  • White Pines by Michael Burritt - Performed by the Eastman Percussion Ensemble, Colleen Bernstein, Aaron Locklear, Catherine Cole, Kyle Peters and Michael Burritt.
Post Production editing by Colleen Bernstein.
White Pines is the second movement of the three movement work, Home Trilogy. The work was commissioned and premiered by the percussion group Nexus, Michael Burritt soloist in May 2015.
    Home II.
    By Kelsey Peterson
    Snow shakes the limbs
    but does not break them,
    they hold,
    laden with white.
    The dusting glints
    in sunlight, fastens
to the branch, secured with frost.
There is a way to live.
    Each evergreen
bearing snow into the blue sky
    knows.
    At night,
    the pines radiate
    a grey opaque
    in starlight.

I got to see him rehearse it with the Fresno State percussion, it was amazing. He's an amazing artist and a really funny man. Michael Burrit is incredible.

It feels amazing knowing that I got to play this piece for indoor, because this man is a great definition of what it means to be a percussionist

What an amazing piece! I got the lucky opportunity to see this piece played by Professor Burritt himself at this year's North Carolina Day of Percussion event. The video showcase is incredible, but there is nothing like hearing this in real life.

I wish there was a solo version available for just the marimba. I can only dream though...

This is an absolutely amazing work of art. I saw Dr. Eric Hollenbeck and a percussion ensemble from CSU perform this at the King Center in Denver a few months ago.

I love how I heard some parts of blue ridge In this (another composition he wrote) but I don’t know using that same phrasing at times made me just feel like I knew what was gonna happen which isn’t a bad thing
