I was an ER nurse for 30 years in a very large emergency department in a capital city. I have treated or been involved in hundreds maybe a thousand gun shots. Everything from 25acp to 12 gauge slugs. I would say most deaths were from a 22lr. Face, neck center mass is a killer. I think many times the person didn't realize they had been shot or how serious the shot and didn't get medical care until it was too late. They would come to the ER with more than half their blood volume in their abdomen! Don't underestimate the 22lr! It will kill!
As you admitted, they made it to the emergency room, which means they were still able to return fire and do a lot of damage after being hit. I was shot in the leg with a .22 and my father (WW2 vet) just pulled it out with tweezers. How many ,308 or 30-06 made it to the emergency room? Any states allow you to hunt with a ,22LR? There is a reason. My SHTF rifle is a .308 with a scope, I am good to 800 yards with a range finder. But the .22 LR is an excellent choice for liberals
The thing about the 22 lr is that you can fire lots of rounds really fast due to it's low recoil, they are also very easy to shoot accurately and in a self defense situation shot placement is key. The type of round is very important too, none of that standard velocity or subsonic crap which is probably what you " got shot in the leg with" and pulled out with "tweezers" which is really suspect, not saying it couldn't happen depending on muscle, fat and bone density, it is possible, but kinda hard to believe this actually happened to you.
@FelixAugusto-p3i it's hard to believe bc he's full of shiit....unless he got hit with a 22lr out of a pistol at over 100yds with a hollow point then maybe....I got hit in the thigh from about 80yds away and it was 5.33" deep...I also have been shot with #6 birdshot from about 50yds away and even those had to be 1/2- 3/4" deep...

I loved the video. I hear too many people knock 22, just because of their lack of knowledge. This information is very good for people who don't know. Also, this is the first time I've seen your videos, I subscribed.
Many snipers in the Yugoslavian civil war liked 22lr because even with improvised silencers they were nearly silent. If you round off the back of a 10/22 bolt it changes the geometry to push the hammer back and will cycle subsonic ammo. Go vols!
I have a ruger 10/22, suppressed with a Dead Air Mask. I have zero cycling problems with subsonic ammo, standard velocity is nearly silent, just the bolt closing and the steel ringing is all you hear. Puts CCI #0035 into one ragged hole.
I’ve only been saying this for over 25+ yrs. A .22 is a formidable round with proper placement. And you need to take the psychological effect of a person who’s never been shot at, much less been in combat, being shot at, and or shot. I would bet my life on my 10-22. And I’ve got a semi .22 mag in the truck, pretty much at all times now. And I wouldn’t bank on those buckets of blanks. Those will make your gun dirtier, faster than a quality round, like the CCI Raptors, Stingers, Winchester Power Points. And the extractors WILL give out. I can’t even begin to imagine how many rounds my 10-22’s had put through it. After thousands of rounds mine chipped. Replaced it with a new one and at the time I ordered I ordered an extra + firing pin. And as far as suppression you will barely hear a bolt gun with subs, it’ll be quieter than a non-suppressed air gun. With a semi, the 10-22 in particular you will pretty much only hear the action. With supersonic rounds with a suppressor you will hear the crack of the round breaking the sound barrier with either gun, not the action.
Love .22LR's. Great SD in the handgun format as recoil is minimal and placement potential in any situation is maximized. Not as powerful as say a .380, but cheaper and more carry friendly. Would love to see more in .22Mag guns in the market, but the potential upside across from LR is minimal (it's more the bang than the punch). As you guys said, if one chooses this option, one needs to get good ammo. CCI is the best bet for any brand .22LR you chose.
If you’re shooting with a silencer - yes, it can be called a silencer since the original Maxim patent name it that - it’s better (IMHO) to shoot “standard velocity” rounds. With ‘high velocity’ rounds, you’re going to get that relatively loud crack as the rounds break the sound barrier. With ‘standard velocity’ (subsonic) rounds you’ll optimize the effect of a silencer. There’s also an argument to be made with subsonic rounds, you avoid the inherent stability issues that arise in transonic flight. Be careful about using CB or “Quiet” rounds in long guns so to not wind up with a squib. Additionally, these lower power ‘quiet rounds’ may not cycle an automatic properly. Just a couple of things to be aware of. 👈

I like 22lr, and agree with most of what is said. However one other disadvantage vs larger rounds for bigger game is distance. It's hard enough to reach out further distances with a larger caliber. If you need to go hunting, you probably want to get some bigger game when possible.
I liked your discussion about self defense range and self defense weapon. All the .22 needs to do is penetrate four inches or so in order to get to numerous arteries and veins in your torso. Definitely a viable option.
Good video!! I've got the Tauras T22x myself and my next purchase will be a Ruger 10/22. That or a laser sight for the pistol. Have a blessed day gentlemen!!
I hate to tell you, but I shoot more 22 long rifle than anything. I have one of those Cmmg 22 LR kits and I train with it. The ammo is cheaper. It is still the same manual of arms. I can run subs in it and my neighbors only hear the metal going and they live 200 feet away now if I put supers in it of course you know that’s a different story but I can go to Walmart and get some of those Four dollar boxes and have a lot of fun for cheap
I’m in the middle of moving right now and had to move my ammo. I have a larger than normal ammo box with over 11,000 rounds of .22 and it wasn’t fun. It adds up.
So far my fav 22 pistol has been the S&W 422 absolutely love that little guy only slight draw back is only holds 10 in the mag but I got 5 mags extra so 6 in total if I can’t get stuff done with 60 rounds I better just give up
I think for a chill area 22lr is great but if you have a good safe zone like a rural area you can just keep all your guns nice and accessible and be fine
A recoil boot on the CZ would give you a little longer LOP while being easily removeable. My wife and I each have the Backpacker Takedowns but we like the S&W 15-22's better. They take down and have adjustable stocks. Break down for cleaning, less ammo sensitive and easy to attach a flashlight or bipod. Don't overlook the 10-22 Chargers. Easy to suppress without being too long. We each have Keltec P17 pistols with 12 mags combined. I also have a Ruger 22lr bolt action and a Henry lever in 22lr. Head shot between the eye and ear is the needed kill shot on bears.
ive been hit with a 22lr in the thigh, it almost completely severed my sciatic nerve for a year and a half i was in a wheelchair. to this day my foot is still halfway numb and leg tingly. Ppl who say 22 cant do damage are nuts
A .22 LR bolt action rifle with a scope could come in handy for either hunting or reaching out and touching an enemy. Even unsuppressed the .22 is pretty quiet. From the longer barrel it is even quieter. Without movement of the action, it gets even quieter. The 10/22 is great for rapid repeat shots. There are some good 25 round mags and even drums available which(when fully loaded) will be lighter and more practical than drums on other rifles. If the SHTF and some troublemakers are only carrying weapons such as bricks and baseball bats, a .22 rifle from further away has the potential to solve the problem before it reaches you. Though it may be wise to also carry a decent power handgun on you for insurance in case the .22 fails to stop them and they begin closing the distance. A small .22 pistol could function in a way that bayonets were used in the past. After a battle there may be enemy combatants on the ground. Some may be questionable without obvious wounds. One way that bayonets were used in the old days was to ensure that those who were down were unable to stealthily get back up when your head was turned and attack you. Though bayonets have fallen out of favor and are rarely used. A .22 pistol carried on could essentially(and inexpensively) perform the same task. All without the concern of getting too close, having a blade get stuck(making your rifle less accessible in the process) in a body, or having to clean potentially pathogenic red stuff off of it.
Hands down the ultimate SHTF firearm is the single shot, break action 12 gauge shotgun. Stick a long rifled .22 adapter down the barrel, or any other caliber smaller than a 12 gauge. Then, for maximum versatility, get a 12 gauge blackpowder muzzleloader adapter that accepts .209 shotgun primers. Then you can carry lead shot, which can be melted down into 12 gauge caliber balls with a hand tool. (Think the Patriot)
Unfortunately the ruger 10 22 while fun requires cleaning about every 300 rounds or less. I've run bricks and bricks, through a remington speedmaster.the older Stevens, savage, gill reciever guns and the original browning ba22 will also run longer.
Out of my 6 guns 3 of them are 22LR I have a Remington Targetmaster single shot, a Rossi RS22 and an H&R model 930 Double Action Revolver. My other guns are a Ruger Max-9, a Savage 110 .243 and a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge.
Is that target master a 510? I have one it's very accurate. Also love quiet cci 45 grain going 835fps. Super super quiet from a bolt gun and pretty accurate.
Ive had more 22's that a cat's got liver pills, always have at least 2 rght now have a rossi rs 22 and old marlin model 60. Never had problems with cheap ammo, thunderbolt is my fav
7:55 I've heard stories. The short answer is yes, with proper shot placement. I'm not condoning poaching, hunting with a 22, or breaking the law, but if it's an emergency or the apocalypse....
I think people are trying to combine SHTF with survival. In a survival situation, 22lr is a huge benefit, in SHTF it isn't as useful, just my opinion.🤷♂
That mag pul breakdown.22 Semi automatic rifle is a John M Browning design that he would developed in 1907 the first 22 automatic breakdown rifle and yes, you do get spoiled it. Brownings original design held 10 .22 long rifle riunds 😊
22 I viable to a point. If all you was worried about was feeding yourself yeah it be fine but that probably not going to be the case. 9mm is not really effective for protection. I would rather have a large caliber. Yeah you can carry 1400 rounds in a pocket but how meany rounds you gonna go through on one person or larger animal to get it to go down?
There's a reason 22 lr has been associated with assassins. It's dirt cheap, lightweight, readily available, easily suppressed, common enough to make it difficult for investigation, and hits hard enough to be fatal but not enough to be noticeable or to overpenetrate.
I was told a long time ago by an elderly gentleman to stock up with all the .22 you can get, it will be like “currency” one of these days…with the world the way it is right now, i don’t think he is to far off.
I can also add to this conversation even more, as a retired game warden, absolutely can confirm that the true poachers weapon of choice is a 22, especially at night. They are quiet, hard to discern “where the shot came from” and can take a 150 class buck down in its steps with a well placed shot.
If you can fire your weapon and actually hit what you're aiming at it doesn't matter what caliber you use there's no chance of surviving a shot to the head from a 9 mm a 45 5.6 308 or the lowly 22 long rifle the difference is you can fire 10/22 in the time you can fire 3-9 mm. End of the pointed out you can carry in almost an exhaustible amount of ammunition with a 22 everything from Sonic to blistering Federal punch
Those CCI Mini mag rounds are great to use I tried them a few times but sadly CCI in the UK is a waste of time to deal with as they won't let any firearms store in my area of the UK stock CCI ammo. Thank you for the video. 👍
22 is the round that keeps moving each time someone takes a breath and doctors have a hard time locating. 22 is my shtf as is 5.7 easy to carry ammo and not draw attention if I use it. I'm trying to evade not have a shoot out.
Does anyone need multiple 10-22's and Ruger SR-22's? Probably not, but there is something to be said for identical stock rifles and pistols, over time the situation might arrive where cannibalizing parts to keep a functional weapon is necessary. That, and the sheer volume of .22LR one can acquire over time. Suppressing fire is suppressing fire, nobody ever said, hey, that's a .22, let's rush them!
22lr is fairly weak but it still has to be respected. It's just not going to blast a big hole. Shotguns in my opinion are for raw damage and close quarters 22lr or really ideally 22magnum which is far superior in most ways. Are more of a deterrent something that can be fielded in combat but I would not trust to quickly incapacitate a hostile
1400 rounds of .22 for under 100 bucks thats a lot of rounds but a the end of the day theyre still an inadquate round thats is well known for having failures to fire the and the more the round is moved and carried about increses the likelyhood of a failure that being said why not buy a hundred bucks worth of say .38 or 9mm and have a more reliable round thats drastically more powerful and has a is known to be good for self defense and also has statistics available online to verify its effectiveness and thousands of video documented cases proving its effectiveness
I would get a 22, but I live in the communist state of IL, so I would only be able to buy 10rd mags. For home defense Im leaning towards a 556 or 300 bo rifle, ill buy a 22 after that personally. But I love 22, first cartrige Ive ever shot and it shoots like a bb gun lol.
In my personal experience 22lr is not adequate for self defense S.H.T.F. or shooting anything dog size or larger the reliability just isnt there can it dogs and larger things yes it certainly can if if it fires and isnt a squib load are you gonna neutralize a human sized threat in one shot with a .22 more than likely no if you got multiple targets to fire at then the answer is even more likely to be no and the likelyhood of you sustaining a life changing or even life ending injury is really likely dont get me wrong .22 will injure the intended everytime assuming of course that it goes and the shooter doesnt miss but the injury likely wont be debilatating i know the some one is gonna scream headshot one shot one kill to them i say good luck making a head shot when your actually afraid for your life and under such heavy stress my .22 experience is documented on my channel
yes .22 is good for squirrels and rabbits and other small critters but for hunting say hog or deer or larger.22 in its rimfire configuration is illegal in all states for those that dont know there are centerfire .22 rounds readily available .22/250 .222/556 N.A.T.O. all total theres like .14 different .22 caliber rounds that are available

So far my fav 22 pistol has been the S&W 422 absolutely love that little guy only slight draw back is only holds 10 in the mag but I got 5 mags extra so 6 in total if I can’t get stuff done with 60 rounds I better just give up
Excellent pistols. I owned the 622 model, slightly longer barrel, for about 15yrs. Loved it and wished I'd never sold it

@@1sttimegunowner yes!
I think for a chill area 22lr is great but if you have a good safe zone like a rural area you can just keep all your guns nice and accessible and be fine
Yeah

I have the savage 64f in stainless steel. Its accurate and havent had a misfire yet. I only shoot mini mags, stingers and federal subsonic 45 grain.
MP 15 22 in the pistol form is viable and worth it
Oh yeah
@@cgsimons1187 yes
Nobody ever really shelves the .22, sleep on it sometimes. Ive got a pimped out 10/22, always a conversation gun. Love that thing
@@andrewkeeton3627 absolutely
I’ve never cleaned mine. Still runs strong

@@stevieray8822 I agree u could absolutely barter with it
I can also add to this conversation even more, as a retired game warden, absolutely can confirm that the true poachers weapon of choice is a 22, especially at night. They are quiet, hard to discern “where the shot came from” and can take a 150 class buck down in its steps with a well placed shot.
nuts! i have a double lever action 458 tropical one shot and everyone runs away
Add a bore snake and lube to ur 22 magpul stock storage, as 22s need cleaned more than anything else basically!!

In my personal experience 22lr is not adequate for self defense S.H.T.F. or shooting anything dog size or larger
the reliability just isnt there can it dogs and larger things yes it certainly can if if it fires and isnt a squib load are you gonna neutralize a human sized threat in one shot with a .22 more than likely no if you got multiple targets to fire at then the answer is even more likely to be no and the likelyhood of you sustaining a life changing or even life ending injury is really likely
dont get me wrong .22 will injure the intended everytime assuming of course that it goes and the shooter doesnt miss but the injury likely wont be debilatating i know the some one is gonna scream headshot one shot one kill to them i say good luck making a head shot when your actually afraid for your life and under such heavy stress my .22 experience is documented on my channel
