I don't think you've heard "Brothers in Arms" yet, have you?? (Dire Straits cover) I consider it probably their best work (so far, anyway!). Hauntingly beautiful with 5-part harmonies that'll shake your soul! Tim & Chance lead, singing as soldiers dying on the battlefield...praising their brothers in arms, while lamenting the sadness and futility of war. Tim's breathy bass is so perfect for telling the story.
Not to say anything against Home Free but Pentatonix started the whole ball rolling. Five members that make magic happen. They lead but Home Free came in not but maybe a year or two behind them so it’s been a decade for HF and 11 going on 12 for Pentatonix. Then Voice Play ce came much better known although they came before both Pentatonix and HF. They are totally independent from big companies and are much more local area (Florida) based. That have worked in the entertainment areas like Disney and other resorts but they also have changed people in and out thru the years. Both PTX and HF have been mostly able to keep the same people thru the years with only one or two changes in people. All of the groups are fantastic in their own way.🥰🥰🥰💐🤗🤗🤗
@@nicklenights Everybody is definitely allowed to their own opinion. 👍 Music is wonderful that way. 🤗 I actually found HF by following a link on a PTX video. I liked their Christmas stuff, but most of the other stuff just doesn't do it for me (except for "Imagine"!!!). HF touches something in me no matter what they're singing. ❤ Oh, and not sure if you know, but HF has been around since Jan 2001! They're going on 23 yrs, not 10. 👍 They did have quite a few rotations in members that first decade, but the core group has basically been together since around 2009 with only 2 changes since then. They toured constantly, although at smaller venues (but like 200+ days a year, which is ridiculous!). They also did guest entertainment on cruise lines - it's how they met their high tenor! They'd already put out a few albums plus a couple Christmas albums before they won the Sing Off in 2013! I know PTX had 3 members that knew one another from school, but the band wasn't actually formed until just before the Sing Off (in 2011/2012?). Tim (the bass in HF) had already had a whole songwriting career in California and put out a solo album before joining HF. Austin (high tenor) was working as entertainment on a cruise line and before that was singing with the Voices of Liberty at Epcot/Disney. The main difference in the 2 groups now (I consider them the top 2, in reality) - discounting the music genres - is that PTX took the recording contract they won and ran with it...and it has apparently served them quite well. They are heavily promoted, get nominated for Grammies, etc. HF *hated* their contract and couldn't wait to get out from under the thumb of the record company! They bought out their contract and are now under their own label. That hurts a band majorly, but gives them SO much freedom to do what they want, how they want. 😉 Anyhow, I think they're both great bands, a capella or not, who have 10 extremely talented individuals between them!! ❤
I saw the live and was maybe 6 feet from the stage and I could hear their voices going into the microphone. This IS what they sound like. Tim's voice amplified shook debris from the ceiling.
One of their masterpieces. Awesome, respectful of the original, even paying homage to the original. But the perfect blend of their voices - I too consider this one a notch above the original.
Hi Ginger-Fry, you will never get an argument from any of us Fries when you repeat the song you are reacting to. The only problem we have is running out of words to describe how incredible and wonderful Home Free is to listen to. Keep up the great reactions.
Adam's beatboxing is unsurpassed but when he joins the rest in 5 part harmonies there is no one that can beat them. So happy we have these gentlemen in our lives
Home Free’s harmonies are unmatched! Your reactions are so pure! I love how you associate the song to your personal experiences! Enjoyed yet another reaction! ❤❤❤❤
"Ginger Fry" 🤣 AMAZING UNISON!! An exquisite 5-part harmony masterpiece!!! Besides the unbelievable harmonies, getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is such a great treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
We don't often get to hear them just sing with no beatboxing or percussion and it makes you realize just how good Adam Rupp's voice sounds. This is just so beautiful.
I personally wouldn't care how many times you play this song. I absolutely love this version. The harmonies are so amazing and beautiful. I could listen to it all day. I don't know if you noticed that Adam was singing. He has a great voice too. I too became a home fry the first time I heard them. They are exactly what I needed at the time. When I need to get happy- Home Free, smile- Home Free.
Another song where their harmonies really shine and make your heart just weep with feelings is "Brother's in Arms". I highly recommend you have tissues nearby when listening to it though. It is so beautifully done, and with such a depth of feeling, that you feel like you are right there with them.
Personal opinion, not widely shared: I think that this is Home Free's most outstanding song / result / effort. Great reaction, Ms. Ginger. And I endorse your proposed name change.
I am still learning their music, but I'm leaning towards agreeing with you in many ways. This was not an easy one to pull off and they crushed it. So, Ginger Fry sounds good? I personally love it! 🙂💜🇺🇲
In the Middle Ages, a craftsman had to submit a masterpiece in order to be accepted as a member of the guild. This is HF's masterpiece. Rupp proves that all five members are wonderfully skilled singers, and their synergy is spectacular.
Yes, Austin is the higher tenor. Chance directed this one, with the greatest respect for Crosby, Stills and Nash (and I was buying that album the minute it dropped).. Adam is lending his tenor voice to the arrangement, bringing in a 5-part harmony beyond description. The mastery of Home Free cannot be measured. Five beautiful voices blending into one perfect instrument.
Love this! One of my favorites for sure. My only complaint? It’s too short. Man, they’re so good. Love those harmonies. This was Chance’s baby. He picked the song and directed it in black and white. Perfection!😍🥰
This is one of my favourite HF covers - I'm of a similar generation and had had parents who introduced me to everything from Motown to Led Zepplin which I really appreciate! With the tenors - if it's really bell tone it tends to be Austin, if it's sweeter it's Rob - and with the bass end the bone shaking dragon is Tim and the smokey warm is Chance :-)
This is so gorgeous. Master class in 5-part harmony. Another one is their version of How Great Thou Art. Filmed in the Austrian Alps. They also have some simply amazing versions of Christmas songs. Their version of Do You Hear What I Hear, arranged by Adam Rupp, is my favorite Home Free song. Which is saying something since I've never really cared for the song and Christmas music isn't really my thing. I promise you will be blown away - even if you have to wait until the right season to watch it.
Just voices without vocal percussion sounds amazing! So glad Chance got this one together. I have listened to this more times than I can count. It’s a masterclass on harmonies, breath control, timing, etc. Thank you, Ginger.
If you really want to be amazed, there is a LIVE version of this from 2019 they sang at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. It is stunning!!! Off mic - just them standing at the front of the stage singing. You should check it out.
To me, this is complex in it's simplicity... A true masterpiece. The difficulty level of this is insane!! First, you've got one lone voice, Chance, against a stark background. No accompaniment. Then there's 2 voices (when Rob joins Chance) singing in unison, perfectly, is just crazy!!! Two voices that truly sound like one. Extremely hard to do. Then the precise cutoffs with perfect synchronization. No bleeding phrase to phrase. No room for mistakes. Just quiet, staccato-like, cutoffs. Then you get to the blending & harmony as the song progresses with each level of harmony coming in, still keeping the synchronization perfect. Then, the massive bass drops!! My word!.... Then there's the ending with them flowing ever so slightly on the last note with those small subtle harmony changes. The entire arrangement is gorgeous. Those chord structures! The dissonant notes! This one truly shows their skills & they must've practiced it for hours for days to get it to that level. And they do it all, remaining in black keeping it simple as not to disturb the mood or vocal clarity. Absolutely incredible!!! This is one of my favs (can you tell? 😄) by them because the entire video leaves me in awe! Thx for doing this one!! Great reaction!
Hi Ginger! I love watching new folks find the beautiful music made by the talented gentlemen of Home Free, going farther and farther into the rabbit hole! These 5 men must have had an angel's guidance to ensure they came together, as the harmonies they make truly can touch the soul. In one reaction you stated you enjoy patriotic music; you will love God Bless The USA, in which they were joined by the Singing Sergeants of the Armed Forces, recorded during the pandemic when the 5 were separated due to Covid. It is extraordinary, to say the least. I have two other songs I personally recommend, which truly spotlight the incredible talents of Home Free: Go Rest High On That Mountain and Brothers in Arms. Both are pretty serious and emotional pieces, but the singing is out of this world. Enjoy your journey!!
Their harmonies are always great but I love how the 1st 2 singer synchronized the words so that each started & stopped together perfectly. That’s not something I have heard often. Then add the reverb on top of such gorgeous voices & you have a masterpiece!
Some people do play songs twice. First to just listen, then to pause for comments. I like the way Chance decided to make the visuals stark, to echo the vocals. What a sound they have!
Best reaction to this performance by far! I also get emotional every time I hear it! Thanks for sharing your story and I love that you played it twice! I'm sure you noticed Adam the beatboxer was singing also! Such a versatile and talented group of awesome men! Howdy from a Texas Home Fry🤠
This is one of my absolute favorite Home Free covers and as many times as I have listened to it (many, many) I get insane goosebumps **every** time. Beautiful reaction ^_^
Thank you Ginger Fry ( I like that name for you 😀), great reaction! When they add Adam’s voice and do a 5 part harmony it is breathtaking and unmatched. Love Home Free and I am so proud to be a Home Fry! ❤️
Ginger, this video has been considered Home Free's gold standard for 5 part harmony A cappella, but arguably, HF raised the bar to a platinum standard when the did Brother in Arms, which is considered by many an A cappella masterpiece. Tim's base is featured throughout it, but their harmonies are like none other they have produced thus far. It is a Dire Straits cover and will blow you away. Other 5 part harmony songs they done are How Great Thou Art and Auld Lang Syne, both incredible as well.
Makes me smile --- a lot!!! : ) One thing you said ... "Each brings a certain range to the group... " ! Well, yes - true!!! Couldn't get any truer than that! : ) I SMILE !!! An understatement that you're just not aware of ........... YET!!! In time! We (as a group) ask that you HOLD OFF on "Mayday" till we tell ya yer ready, PLEASE!!! (or SnowGlobe, or any of their individual stuff)........ Be Safe
It's not just the harmonies; these guys are actually making vocal chords, and they're beautiful chords too! Stephen Stills wrote this song about his relationship with Judy Collins (as was Judy Blue Eyes). When Home Free covers a song it becomes Song 2.0! Loved your reaction to this! I could tell how much it meant to you.
I wasn’t really watching the first time I heard this, and didn’t realize Rob had joined Chance either because they blend so well. And not only did I hear how deep that bass was, I sing along with Tim when I listen to this.
Austin is the high tenor and Rob is the lower tenor in the group. When Adam sings he is a tenor also, then Chance is a baritone but also a bass and sings the bass when Tim is singing lead. Tim is the super low bass, but he has an impressive 5-octave range so he can also sing as high as a tenor. These guys are very versatile and unique.
The real fun starts when T. Foust is singing the lead tenor, & A. Chance is doing the bass support but they need a decent lower note that he would struggle with, who do they turn to? The guy with the largest range in the group... (Well according to Tim) *A. Rupp*
I grew up listening to Crosby, Stills & Nash & had their album with this song Helplessly Hoping. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. This song is full of alliterations. Home Free more than does justice to all the songs they cover. And this song is perfection to me with the 5 part harmonies. A true masterpiece! I can't say enough about how great these guys are & humble while still staying respectful to the original song.
Never get tired of listening to this. Showcase for their beautiful voices and has been a forever favorite song before they did this cover. Cover has a different feel from original. Won't say this is better but on par with it. It's a high bar. JUST as magical in a different way . Would I listen more often to this one? YES. Because I feel bonded to these singers. I have immersed myself in their voices. Don't know how to say it.
You make, ma cheri, a grande assessment when you speak of this product...and they themselves. BUT, what I covet in knowing is if they do the post-production Editing/Mixing/Layering and such, THAT is where the REAL magic occurs !
After listening to this song for a couple years I had to laugh listening to your intro, knowing what you were about to hear. They just take this song to a whole nother level. First time listening to your channel. If you want to continue to be blown away you need to listen to Lucy Thomas, you're going to feel like an idiot for not hearing her before now.
A new sub tonight. I’m so glad I stopped by your channel and listened with you. I love this cover as there are no drums, no one is imitating a guitar or any other instrument (like in How Great Thou Art). It’s just pure harmony. I will look up your channel and see what you’ve done. Thanks so much for your wonderful reaction.
Thank so much for subbing! I'm pretty new, but have a long and exciting list of tunes to react to ... all listener recommendations. Have a super day :)
It is just about heartbreaking that Austin is leaving, although I'm sure we can all agree that we understand that he wants time to focus on family for a while. Traveling and being away from your wife so much and hoping to just have time to enjoy each others company and also the hopes of children is a reality. Having worked in the oil field most my life I was rarely home for the holidays. So I know where he is coming from. He did in fact say that he wasn't taking of the table the chance of possibility of a future works with them.
"Helplessly Hoping" and "Brothers in Arms" are two of my Home Free favorites, they are both 5-part harmony and leave me breathless every time I hear them. Home Free's harmonies are unparalleled, in my opinion. They never disappoint no matter the genre. Subbed to witness your Home Free journey.
Everything they do is amazing, but you might really enjoy "Do You Hear What I Hear". It has Chris (done about a year before he quit and Chance joined), but it has great harmony as well as (literally) a bass undertow by Tim. Another song that works the same way is their version of "My Church" - yet another upgrade from what is a really good song (chart intro of Maren Morris).
Great reaction! I just discovered your channel, so I don't know what all you've already heard from my favorite acapella group, but you just listened to 1/3rd of what I call the Home Free Trifecta of Sheer Vocal Perfection, along with "How Great Thou Art" and "Brothers in Arms." Absolutely stunning.
I don't mind when a reactor watches the video twice, not just because I love Home Free, but because I know it can take a few times listening to their songs to pick out all the beautiful harmonies and nuances they put in each piece. Also, if there's a high part it's usually Austin, or Tim (not even kidding!).
In "Listen to the Music", all those high wails are Adam I believe. Crazy layering in that song and Adam was crazy busy - the Doobie Brothers had two percussionists and rather a lot of guitars. I hope Ms. Ginger does that one.
With the out of this world vocal ranges of Tim and Chance, it gets really hard to tell who's doing which part at times. Have you covered their version of "Mayday" originally by Cam? It's also pretty cool to hear Adam sing too since he's usually busy taking care of the percussion and other sounds
Another amazing upgrade by Home Free! For more phenomenal 5-part mastery please add I Can’t Outrun You to your list. Chance takes the lead and the beautiful video concept and direction was by him as well.
Chance directed this one song master class of acapella. He also directed "I Can't Outrun You". They each have channel(s) of their own. Chance's renditions of "The Man Who Can't Forget" & "A Whistling Lad" (on his channel) are outstanding. Tim & Austin's duets of "My Maria" & "What's It To You" (on Austin's channel) are terrific. Rob sings "ACA Top 10 Movie Themes" with VoicePlay. Tim & Austin's side project "Sweet & Low Music Co." is well worth a watch too. Keep diving down the rabbit hole!
Once you have an organized list, if you have access to the Community tab you could do polls. It’s a way to get feedback from your listeners. Four songs and vote on what to do next. Timing might be difficult.
I have never heard this song before but it took me back to 1973, and memories I havent thought about in yonks. It stirred emotions inside that I havent felt in yonks too😅. Wow! Awesomely done fellas. Shabang💥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 standing ovation 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻‼
Hi Ginger! Great reactions! If you ever get the opportunity to go see these guys live take it. You won't be disappointed. I've said it before, these guys could sing the warning label on a bottle of cyanide and make it sound appealing. They are definitely my favorite group out there. Have a great day!
Austin is the high tenor and the high notes are his. Rob is impressive and is often the "glue" in the middle that holds everything together as the low or lead tenor. A fun fact is when Austin is singing lead and Home Free needs a harmony higher than Austin, it is Tim who does it. Tim is a deep bass, but he can harmonize higher than Austin 's singing. It's mind blowing how extensive Tim's range is. He can also hit low notes easily that other basses struggle to reach.
I discovered Home Free during the pandemic which was perfect timing as I had more free time back then to check them out. I was immediately taken with them from the first song I heard which was Man of Constant Sorrow! I was fortunate enough to see them live last summer and I can tell you that they are the real deal even live! Thanks for the reaction, it is nice to see others appreciate how special Home Free is. ♥
I discovered them last year with the same song. I then discovered that they had a concert near me a few weeks before I knew they existed. What I wonder now is why I didn't know about this group earlier They should be far more well known. It seems more and more people are finding out about them, but it's nowhere where it should be.
@@lazylady8591 I completely agree with you! I think one reason could be a lot of people think of "A Capella" as kind of a barber shop quartet kind of sound which is not the case with Home Free. Even I admit I would never have guessed how much I love A Capella and Home Free especially since my favorite band for years was/is Led Zeppelin lol
@@mamabears34 I was never interested in acapella or country. I listened to a wide range of music, especially rock. Home Free though has further expanded my musical horizons. The weird thing is how happy their music makes me, even the sad songs. Others comment on similar experiences.. I have enjoyed other bands and musicians, but Home Free is almost like a happiness generator. Maybe it's the perfect harmonies. Lol I think that you are right that people confuse acapella with barbershop. Some reactors have said that Home Free sounded like a barbershop quartet. They change their minds later as they go down the rabbit hole.
Once again I agree with you completely! A big part of my attraction to Home Free is how their version of cover songs and originals make me feel! Just hearing one of their "happy" type songs can just make your whole day! :o)
2 other great songs of many by Homefree are (Dire Straits) Brother In Arms & Folsom Prison, both awesome. An Australian singer you may enjoy also is a bloke named John Farnham. His rendition of the Beatles Help & Led Zepplin's Black Dog. Awesome.
You should listen to some of Home Free's collaborations: Children Where Do I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers, One Voice with Billy Gilman and American Pie with Don McLean. Another band suggestion Mike and the Mechanics: The Living Years
Another song by Home Free that makes me think angels are singing is Auld Lang Syne...so you might want to check that out some time. And for a short...and rare...solo by Adam (beatboxer), listen to their beautiful rendition of How Great Thou Art
After brothers in arms I would suggest listening to “mayday” if you want you’re mind blown over the octave range of Tim and actually all of the guys. I love this group if you haven’t caught on lol lol
One commenter advised that I not listen to Mayday until I'm told I'm ready. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it makes me want to listen to it right away. Lol 🤣
You might be interested in some of other songs that are by Home Free members individually or with others. Misty Mountain --Tim Foust with Peter Hollens Long Black Train--,Tim Foust with Chris Rupp Hooked On a Feeling --Tim Foust with the Bass Gang Will You Love Me Tomorrow/Stay--Tim Foust singing all of. the parts. Alone Bring Him Home --Austin Brown solo Unchained Melody --Austin Brown solo My Maria --Austin Brown, Tim Foust, Chris Chatam Nessum Dorma,--Rib Lundquist, Austin Brown Whistling Lad - Adam Chance with The Hound and Fox This is just a small sample.
Welcome to the family , Home Fry !
Thank you! 💜
Absolutely no other group I've heard can come close to the sound of Home Free's 5-part harmony! This song is truly a masterclass in harmony. 😳❤👍

That is an excellent way to describe it!
Fully agree with this comment. Neither way is wrong. Or right. Both have their place.

Thank you!
Thank you! I adore this group! Also, I'm checking out Brothers In Arms today. Have a super Sunday :)
Such a sweet and moving reaction to such an amazing song. Thank you for this. 🙏
Thank you, friend!
It is perfection!
I love watching reactors who know the original song before Home Free covers it 😊
This is one of my favourites by HF.
New subscriber here.
Thank you so much for the sub! I truly appreciate your support :)
Aww, thanks so much! Love from a Utah Home Fry :)
This is one of my absolute favorite Home Free covers and as many times as I have listened to it (many, many) I get insane goosebumps **every** time. Beautiful reaction ^_^
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you Ginger Fry ( I like that name for you 😀), great reaction! When they add Adam’s voice and do a 5 part harmony it is breathtaking and unmatched. Love Home Free and I am so proud to be a Home Fry! ❤️
I'm proud to be one as well! I just wish I'd have found these guys sooner. Better late than never, I guess 💃💜🍟
Absolutely gold standard performance. Just unbelievable! I'm reacting to Brother In Arms today. Can't wait!
One of my favorites by Home Free. Thank you!
Truly my pleasure :)
Be Safe
Masterpiece
So perfect!! 💕🇬🇧
Thanks! Yes, this song is a favorite and important to me for sure! 🙂
Chance can also sing tenor
Adam can also sing high tenor.
And all of the members have well developed falsetto extensions so you can never be quite certain who is up in the stratosphere.
I get the feeling that the highest tenor we hear at 4:45 might be Adam?
The real fun starts when T. Foust is singing the lead tenor, &
A. Chance is doing the bass support but they need a decent lower note that he would struggle with,
who do they turn to?
The guy with the largest range in the group... (Well according to Tim)
*A. Rupp*
Listen to HOW GREAT THOU ART it will blow you away
🤠 HF ❤ are 😇 Angels. Great reaction 💖
Thank you!! 😁
Another standard that they've made a favorite is their version of "Auld Lang Syne"
The videography is chef’s kiss for this performance. I think
Very nice reaction.
Another one to blow you away - Dire Straits , Brothers in Arms. 👍🏻reaction!
Today is the day for that one! :)
This has always been one of my Home Free favorites. Thanks for doing a reaction. Another fave of mine is Brothers In Arms.
Reviewing Brothers In Arms today :)
Thanks for subbing! I have a long and exciting journey ahead :)
This was so amazing! The harmonies were so very awesome! Love your reaction!
Thank you so much!!
In a just world, Home Free would be one of the biggest groups around.
Oh so true... but then I couldnt afford to see them in person... Im ok with that tho! 😉
I love your interpretations of songs.
Awww, thanks so much!
I can understand luvin harmonies. Like you my mim got me interested in the beegees
Added!
Your going to love it
Chance directed this one song master class of acapella.
This rabbit hole is the BEST! :)
Love your mention of Tim hitting that low note. Just wait until you hear Brothers in Arms!
My plan is to listen to that one today. It's been highly recommended and I can't wait!
Once you have an organized list, if you have access to the Community tab you could do polls. It’s a way to get feedback from your listeners. Four songs and vote on what to do next. Timing might be difficult.
Great idea! I really like that, thanks :)
Thank you! I can't wait to see them live and I will travel to do so ;) Have a super day, friend!
@@ginger_snapz_369 You're welcome and you have a great day also!
Let's not forget that the beat boxer also has a great singing voice yet we rarely get the chance to hear his singing voice.
Austin is the high tenor and the high notes are his. Rob is impressive and is often the "glue" in the middle that holds everything together as the low or lead tenor.
A fun fact is when Austin is singing lead and Home Free needs a harmony higher than Austin, it is Tim who does it. Tim is a deep bass, but he can harmonize higher than
Austin 's singing.
Lol
I think that you are right that people confuse acapella with barbershop.
Every tune so far has blown my mind. They are easily one of my fave groups ever :)
2 other great songs of many by Homefree are (Dire Straits) Brother In Arms & Folsom Prison, both awesome. An Australian singer you may enjoy also is a bloke named John Farnham. His rendition of the Beatles Help & Led Zepplin's Black Dog. Awesome.
Thank you for doing Home Free! I luckily just found you! ^i^
Welcome and thank you!
Sub due to your full knowledge and appreciation to my favorite of HF's covers.
Wow, thanks! Welcome, friend! :)
You should listen to some of Home Free's collaborations: Children Where Do I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers, One Voice with Billy Gilman and American Pie with Don McLean. Another band suggestion Mike and the Mechanics: The Living Years
I've never heard of Mike & the Mechanics. I will absolutely check them out. Thank you!
@@ginger_snapz_369 The Living Years is a very beautiful and emotional song. However, One Voice is the most emotional song I have ever heard.
I highly recommend you listen to homefree rendition of “ brothers in arms” another spectacular piece
Yes! Doing it today :)
I lov peatatonics and voiceplay. But home free harmonies are unmatched in my ears
I tend to agree with you on this!
Lol 🤣
I like "Ginger Fry"! Go with it.
Love your reactions. Just found you, but you clearly understand and appreciate the music. I just subscribed. 🙂
Thank you so much!
