still very confused why many youtube creators seem to only use arrangement view... I find it confusing to follow their tutorials
Thanks for the tutorial.I use session view for sketching, then its scenes for arranging, transitions and clip automations included.I find it more intuitive and fun.I think that's what live was being used for in the beginning. For me vertically makes more sense.(my opinion).Reminds me when I started ,using trackers like FT2.
I’ve noticed that in some of the other videos I’ve watched, the demonstrators get session view and arrangement view backwards and start calling one, the other. Hence, confusing the viewer.
Nice Tutorial ! I also have Ableton Live 10 Suite and Logic Pro X and I'm just looking for the workflow. Logic is very high quality, but especially for House production Ableton Top and the session is super fast and creative...I can finish all the building blocks from the track and then into the arrangement you mean? But I find the same with FL Studio ...a super workflow, how do you see it?
Totally agree with the workflow in ableton live. Ive never actually used fl studio but it looks like that interface is also helpful with rapidly getting ideas up and running.
If i have 3 clips say C1, C2 and C3 is midi track 1 And 3 clips say C4, C5 and C6 in midi track 2 . Is it possible to set the sequence of clips to be played in my final mix...? Say for example C3, C4, C1, C6, C5 and lastly C2... . I haven't yet understood how clips behave by default and then how to change the default way if any... . Many thanks in advance from Pune, INDIA
Ableton seems to be extremely versatile from the videos that you’ve shown me. It’s definitely a DAW to consider getting once i get enough money and ditch SONAR cakewalk
Yeah for your applications in electronic music i'd highly recommend it. Its quite pricey to get the Suite version, and they don't do free upgrades. So if budget is very tight Logic Pro X is a fantastic option, and then you can spend money on some dope plugins and VST's.
I got Lite version and I'm planning to use it for songwriting (cuz its limited to 8 tracks) and the make the production in my main Daw. thanks for the video
Yeah this video was recorded years ago before I got into lighting. If you check out a newer video you'll see the massive improvement the lighting made.
I’ve always used session and love it, but all the sudden my scenes don’t activate in sync no matter what I do. And all my scenes are the same amount of bars how do you fix this?!?
Well, I had Windows 7 since 2013 and today my friend transfered stuff from my c drive to the d..................then we installed the new c drive, we didnt delete anything from the old c drive, its in a drawer now..... so i downloaded ableton lite again and signed in, my 5 songs are gone. are they likely on the old c drive still in my drawer??? How do I get them back in my file?? are they stuck in ableton 9

Nice! Glad it helped.
What was the outcome of your experiment? Did you drop it again? Seems the opinions are split on how helpful it is.
You have no idea how much this tutorial helped my dude.
Thank you... I'm actually at the point if I need to use this view for the way I create my songs...

About the red line showing on your session view. I've seen this multiple times and I wonder what it is and how you make it appear on your screen.
That is my question too...
Thank you for this ! and I love your glasses!
I agree session view is the way to go! Great tip!
a tip : watch series at kaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Xander Vance yup, I have been using kaldrostream for years myself :)

Working non-linearly can be much more efficient!
Thank you.

@@AndrewSouthworth for House Music (Deep House) is Ableton better and faster than Logic?
Its probably the better choice to use Ableton for house music. Theyll both work, but most edm artists use Ableton.
@@AndrewSouthworth ok but many also FL Studio ? how do you see that?
Fl studio looks great, but ive never tried it. Many big artists also use that, especially in the hip hop world it seens to be very popular.
Use de-esser please, lots of sibilance (your s' are sharp). Thanks for the tutorial though, was helpful
well said, thanks brother

if you care about your lens, please get a light. It will change more than you think.

thanks for the vid! Anyone know if tempo changes are automatically recorded when you are transferring from session to arrangement?
Gr8 work bro,keep creating conten

Why do some tracks not have play buttons in session view? That has been frustrating me because I don't know how to play with looping them.
i like the glasses
Session view made me choose ableton. I wish they would improve the piano roll though
What would you like to see?
I’ve always used session and love it, but all the sudden my scenes don’t activate in sync no matter what I do. And all my scenes are the same amount of bars how do you fix this?!?
I had this happen at one point, but I don't know how I fixed it :(
How do you do MIDI takes in session view? It just does overdub?
It does overdub and other modes. You can manually click them in with your mouse

Couldn't have been put in a better way
1:07 This is the session view, not the arrangement view.
I started in session view really hard to go back
