I am now in love with Ivan Trevino's writing. I love this duet, Catching Shadows, and 2+1. I really want to start learning some of his pieces. They're just stellar, and amazing players too!
It's got some of the best ideas from both Catching Shadows and 2300 Degrees along with its kwn complete uniqueness especially in the chorus around the 2:45 mark that shows up a couple times
You guys play so beautifully together and everything grooves so well and sounds great. I have been working on this piece with a student, we hope to virtually record it together and I have listened to and watched this video many times. It never gets old. Great playing, thank you for sharing it with all of us.
I don't know what it is about this piece but its just great. Although it does make it better to have to very capable musicians playing it the interpretation was lovely.
Beautiful playing! I'm wondering if you could explain a little bit about your mic set up? Sound quality is fantastic and I'd love to know how you achieved it.
Beautiful piece, beautiful playing, beautiful audio - but what's the story on the video quality? I don't tend to fuss, but this looks like it was shot using the NASA mars rover or something. I watch classical guitarists and other similar things sometimes and it's just simple and elegant. This music and performance deserves the same....
I find it does not add extra strain to my hands like Steven's grip had done to me in the past. It is important to understand no Four-mallet grip is perfect and all have their pros and cons.
MrMagicpantz200 It is intended for 2 5 octave marimbas, however we have played this with one 5 octave and a 4.3 before and switched interments half way through.
After playing this myself I feel like it's safe to say that the balance between you two was not as good as it could've been. So much low marimba, not enough of the high marimba, even though that's the part that usually has the melody.
I want my life to be as beautiful as this piece is.
I adore your comment.

That's my schools percussion instructor! My friend sent this video to me because he just clicked on it and saw who was in it...hi Mr. Blackard
MiX Hi. Have a good time. Thanks for watching.
The one with a blue or black shirt?
I love how you can hear the attack of the mallets but it's still soft and pleasant. Awesome recording!
God, not only is Ivan Trevino (the composer), amazing at writing good pieces, but their interpretation of the music is so perfect for this piece.
Sounds like a remix of Catching Shadows, this is beautiful and love the chemistry guys

2:30 makes me feel at peace I'm in high school and this by far is the best piece I've heard In a while
I swear to god this is one of the best marimba diets I've ever heard
Duets*
lol
Yea the marimba got slimmer
Theres one marimba duet thats quite beautiful called insomnia, if u like this one you may like it
that's why this diet is called into the air... its so light!
By far the best recording of this piece I have seen so far
even tho i’m not in percussion or band anymore this duet still slaps
Love the dynamic contrast!! You two really sync well with other. Congrats on the work. :)
+Tyler Logan Thanks!
Beautiful piece, wonderful performance and superb recording! I want this piece to go on forever.
Congratulations, you play very good!

This is seriously just art.
I strive to achieve this level of skill
Lovely!!!!! thanks for posting!
Great job guys!!! Love it.
Just started working on these piece with my colleague. Can’t wait to get it this good!
Gaaaaa so tempted to ask my band director to buy this for me and my friend to play. This is great. I listen to it every night while I do my homework.
How long did it take you to learn it?
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind when we look for a song to play at our spring concert next year.
If you don't mind me asking how old are you? Like sophomore, senior,... I'm just getting an idea of how long it might actually take.
To learn it.
It’s so weird how the fact that this piece was played on marimbas and not a piano makes it so much more mesmerizing
This is beautiful
Great performance, congratulations.

I’m just now realizing this is brant blackard and he came and helped teach a marimba camp at swosu in 2019
Very Nice
Thanks for watching!
das hab ich auch schon gespielt
I just noticed, did McM use a modified version of the phrase around 0:55 in their 2014 show?
Ian Lazo yes yes they did good show too

This comment was hilarious, thank you
1:04 I feel like I'm actually flying..
Matthew i think this is what god sounds like!
Matthew Yeah! This is my favorite part too😁
And people say Trevino's music isn't good...
Timmitny who says?
Excellent performance! Quick question, how do you find the Burton grip compared to the Stevens grip on Marimba?
I find it does not add extra strain to my hands like Steven's grip had done to me in the past. It is important to understand no Four-mallet grip is perfect and all have their pros and cons.
Very true. Thanks for replying!
Dang! I bet the sheet music looks black with all of the notes they're playing
It's actually not so bad! Yes it's a lot of notes but there are a lot of repeated patterns/melodies.
What Mallets are using? You and your friend.
It's an amazing interpretation of this piece, AMAZING!
+Manuel Mota I am using Van Sice's mallets through Vic Firth. I believe Brant is using Stout's from Malletech.
+Eric Scherer Are those the m125s? I have two pairs of those! Excellent playing by the way
speed this up to 1.25 and it sounds really freaking cool
Ahhhhh what mallets are you guys using???? I love this piece so much :)
what mallets are yall using because they make the music sound phenomenal
My main man Brant
4:20, brown hair switches technique. Are thumbs supposed to be inside the the stick or on it?
He is playing cross grip, which needs the thumb inside at times to expand to larger intervals.
he switches from Stevens to cross for intervals
cool
Thanks for watching!
nice
Thank you!
does anyone know which part in this is easier?
MALCOLMKICKS They’re fairly similar in difficulty in different ways.
Stupid Question: Does this have to be on two 5 octaves, or can it be on two 4.3's?
MrMagicpantz200 It is intended for 2 5 octave marimbas, however we have played this with one 5 octave and a 4.3 before and switched interments half way through.
Anyone else hear “catching shadows” in this piece?
Oh yeah...no doubt....similar motifs, progressions...totally Trevino!
what type of marimbas are these???
Looks like a 5 octave Adams Alpha series to me!
They're Dynasty 5 Octave Honduran Rosewoods.
What grip is the guy with the brown hair using?
+DashBoardMaster I can almost swear he is using 2 different grips pause at 3:34
+DashBoardMaster Looks like Burton in the right and Stevens in the left
Cross grip.
Old fashioned af lol
It's the Burton grip.
+Spencer Baker you're right, the inside is under the outside.
Are those padauk bars??
+Kyle Sholinder Nope. They're rosewood. Sorry for the late response.
+Eric Scherer lol you're fine.. I was just curious because of the orangish tinge the bars have in the video!
brao
An amazing piece for sure, but heres a hot take..
This is 2+1 pt.2
hmmm nice
Thanks!
nobody noticed this is windows to the soul from mystique (i know they used this not the other way around)
One is using Burton grip, the other is using Stevens grip. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
and
Your point being
kop
Thanks!!!
das

No one cares
