Hey Brian, soon after I started working out about 5 months ago, I found your channel. 5 months ago I was 6'3" and roughly 150 lbs. No I'm 165 lb.s and I just hit a new record today of being able to bench press 135 lbs 5 times (with set sets with increasing weight leading up to that), when I use to struggle with just 95 lbs once! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Thing about it is, you can't always judge how much a guy has in the tank by the speed of the lift. There are some just really explosive guys out there who can send a deadlift up with max effort, and it looks like they could've repped it, but add five or ten more pounds and they would've failed the lift entirely. Arnold is going to be sick this year.

He had to bow out of events that he bangs out with ease when healthy. He's only 36, isn't shopworn and has had no major lasting injuries. He's in his prime now.

Yeah Kieliszkowski is horrible at deadlift. Brian could help him there. But if Kieliszkowski got around the fucking natural stones, he could pick up and skip the 400lb one across a lake just for fun.
I love how he can just turn the intensity off and on. He can be calm and approachable to explain his lifts to the camera, but when it’s go time he’s all business. A true professional and amazing role model!

Thanks for the videos! I am wondering about the DL technique you are using in this video. I tend to DL and have my clients DL the same way. There have been a lot of IG/RUclips videos lately however about starting with the hips higher and simply making the DL more of a hinge movement. Maybe you could address your opinions about this in a different video. My opinion is that neither is wrong or right, it just depends on ones comfort level in the different techniques. Since I come from a weightlifting background, I appear to be more comfortable starting with my hips lower, like yours in the video. Best of luck in your upcoming contests.
Martins Licis recently posted a video about deadlift form. He's not Brian Shaw, but he is still one of the strongest men in the world, and with a hip injury.
It has a lot to do with your limb lengths and anthropometry. If he were to deadlift with typical form, he would be doing a stiff legged deadlift. He would have to bend over nearly horizontally and it would entirely load on his back and could also cause hip injuries as well. Some people have to keep their hips way lower to have to avoid having a huge mechanical disadvantage. This is pretty unusual for someone as tall as him as they usually have longer arms than torsos, however his arms come right below his dick, which is actually pretty high up for someone his height.
Christopher Edwards Brian Shaw is 6’5” The way he deadlifts you shouldn’t imitate. He takes a wide stance Becuase he has wide structure. You should normally start feet hip width, slightly out, bar over mid foot, shoulders slightly over the bar, and shins just touching the bar
they havent given one to Thor either, and bear in mind they favor thor ahead of brian in terms of sponsorship. I think it is because elephant bar is a show gimmick and they want it to remain exclusive to arnold classic. Thor said he had a longer bar made to match the elephant bar, so no, noone has an elephant bar.

Hate to be a nag, but I saw a Larry Wheels video where he was training with Thor, and Thor's first week of deadlifts was 951lbs for 2 reps. He's upping the weight next session.

Just started watching gym youtubers and you guys need to be taught a lesson in lifting correctly and no offence Brian but I’ve seen guys at my gym lift heavier then you. For example my boy the king of lifting and defying records Bradley “BOOM BABY” Castleberry is the only who really rules lifting on the internet. Anywho hope you fix your problems and you might achieve this local meet up or whatever your training for!

Hey friend your form on the lifts could do with some work. You’ll be able to lift heavier and not hurt yourself in the long run! Just started watching gym youtubers and you guys need to be taught a lesson in lifting correctly and no offence Brian but I’ve seen guys at my gym lift heavier then you. For example my boy the king of lifting and defying records Bradley “BOOM BABY” Castleberry is the only who really rules lifting on the internet. Anywho hope you fix your problems and you might achieve this local meet up or whatever your training for!
