In my last ENDLESS SUPER EXPERT video, I got this heinous 300 SECOND speedrun level. The level seems easy enough at first, but as it drags on, and on... it starts introducing weird parts that can easily kill you, and each time you die you have to restart the ENTIRE THING.
PS - this video was originally coming out on Friday but I moved it because of the 3D world release, so that's why I said the live stream was TODAY. Whoops.

Honestly that was a pretty well designed and creative speedrun. Aside from the excruciating length, it’s actually a pretty good level.
The stage is actually really good IF they add two check points.
Even one check point will make this stage immensely better.

Well designed is a stretch, the traps, jank setups and lenght make it garbage, but yes, its well fitted together. If they had some setup whe you could practice individual sections, or choose which section to start with, this level would've been a lot better.

@@luco4222 Lol, He deserves some attention and has some characteristics I find relatable. Otaku (obvious) willing to broaden more than his students' minds but their lives (In junichirou's case, for his selfish desires) and comes up with ways to make education for his students easier so they may do what they are passionate about, which is very relatable in South Africa as I am convinced the purpose of the schooling is to get the kids through it so they join the workforce, I hope I can make it easier for them.

I know that this level was difficult, but it was nice to see an actual 300-second speedrun.

@@AQDuck Lmaoo. Tbh, I just got SMM2 and although I haven't really touched it yet I think my first level is going to be an actually 300 second speedrun. I won't make it as difficult as that guy tho lol. I wouldn't be too paranoid if a level title said "300 second speed run" because like 7/10 it isn't.
@@abstractkvng3446 Good luck with the level! I think one of the biggest pieces of advice I could give is to make sure the player isn't going in blind. No matter how easy or hard the level is, if the player has to start over the entire level because they didn't know what to do, it's going to get annoying quickly. Arrows and spin indicators are your friend here, especially some P block markers to show where you have to jump on and when you should jump on something twice (by adding two of the markers).

The Sonic ‘out -of-air’ timer music has got to be the most stress-inducing bit of music in video game history
It uses the exact same musical logic as the Jaws theme, so that adds up.

It can be pretty cool to see a technical speedrun played in its entirety the way the creator intended without all the deaths and trial and error. It's fairly appropriate to put in a victory reel at the end.
It's also great for difficult music levels.

Same dude. It's the reason I got into ryukahr in the first place. His cuts are nice and the videos are still of good length (almost too long). Nobody wants to see someone do the same level from start to finish over and over again.
Second purpose: scheduling, RUclips lets you watch it on your own time and keeps it up forever rather than having to watch it live or within Twitch's archive period
If you watch the vod of the livestreams, you can hit L to skip ahead like, ten seconds. I do that when there's a lot of donors he's thanking or when he's redoing a super long level.
@@cadencenavigator958 dude, the stopping and thanking donors stuff is like THE reason I don’t use twitch anymore. Actually, I take that back- that’s the 2nd reason. The main reason is the annoying fucking pop ups every time somebody drops 10 cents and gets a glowing icon splashed on half the screen with a paragraph of text read by a robot every 15 seconds when I’m trying to watch a game.
The whole donation pop ups thing just annoys the hell out of me, and then I’ve got to wait like ten minutes in between content watching someone just thank a bunch of people for donating. Depending on the stream or streamer, anywhere from 15-35% of any stream will just be them thanking users for donations or reading their comments out loud.
If I wanted to hear people read comments and thank donors for their donations, I’d watch a fucking telethon lol

Unpopular opinion: This course is actually a masterpiece in design and is only frustrating due to the lack of checkpoints which was obviously excluded due to the timer.
Yup, exactly. I think they should have been included to give casual players a fighting chance, and just for learning the map, as well (while practice doors would allow for the latter, it would have relegated it to unplayable status due to the sheer length and tight timer if you don't do everything pretty quickly, and those wanting to speedrun for the record will start over from the beginning anyways).
It's not a masterpiece at all, blind setups are pretty much the hallmark of jank, hot garbage levels. with 20% more effort and tuning it could have been a cool stage, as it stands, it's hot garbage.
@@FlourescentPotato Except it has no blind setups or jank, though that one shell jump with the link costume is really precise. Absolutely everything is visible before you get to it, or you can pause a moment to see it and understand it.
@Marco because nobody else here is a famous youtuber like Ryu who could make a video about this level and gain some views, subs and money out of it in the process (like Ryu himself pretty much said at the beginning of this video). If you are a normal person you could like this level (I agree saying it's a masterpiece is a bit too much tho), but still you likely won't bring yourself the pain and fatigue to play it for a lot of time just to complete it and get simple satisfaction without a concrete profit to be gained

There's nothing wrong with this level. Ryu just isn't used to long speedruns that you have to grind at for a while and learn. Check out ThaBs old videos from smm1 like 2, 3, or 4 years ago where he grinds and beats amazingly hard and long (500s) new soup speed runs. Its absolutely amazing to see. Much love Ryu and great job beating that! 💜👍
At least you were able to download levels in smm1. Really bad decision to remove that feature in my opinion.
So I watched the episode where Ryu encountered this stage and being watching Ryu's contents for some time now, I knew that he will come back to this sooner or later. What I like about Ryu is that he makes videos to entertain. To make people happy. I seriously cant help to flash a smile everytime I watch a Ryu episode. He's not about beating world records, explaining and bragging each and every moves necessary to beat a level. He's about fun and entertainment. He's here not for himself but for those who watches. I am a meticulous guy. I only have 2 channels on RUclips that I'm subscribed in. I would gladly make Ryu's channel my 3rd. Hats off to this guy.

this level is actually pretty good, hell of a hard level, but pretty good, it feels like an ultra secret level for some mario game that has the "YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER" phrase in the end, congratz on getting the clear ryu!

This is one of those levels where small modifications would make all the difference, such as adding a couple of checkpoints between the main world and sub-world and forgetting all about the timer. Still, impressive job clearing this monstrosity of a level which felt like conquering Mt. Midoriyama from Ninja Warriors, well done! :-)
I feel it is because of the 'no checkpoint' + tight timer that makes this tough challenge so worthwhile to beat. But I do agree each person has their own preferences :)
Ah yes, lets add checkpoints to a SPEEDRUN, completely invalidating the challenge. There isn't anything that should be changed about this level. It's as hard as it is precisely and only because it's 300 seconds long.
@@Distrance my point was actually that it would be fun platforming level with CPs and not a speedrun anymore. Grinding this level over and over again from the beginning made even Ryu call it the worst speedrun ever made and he's played quite many :-)
@@Distrance There's a difference between a level being hard and one being frustrating, and the fact that you have to do the entire 5 minute run every time you die is just frustrating
@@Distrance okay, then it's no longer a speedrun. I would rather a level be no longer a speedrun but be a better level then a level have a lot of good content but also be painfully long with no checkpoints

My girlfriend and I were on the edge of our seats holding our breath there at the end. The simultaneous relief we had when you beat the level was unreal.
7:09 You can see the exact moment Ryu gets distracted and looks off screen just long enough to lose concentration and not notice the thwomp.

If only Ryu knew that the level creator's name was Hamster R :P It's actually a legit amazingly well done level. A checkpoint or two would have made it much more appealing, but also a lot less grueling. Hats off to the Creator and the First Clear!

@Marco But it is a pretty good level, despite being excruciatingly hard. Not perfect, but... far from bad and one of the best long speedrun levels I've seen.
@Marco I played it. And apart from some random jank, it's a pretty good 300s speed run.
The first section is easy, and consistent enough to not be a pain, the Zelda boot jump is what I thought was the worst, but other than that, pretty decent speed run
@Marco 1. if you can't praise a level unless you've played it why can you speak against a level without playing it? 2. why are you bossing people around telling them when they can and can't have opinions? everyone has opinions and you're not going to stop someone from speaking their mind by being a prick in a comment section.

The one Ryuvenge that stands out for me is Terrible Life Decisions. That level was a monster that lived up to its name.

Ryu can talk all the $hit he wants but his dedication to one episode based on this level shows that the creator was brilliant in making it. Similar to what Kanye proved a long time ago that there is not such thing as negative press. Kudos on the win.

Honestly this level was amazing design-wise, just lacked sweet sweet checkpoints and that made it pure suffering, big praise to ryu for the clear.

@@Planteas I didn’t count the deaths shown on the video. I looked at the total attempts (denominator) on the title screen at the beginning and end of the video.
Those 9 tries may even include other players playing it so Ryu may have died even fewer than 9 times during this Ryuvenge!

I was thinking the same, but I'm pretty sure there's a red coin, and you need the red coins to get in the key door to get to the end of the level. At least I'm pretty sure because I was also confused why Ryu didn't just go into the pipe instead of the p door. That's the only reason I could think of.

Lol, no it's not. Quite the opposite: it's a torturous troll level and even for the Best player, those are designed to be unfair with set-ups and branched routes you cannot pre-predict.
Ryu is far too nice, I dunno why he gives any of these credit. This is worse than any pick-a-pipe hot garbage. Don't take my word for it; would you like to try this level out for Us while remaining sane?

Honestly, I think this could be an incredible level if it was split up into sections with checkpoints. You could keep the speedrun pressure by starting timers when you use doors or pipes. If you're too slow, bullet blasters or p-blocks block the way forward.
Then maybe put the checkpoints in weird places so you have to go out of your way to get them. That way you can choose between getting the checkpoint - potentially losing a life to time - or ignoring it and trying to finish in one shot.

Level shoulda had donuts to artificially draw out the time, so TAS perfect is exactly 300s :D With no time to spare.

The level's maker is just a waste of time but I feel beating in is Ryu's way of 'spiting' him. There's nothing to be proud of regarding creating a heinous troll level like this, it's just as bad if not actually far worse for you sanity than any of those terrible pick-a-pipe trollvels doing the rounds

@@netweed09 This wasn't a troll level though. Nothing was trolly. It was just a very long speedrun using a ton of tech from a ton of different mechanics. Just because a level is hard, doesn't make it a troll level. Watch CarlSagan's videos, then youll see what actual troll levels are.

I still convinced that the creator had a "dev skip" hidden in that level. There is "no way" he completed this level without some kind of short cut
I dunno man, the whole level seems so carefully planned out and designed and everything is possible I don't think there's a need for a dev exit. The person who made it probably already knows every section inside and out by the time they were done with it.
After the some time later sequence, Ryu looked like he had just mastered the Rinnegan, and was ready for some serious action. And sure enough, our Hero hath conquered such a dastardly foe.
With that key door being right at the beginning, it seems like there could be a dev key in a hidden block nearby.
Iam 99999% sure there is a timer below the visible line that will activate a key somehow :P
But strange that the timer still fits the 300s, so he needed to know that this level is possible
Normally the clear check time would indicate that there is a invisible block with key nearby the door
not even that bad of a level.. flow was pretty good, liked all use of the power ups too, there’s definitely been worse on the channel. love that music for snow levels too

It's actually a good level. The only thing that hurts it in my opinion is the lack of a CP at the subworld
I love watching these videos I can't wait to get this game. I have been playing Mario since the NES. I love to play challenging levels like this, I just recently got the switch and purchased Super Mario World as my first game and I love it! This will make another great addition to the collection! Cant wait !

if Nintendo at some point put a Checkpoint in the future that would save the time you took and continue from there, then I agree, but when you return from Checkpoint the time resets then it is impossible to have a speedrun like that

Well there are so many levels over the years you play that earn my respect and this is certainly one of the top ones. It's right up there with Terrible Life Decision.
