ahhhhh I'm watching this as a senior who just applied and your vlogs make me so excited! how would you say the transportation between campus, dowton, etc. is like? is the city accessible?
heyyy! First off, I wish you luck for the results and I would say that transportation is somewhat reliable? The PVTA is the bus system that we use and it's free for college students as long as you have an ID. That lets you go to places like Northampton or nearby cities as well as the Five Colleges. As a public bus system it is usually 5-10 minutes late, but it is also on time sometimes lol. You can check the bus numbers and times on Google Maps. As for going to Boston or other major cities like New York, you can use the Greyhound bus or Peter Pan. The Peter Pan bus stop is right across the street from Amherst so it is more convenient. However, idk if it's because of COVID but it is REALLY REALLY late. More than 20 minutes of waiting and nowadays there's only one available time slot to book. During pre-pandemic times there were more time options, but it was always generally late so you have to plan accordingly. Hope this helps and if you have more question feel free to ask :)
Hi! I was looking at liberal arts schools because I have no idea what to study for college or any specialized interest in anything. Amherst came up as a good option but I was kind of looking for a larger college, like university. How did you find Amherst your freshman year? (btw I'm a junior in hs)
Hey! I think Amherst freshman year was pretty good except COVID lol Honestly you get more individualized attention and resources to explore career choices that you might like. I initially entered Amherst thinking that I would be a Biology major, but I found that I loved the Math department much more and now I am a Math major haha If you have any specific questions feel free to ask :)
Hi, I am considering amherst, but pressure and tuition are my worst fears lol. I want a degree in poetry, forensic science, or astronomy and would prefer night classes, would you suggest this college?
hey! for pressure and tuition I would say that Amherst has a very generous financial aid package for those who are low-income, and there isn't much pressure around you as everyone does their own things. If you start comparing yourself to others around you there might be pressure for yourself, but overall I believe Amherst to have a more collaborative environment. We have do have an astronomy department and I have seen some night classes for that particular department, but I do not know if there are a lot of offerings for night classes. I think most classes are over by 6pm including labs. So if you really need a majority of your classes to be at night I do not recommend Amherst
Hey!! It is 100% possible. Most of my friends and I are heavily dependent on financial aid. Amherst is very generous with their financial aid packages. They also offer resources for you throughout the semester to help alleviate some financial pressure. I applied through Questbridge so I have on full financial aid. If you have any more questions let me know!
@@solci8962 hey! yes there are definitely jobs on campus that you could work in order to earn extra money. we use something called workday where different on-campus jobs are listed. hope this helps :) and if you have more questions feel free to ask!
